Dishonored 2 |OT| The Edge of the World

Damn, it's too late.

I'm already headed towards Chapter 5...

Well there's always another playthrough.

We really need chapter select though.

I'm still at low chaos but now I feel bad I could have saved them.

I restarted the entire chapter because of it, totally worth it.

Finished the game; I think I liked it a lot more than Dishonored one- the AI being a lot more sensitive was annoying early but when you start getting enough runes to reach godhood they kind of need it to even remotely stand a chance against you (and that's as Emily- if Bend Time is half as good as the first game, the AI seeing through walls wouldn't be enough). None of the levels felt like a slog like, say, the Flooded District, and Crack in the Slab/Clockwork Mansion probably beat Brigmore Witches/Last Party for me.

If I had a complaint though, there's a lack of new enemy types and gadgets-
Bloodflies and Clockwork Soldiers on one side, Howling Bolts on the other, right? If you played the DLC for 1, at least.
And where the hell was Strong Arms?! Probably waiting as the first charm in High Chaos.

I feel super dumb that I didn't solve that first safe combination on my first time through Edge of the World lol. Kinda neat little first puzzle I guess.

There's no non lethal solution to The Crown Killer is there?

I tried to subdue them but it didn't work. I wondered if a sleep dart would work but I think their death needs to be implemented, correct?
There is. Go to Recuperation and look for the guy who looks like Snake from the beginning of Phantom Pain.

Additionally, with some quicksave abuse (to get a safe combination) you can prepare all the steps of the non-lethal approach in advance and execute it before the killer turns hostile.

The non-lethal Hypatia route has bugged every time for me with the journal location indicator.

Easy to get around the second time, but first time through it can throw you off.
In the area with Hamilton
for those curious.

Any final word on PS4 Pro improvements?

I've read anecdotal things like improved frame-rate, but do we have hard numbers on resolution and/or performance?

Just finished it on high chaos. I chose
to save Corvo
at the end, however when I went back (via a reloaded save) I couldn't find a route to the
throne's position marker
.

Really good game overall. Mission seven was a bit of a pain and a slog, but had cool time mechanics that made up for it. It took me a while to find a way through into the locked area.

Mission 8 was the best, though.

This is definitely a GOTY and GOTG contender. It's a very good follow-up to another very good game.

Question, though, for those who chose Corvo:

If I were to play as Corvo, would the story be different in that Emily is imprisoned instead? Is that how it works?

Yes.

Emily's far reach ability is seriously shit. It's flakey, unreliable, and has a mind of its own. It will inexplicably do things for you one time and refuse to do it another. It will sometimes launch you to where it grabbed and sometimes fling you. It will decide to auto aim your grab in the most idiotic place.

Fuck this shitty mechanic. It has so much potential, but it's ruined by it's auto aim "feature."

It looks like patch is going to come pretty soon. It been released to the press, and while PC Gamer didn't go into details, they said it has encouraging results.

I think input lag is playing a part too. Blink with Corvo is a chore because it takes me like 2 mins to line up my shot because the arrows aren't showing up.

Game is so fucking good. Honestly debating whether to buy a PS4 pro and a KS8000 TV to go with it, or just a monster PC (GTX 1080, i7 6700 4.0, 16 GB DDR4, etc) and just playing the game on Ultra at like 90FPS on my 1080p TV for now.

Then again, I'd have to rebuy Dishonored 2 and every other game I currently desire to play in higher fidelity/frame rate for my PC so the decision isn't easy. Also, always been a console guy and prefer couch and controller.

So I was playing the game on PS4 and jumped off a boat into the water and the game froze then crashed. I started up the game again but the game is running incredibly slow now. Like the splash screen are slow and choppy and since you can't skip any of them I basically can't play the game. Well done, Arkane.

I deleted the contents of the game of my system and redownloading it again to see if it fixes that.

Beginning to really dislike this game.
Mission 7, you get the time changer and first have to realize the door is actually in different spots in the two times (absolutely stupid). Then you have to explore the mansion to find a key that is just hanging out on a stool. Don't have to make sure to go to a special area or kill an important noc, just need to check a random stool and there's no indication that this is what you need to do.

yeah I also think some levels are better optimized to utilise far reach. Some levels are so multi layered that it wigs out and doesn't know what to choose.

On next to last mission I think.

Mission 8 with the
party mansion
is pretty damn sweet. Almost done with it. The mission before with the
time travel
stuff wasn;t too bad either mind you.

