Disgaea D2: A Brighter Darkness |OT|

Where's the best place to powerlevel around level 20ish? I'd like to quickly get up to 40 so I can use the 2-6 powerlevelling spot.

Also, when I make towers I don't always get the option use a Tower Skill. What are the conditions?

I use the 2-6 spot for levelling before use it with the 99 level trick. Fuse monster until you gain good exp.

Someone can explain me how work the dojo with the program that boost aptitude?

Ever since Disgaea 4, I've always bought the DLC with Mao on it. Looks like I'll be doing that again for this title. I just gotta beat the game first so I can actually buy him.

I think you can buy it before finishing the main story. I've bought Fuka and desco and you get both at level 1 from the start.

Etna and Pure Flonne make it oddly easy to clear CoO 6 the first time. Was only level ~350 on Etna/Flonne/Laharl. Though I did need to use some buffs.

Guess I should clear Axel's stage now and then get serious with the item worlding.

As far as clearing CoO6 goes for farming, you can always use buffs and stuff like Lanzarote and Shaman Evilities to manipulate stats. The sharks don't move from their spots unless you get close to them. You can snipe the first set of six from the panels below the Base Panel and the final nine by just staying at least one space away from the water. They have low mobility and low range so it's easy to keep them from ever moving.

Is the current DLC the only stuff we're ever going to get? I was really hoping for a Valvatorez playable character.

He's one of the post-game characters.

Sweet, good to hear.

BTW, what's the platinum time like on this game? I platinumed D4 in about 220 hours, just trying to figure out what to expect with this one. roughly the same?

Do the training bonuses only work for the character who is training them, or for everyone? Like if I'm training the INT Bonus on level up thing, does everyone get the int bonus on level up, or only the people training it?

Yeah, I know about the sharks limited range and non-aggressive AI. I was referring to the first clear (the one with the Zombie King Boss),

it was more of a chore to get the power level required to beat Ordeals / Early to Mid Post Game in D3 / D4.
Though things went faster after that, lack of duplication is making farming statisticians pretty boring. I'm not powerful enough to subdue statisticians on the high ranking items on floors much past 20 so getting high value Statisticians is patience testing. I'm in the awkward phase where its still a pain to level up / increase weapon mastery / skills but you can't level up high rank items without a relatively powerful Fist user to move the Anchor Guardians. Once I get a maxed sparring partner, trainer and a couple of 300 statisticians I'll gain momentum again and things will go pretty smoothly until its time to really farm LoC stats.

You should only need one 300 stat, since putting more on a character won't do anything.

If you're not strong enough to kill things in item world, then just use the first two fist skills to move the guardians. They could be level one and still get the job done. Using a female brawler with the evility that dodges counters is probably best since skills can be countered now.

The guide is basically completely wrong about XP.Despite what the guide says XP pretty much works the same in this game as in D3/D4.

So its wrong about Statisticians (Brokers , Managers and Statisticians are the only innocents have a higher effective cap than the max cap for a single innocent type, other than the basic single and dual stat boosting innocents who don't have total caps). The XP modifier stacks up to 4900 (which is a 50 x multiplier) , though you'll hit 9999 in one clear of LoC CoO 6 boosted enough for the sharks to be 9999 with a total modifier less than that. The modifier takes into account +XP panels, and the cheat shop modifier as well.

The XP formula is wrong too, XP is definitely based on enemy level and XP to next level, not yours.

I wasn't going off of the guide. I tried it myself when I finished building one stat since the game automatically spits out extras if you combine and go over. Two fresh units gained the same exp despite one having more stat than the other.

But it'd be nice to be wrong, though I wouldn't go out of my way to build stats now.

Hmm, that's not what Gamefaqs and a lot of Japanese level up video's say. And there definitely is something going on , because a total of 28* times the experience of the 15 sharks in LoC CoO6 at lvl 9999 isn't enough to take you from 1 to 9999 in one clear and there are youtube videos of that. There's also people on Gamefaqs claiming to have the Cheat shop set at ~550 and clearing 9999 in one clear, with extra statisticians but if statisticians cap at 300, then that would drop their actual multiplier to merely 19 (http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/687861-disgaea-d2-a-brighter-darkness/67483306 , though I now notice the second person isn't using the 9999 sharks which messes up the XP value)
Maybe LoC or Rasetsu mode changes the cap on statisticians ? Time for me to go and try to decipher Japanese wiki's again. Fun.

Thanks for the headsup , this is definitely something I need to check out. Hmm. Could you try with managers and see if you get the same amount of mana with 1 * 300 Managers and 2 * 300 ? Brokers should work too.

*(3 (stat) + 1 (geo panels) + 10 (cheat shop)) *2 (LoC Base Adj) = 28

I think LoC or Rasetsu changing it is a likely explanation. I had both off when I tried.

If I had some extra managers or brokers built up I could test, but I don't think I have even one complete set yet. Maybe someone else can pop in and test it. With November here, for me this game is likely on hold until Prier drops.

Is this game better than Disgaea 4? (Note - I really loved it)

I'm kind of tempted to jump onto D2 but I'm worried I might have burnt myself out on the formula just a smidge, and story-wise I can't say that I enjoyed the atmosphere in the original Disgaea as much as it's follow-ups.

It depends on what you liked about D4.

The mechanics are actually somewhat different to D3 / D4 being something of a blend of the D1/D2 mechanics with D3 / D4 , as well as some refinements. Weapon Mastery is back , and you gain weapon skills by using weapons rather than buying them with mana (all humans can use all weapons but they learn skills with them at different rates) , Weapon Mastery also multiplies weapon stats (like Cane fighters and such did in D3/ D4).

A lot of the RNG-necessitated resetting is done, the need to reset to avoid needing to start an item completely over is gone, and the heavily RNG dependent stuff (like Duping) is gone or toned down a lot. I've only had to reset-fest once as a "time-saving" measure (subduing innocents on Floor 96+ and not wanting to have to make a complete second trip through the item).

I'm at the point where I can do LoC (0 strength) CoO 6 and start accumulating stats from those kills. Think I'll call it quits here, not much urge to grind out the rest.

Overall this iteration was ok but I think it was a step backward. Gained some good systems but lost some interesting ones as well. Mounted monsters are too limited I think - no team attacks, losing too many skills and having a single mounted ability sucks. Would have been nice to keep the monster and human skills both available.

Ultimately, Mount as a mechanic seems to exist almost entirely for the AI to utilize, not really for the player. I mean, yes, there's some good uses for it but it's really not as useful for you as it is for them.

That was true for Magichange as well since the AI got unlimited duration. And the stats on LoC Magichange weapons were stupidly high.

There's only a few uses I've found:

Experience Grinding (since both get full XP and unlock towers you can still use spells + Sea Angels mounted attack is the right shape to take out the first 6 sharks on CoO6 safely)
Protection (the way the AI usually works if they kill the mount they won't then target the rider unless there's another unit still in the AoE that they were hitting).
Transport (A fast monster with good movement equipment can really help out characters like Mages / Armor Knights who don't want to spend slots on shoes and have terrible movement)

For me, the only step back is the mounted system. All rhe other thing are improved from the previous game

Finally bought this! :D

Are there any good tips for the new systems in this game that don't turn into "Here's my best way to hit 9999?", I like to find my own way of playing without following a set course in Disgaea games.

Also do we have a full list of cheat shop unlocks yet? I can find the first two pages, but not page 3 or 4.

Also, I didn't realise how much I loved Geo Blocks instead of Geo Panels. Having your route blocked off by panels is actually sort of irritating on small maps. Yeah, you can throw and smash the blocks but still... XD I just remembered why I always make a moth with lots of movement-increasing slippers.

Disgaea 4 at least tied Magichange to grinding. And then there were the silly things you could do with PPS'd Magichange Weapons, though I suppose that's kind of cheating on counting that as a Magichange bonus :x

Experience Grinding (since both get full XP and unlock towers you can still use spells + Sea Angels mounted attack is the right shape to take out the first 6 sharks on CoO6 safely)

Just to note, Statisticians don't apply to both characters. They get the same base EXP but you'll need Statistician stacks for both of them.

I just checked Statisticians myself btw.

300 Levels of Statisticians with Cheat Shop at 250% Exp no LoC/Rasetsu: Clearing CoO6 5 stars with Level 873 Flonne gets Level 999 Flonne.

348 levels of Statisticisns with Cheat Shop at 250% Exp no LoC/Rasetsu: Clearing CoO6 5 stars with Level 873 Flonne gets Level 1010 Flonne.

So Statisticians don't cap at 300. I reset between the clears and did everything the same, made sure there was no XP on the bonus gauge as control as well. That was on normal.

Statiticians cap at 300, but you can have multiple 300 statiticians inside and the add the % bonus on exp.

I felt dirty for getting Disgaea 4 because they were still using the same cumbersome interface and mechanics for a lot of things since the 1st game. For instance, Residents; why isn't there a bank for that?

Have they fixed things like that in this game? Is organizing and creating teams still like pulling teeth?

There is a Residents warehouse now :)

Question:

Say I have 2 statisticians, one at 158 and one at 200. If I combine, will it make one at 300 and one at 58, or will it make one at 358?

You get 300+58 by combining 158 & 200... If both are subdued

but by combining a subdued 158 with an unsubdued 200 you'll get an unsubdued 279

Okay cool, I was just wondering in case I piled all my stuff into the warehouse for innocents and did Combine and made a bunch of overpowered ones that couldn't maximise their effectiveness. If it automatically stops them from breaking caps and overflows into other specialists then I'm happy :)

There is still some loss potential by combining everything , since you don't get overflow from subduing only combining.

Essentially when you're combining a subdued innocent with an unsubdued one you want to keep the total level as low as possible while still hitting the cap. (eg a Level 38 Unsubdued Innocent killed on an Innocent Panel on Floor 96+ on Innocent Route will hit level 300 , so any extra levels than that are wasted if its a Statistician/Broker/Manager/Trainer, if you don't want to save scum & geo change for an inncoent panel , you'd want a level 77 Unsubdued Innocent instead).