Game has had some ups and downs for me, although I think a lot of the bads are on my shoulders for trying to be as stealthy as possible and doing no kills. However, there are a lot stronger areas as opposed to weaker ones in the game, but I do miss some of DS'1 stage design, like Lady Boyle's party.

Hope to have the whole game completed tomorrow night. I would launch into a new game plus run, but I guess that's something Arkane is working on right? Crazy they didn't launch with it.
Yeah now my save data is corrupted.
Woof, that sucks dude. :(

Lol in chapter 4,
I am robbing the black market store again, and the shopkeeper got caught in the blast this time. Kind of feel bad, but least I didn't encounter that in my no-kill run heh. Also went to "kill" Paolo for that achievement when he left the store and went into a alley.

Are the graphics hella glitchy on OG PS4 for anybody else? Seems like I run into a spastic/flickering texture or a white seam between polygons every 10 seconds. Not happening with any other game on my machine and it just feels extremely unfinished. I'm enjoying playing the game nonetheless.

Not all the time, but I notice it too. I like the game but I have the issue where I had with the first one. I like to get the best ending in games I play first and in this series you have to go the non-lethal route. Too bad non-lethal isn't really fun, not as bad as the first one but it's still limited compared to lethal. Fighting still needs to be avoided since knocking out a person risks you getting hurt from other enemies if you're fighting more than one. You could be creative and take them out with powers or items on the fly but I'm not that fast, especially when I play a game the first time.
I feel this is a game that's more enjoyable from repeated play once you don't give a damn about the story. But when when it comes to first impressions, getting the good ending is a tough pill to swallow.

Mission 7 impressed me even more than I expected. Spent 4 hours in there. I've been thoroughly enjoying the entire game but that mission is the highlight of the game for me so far.

I just beat this level tonight and don't recall ever getting a key in this? I had to get the combination and enter it.

The door isnt in two spots? You're moving between the door in the past and debris in the present. Theres a conversation that plays right you enter the past that tells you the guests of Stilton are in a room that requires a code, Stilton keeps the code in his journal, and that Stilton is out back in the garden.

I just wrapped up this mission and thought it was one of the best in the game personally, especially
how you can completely change the present by knocking out Stilton and preventing him from making it to the seance.

Yep, running into this all the time. Flickering textures, lighting, shadows and a lot of polygonal/texture seams and pixel "dotting"/crawling. Game is awesome but those technical glitches bring the polished feeling down quite a bit. I assume it's because they've slapped a moderately advanced lighting engine on top of the shitty idTech5 engine.

Yes, it can get quite bad. Mission 5 there is spots inside the Conservatory where, if I were playing on PC, I'd be concerned with my gpu dying. There were lines of different colored dots constantly popping up. I had started saving videos to splice together to ask on this thread if others were experiencing everything you listed.

I'm on mission 6 right now, inside a building when I prep far reach the graphic is completely missing. So yea, this game is a technical mess and no I'm not gonna blame that on the engine used, this is just sloppy.

Exploring Karnaca (no powers/no alarms/no kills) in Mission 2 last night. The first open area on the other side of the Wall of Light
via the Blood Fly infested building
had me totally stumped.

Once again, a more aggressive stealth approach (i.e. walking straight out down the path of least resistance) worked and the level's complexities began to unfurl before me. Brilliant stuff. Managed to get
the body out
in one go, once I'd worked out how to get to the
Overseer
building without getting spotted or killing anyone.
Rooftops aren't just for superpowered assassins

Really impressed with this so far.

90 metacritic score now from 35 reviews. Come on patch so I can continue my play through.

I'm playing on PC. Reviews are from PS4.

Eurogamer also gave it their gold 'essential' seal of approval. Very impressive reviews overall. The two more critical reviews I've seen were ACG and Kotaku, neither of whom do
scored reviews, but they also had a lot of good things to say about the game (and the technical issues definitely deserve mention).

I ended up crashing again earlier while I was exploring chapter 3 via Corvo, where I guess the game thought me sprinting up the main stair area was too much.

Also regarding that chapter,
lol at causing the elevator to crash down to the basement area.

Non-lethal melee, apparently you can do this, but how?

Is it just grabbing them in a choke hold during combat and putting them to sleep?

How did you manage not to get spot by civilians
when dragging the body
? I couldn't avoid that once I reached that small marketplace.