I know. That post was a reply to the previous discussion Master Milk and I were having , since I only had time to get enough Statisticians to test it out today.

They stack to an additive +4900% with Evilities. Cheat Shop (and GeoEffects) are separate from this.

The full roster is still annoying but you can make dispatch teams. I never actually did anything with that, however, so nothing I can add on that :x

I hope they have Androids as DLC or in future games, they're my favorite generic unit.

D4 is my favorite Disgaea game still, but I'm still very early into D2, I like Flonne/Etna/Laharl interactions, always funny.

What's the best way to grind weapon mastery? Seems like it will take forever to get the weapons up into the 20s or 30s which is required for some of the final weapon skills

1) obtain Sparring Partner innocent at level 1900
2) steal the fighter evilty that let you counter for every attack it get for the character you want to level up the weapon mastery
3) reincarnate the fighter so he will have again that evilty
4) go inside the level 7-3 (if i remember correctly) and kill every enemy except for the one inside the red zone
5) go with your character with sparring partner inside in the azure zone (reverse damage) and attack your fighter. You'll see a long run of counter and the level mastery will improve in no time
6) repeat until you get 255 level mastery with that weapon

There a video in youtube if you have problem with my description

Agree, I really liked Valvatorez and Fenrich, and I thought the characters overall were just better. Laharl is a little annoying, and the characters overall don't seem to have the same charm as they did in D4.

For the
Baal
fight, would this work?

- at least one Succubus with Punishment (25% damage taken from male enemy units is inflicted onto attacker) and the male fighter's Fortitude (Always have 1 HP after receiving an attack at max HP)

- a bunch of Alraunes with fortitude and Detox Aroma (Recover 15% HP and cure ailments for each unit within 2 panels at end of turn) and the 25% one for those after the first two so you don't need as many units.

Use the cosplay cat ears to get the units out of the base.

Stand there and just repeatedly end turn as the boss kills himself against the reflect damage and your units heal back to full every turn.

Just wondering if anyone's tried this out to see if there's a hole in this strategy. (I don't have the cat ears yet so I can't try it out myself)

It won't work because he is apparently genderless as far as game mechanics go (which is why the other evilities affecting male/female units won't work).

I'm up to the point where I can grind CoO 6 for powerlevelling. My highest guy is about 575, then I also have a 450 and everyone else is around Lv. 300.

What's the best progression path from here? I'd like to get Big Bang to make it easier for some of my melee characters to grind exp, but I'm not even remotely close to level 1900 to do the trick with Sparring Partner Innocent suggested above.

As of now, never been to the Item World outside of the story part, and never re-incarnated.

You don't even need Sparring Partner- just half an hour to compensate for the lack thereof.

The way I did it was running 7-3 with as prescribed above and then pit my female fighter (with the 2x counter evility) against my male fighter (with the forced counter evility). In the end, the female fighter hit 21 fist mastery while the male was only about 14 (they both started at level 1 when I began the process). Took some 60 turns of both using regular attacks on each other, if I recall.

Granted, I COULD've and should've used Sparring Partner or the WM D. Dojo. But, it's still possible with the barebones setup.

An innocents effect level and class level are separate. You don't need to be Level 1900 to get a Level 1900 Sparring Partner.

bumping this thread.

already got a level 7300 laharl, at pringer x and darkdeath bosses.

just farming those pringy suits. levelling in the 7k takes a bit longer now, even with 500 exp from the cheat shop, and 400 statisticians.

Woo, just got a patch for this. This is my first Disgaea and I'm starting to get into it but there was a common bug I was getting where Laharl's HP would be reset to 1 after a stage that had been annoying me. That's fixed now along with half a dozen other things that mean nothing to me at this point, it'll show you a changelog when you install it.

Cool! I loved the game, but it did have some annoying bugs. There were a few special moves I never could use, because the system froze up any time I tried. Hopefully that's fixed. Also had the Laharl 1hp bug.

This is the first Disgaea I've ever gotten into and I adore it although I know based on skimming this thread that I'm likely missing a lot of it or doing stuff wrong or at least not optimally. There are people here who finished it in 11 and 19 hours - I hit the final boss last night at 48 and got flattened :) I learned once again that I really need to check a dude's evility before I go all in.

It's fun though, and I think I know what to do although it'll take a fair bit of Item World grinding to get there. I'm just abusing the tower attack for the characters I want to level and having some others round up the enemies and throw them on top of one another for maximum XP gain, it's the quickest method I've found for now.

My big question now is I have Disgaea 3 on the Vita which I'm looking forward to after this as it looks like a great fit for the commute, what are the big system and mechanical differences I'm going to need to get used to coming from this one? I was talking to a friend on Twitter about D2 recently and he seemed surprised that I was so into it and was of the opinion Disgaea fans had received it poorly for some reason, not sure how much basis in truth that has.

After playing all the Disgaeas, I found D2 the most agreeable in mechanics once you go shoulder-deep into the game (read: least amount of resets needed to get the best results).

That said, D3 and D4 are still good in their own right, D4 probably being an overall improvement on D3.

As far as D3 is concerned, get ready for Puppy Pawstick item duping, STRONG skill damage multipliers, and bloody Chara World.