That one of the takedowns yes, but there also a fast kick takedown when they are on the floor and trying to get up (you can throw them rather than chokehold for this, or even shoot them in the leg with bolt/bullets), and a fast slide takedown that you well, slide right at them to give way for that.

I found that going on the left hand side of the road as you enter, rather than the side with the entrance to
Mindy
, helped a ton. I hid near a pillar and kept that between me and the musicians as I walked very slowly across and hopped down the stairs.

Shit, didn't think about that path... Thanks.
After too much stealth I wanted to rush towards the end of the side mission, had enough. It's all about trial and error, which means, F5-F9 keys getting consumed, and it gets frustrating sometimes.

Here's a list of some stuff you can do for non lethal (cross posting a post of mine):

-Domino knockouts
-far reach pulling people + knockout
-strength buff allows knocking people out by throwing objects at them
-ether bottles putting people and bloodflies asleep
-Sliding moves
-parry and/or throat jabs and grabs
-aerial non-lethal takedowns
-kicking their face when down
-grabbing others and launching them at others
-Doppelganger + other power trickery
-Shooting limbs to slow down or make people trip
-Howler darts
-stun mines
-Mesmerize power panic inducing/memory loss
-shadow crawl knockouts
-possessions
-and more

Thanks for that. Do they require upgrades to perform them?

Anything power related you upgrade through runes. Not all require upgrades for non lethal. It's specified in the menus (shadow crawl for example immediately lets you knockout people, but far reach's people grab requires a 4 rune upgrade cost).

Some weapon options are blueprint upgrades (howler bolts).

Basically if you put in the effort to help people and find runes/bonecharms you will get rewarded in your playstyle. It's all very organic and paced brilliantly.

Yeah some of them. Another one not mentioned there is you can simply throw regular bottles (and presumably other stuff like fish or body parts) at people's heads in this one to knock them out. For some reason it's pretty inconsistent even with the strength upgrade though. Looking back I'm wondering if the size of the object matters, I know it doesn't work with bodies.

It was already on the list. ;)

Some small objects won't work I dont think. they still stun though.

Stun mines are insane for non-lethal with upgrades, I've taken out like 10 people with one.

I'm not experiencing graphical problems, just the occasional performance problem. Haven't experienced what you are mentioning.

If you are playing the PS4 version, and don't see stuff like the below then, and I don t mean to be rude, you are blind. Video is just a small sample of graphical glitches I've encountered. Textures flickering and glitches on texture seams show up at least through the first six missions. The rainbow dots I noticed only in mission five so far that I remember.

https://youtu.be/u38UcFN1Jb4

This does not happen in any other game I've played on my PS4 this year. At least to this degree to where I'm constantly seeing it, only this game.

PC here. Never encountered that (on mission 8). That looks very distracting. Trust me I'm very sensitive to this stuff.

The only graphical glitch I have experienced is an occasional texture stream failure where a texture is stuck or refuses to load. The game has been 99% incredible looking for me.

Dat variable framerate tho.

sertopico

On the PC version I had only some flashing textures here and there for a second but nothing more than that. What I don't like is the quality of the landscape, which is pretty low res unfortunately. Just have a look to the city from the Sanatorium to realize what I mean... Besides, when moving the camera, those distant objects start to flicker, and that doesn't look good.

Seems like low chaos runs are boring...
Is it just because you want the good ending or it's actually fun ?

Wish this would stop. They aren't boring at all. They are intense and filled with options. Lots of non lethal options.

People are just playing either in a boring fashion or are playing on too low of a difficulty to challenge their skills/wits.

A less violent playthrough positively affects people you are in relationships with and the city at large. It affects narrative streams and some outcomes.

Both playstyle are rewarded and super enjoyable/flexible.

It's more challenging, which in a lot of stealth games means it's more fun.
It's also more interesting than in the first game because Emily has a bunch of powers that are actually useful for low chaos.

While it is incredibly satisfying to watch Emily tear through an entire platoon of guards, it's even more fun taking them all down without them knowing I was there in the first place, or at the very least, not knowing where I am.

---

I love Domino so much. So damn cool and useful. Not sure where I want to spend my runes on next, though... Bonecharm crafting, Far Reach upgrades (aiming for that final upgrade), or trying out Mesmerize... Any suggestions?

I never unlocked domino, and really should have. It sounds awesome.

I only ever really used Emily's teleport variation. But I also had the see through walls and disorient enemies with a clone powers unlocked. That one never seemed to want to work, though -- the last one.
