Dishonored - PC performance thread

I am thinking of getting this game... would i be better off getting on ps3, or on an i7, but with an Radeon HD 5750? It's a pretty old and crummy card.. (not as old as the ps3, I'll admit :) ).

The 5750 would certainly allow you to run it with better settings than the PS3 still. That card, as old and mid-range as it was, still beats the crap out of a PS3 and UE3 is so optimized on PC that only a shitty port wouldn't allow any multi-plat games to run better on it.

Not sure whether to buy the PC or PS3 version.

I have a piece of shit laptop with i5 460M & GTX 460M, will it run better than my PS3?

Probably yes.

I don't know about Dishonored to be honest, but ALL multiplat games I have on PC are running much better on my laptop (i7 Q740 -which is a tiny bit better than yours, but not incredibly so for games that don't have heavey Quad-Core optimisation- and GTX 445M -which is a good 40 % less powerfull than your 460M) than consoles. Again, on a strictly technical point of view, 460m smokes the PS3.

All depends on the settings you choose of course, but in most cases, you should achieve a much better IQ than PS3 if you aim for 30FPS average.

I will have a laugh tonight and try this on my GTS8800 - I really need to upgrade..

Should run just fine. :)

Dark green means : runs perfect on max details@1080p with FXAA.

1440p downsampling vs SGSSAA 4x

I slightly prefere downsampling, is a little bit sharper and performances are fairly better.

Any thought?

Thanks, getting the PC version then :)

I've tried 3 different bits from this topic and any havent worked for me. I'm on 306.02 driver, any clue why?

I've used 1.5x1.5 OGSSAA + SMAA, but it still flickers on distant geometry ;\ Some results

Quite pleasantly surprised with how well this game runs. I'm getting 40+ FPS with 4x SGSSAA and a few additional ini tweaks on a 460. I can run most games quite well on a 460 but it can start to creak a bit once I go above 2x SGSSAA in certain titles. This game handles it beautifully.

I love the game's look as well. The textures don't bother me at all because they give the game a sort of painterly quality that works with the lighting and general artwork to make the image striking and coherent.

2xSGSSAA and 2880x1620. Still get 60fps, too.

See this was what I was planning to do, have a mix of both. Any idea what your gpu-usage is at? I'm thinking that 1 670 might not be enough for heavy downsampling and 4x sgssaa.

No clue about the load, but it's not enough for me. I dipped below 60fps at 2560x1440 with 4xSGSSAA.

Can You test SGSSAA without closing the game? I dont really know why its not working, i had same issue with Skyrim that it didnt accept my nvidia inspector AA override with TMSAA and i'm eager to change drivers just to test this.

Have you tried making a specific profile for Dishonored instead of using a global profile?

Ok, it worked when i used Dishonored profile in nvidia inspector [when i pressed 'd' in search it wasnt showing lol], and used dishonored.exe, instead of steam launcher.
4xSGSSAA is so blurred compared to OGSSAA + SMAA, i'll try OGSSAA + 2xSGSSAA, will see.

I had it as none, exactly like this

Thats gonna fuck up every other none UE3 game and 3D application you have.

On Topic
Looks like my Golden GTX570 can only comfortably handle 2xSGSSAA.
Might put SMAA on top, but for now i guess it will have to do.

4XSGSSAA give me 60 in most sections, but action and some areas i drop to the low 50s, i could probably get 60 locked if i overclocked some more but summer is here and I aint comfortable going much higher.

Game has a really small footprint though, 700-800mbs Ram, 900-100mb VRam.

This is with the 4040C1 bits....I will try the 0C1 bits later, right now i need sleep.

Agreed on all points.

Oh come on, i'm not that stupid :)

Are you sure you're setting the LOD bias?

Yes, its still blurrier than just OGSSAA + SMAA with sharpening.
I've think i found perfect AA for me:
1.25x1.25 OGSSAA + 2xSGSSAA + sharpening shader from SweetFX :D

I've made some comparisons

Everyshot here was made with 2xSGSSAA
Sharpening shader is from SweetFX

1280x1024 so no OGSSAA

Comparison between 1.5x1.5 OGSSAA + SMAA vs 1.25 OGSSAA and 2xSGSSAA

1.25x OGSSAA and 2SGSSAA (-1.0 lod)

1.25x OGSSAA and 2SGSSAA + sharpen (-1.0 lod)

1.5x OGSSAA + SMAA + sharpen

Ps. Cost of sharpening shader can be quite high, even 12%, but its still better solution for me than 4xSGSSAA obviously

Getting anywhere from 60 - 130 FPS

7850 2GB, i7 920 @ 3.8 Ghz, etc

I don't like either MLAA or FXAA, there's still jaggies on the crossbow.. owell

Anyone else getting some random flickering in game?

It's not constant and only occurs for a split second, but I do notice it.

I have an AMD HD 7950.

So ehm... i never used Inspector before, i set it up like Subterfuge (last page) and now i just.. close it down? It's gonna fire up once i start the game or should it appear in the tray? Cause i don't see any icon there.

I can't get the FOV ini tweak to work. It seems stuck at 85 in-game and it's making me pretty nauseated.

Edit: Nevermind, I ended up doing this: m_PCBindings=(Name="F4",Command="FOV 100")

Where the heck is boob physics and all his mind-boggling ini tweaks.

Still banned.
Also, its an Unreal game so all the usual Unreal tweaks still work, just look at Borderlands 2 ini tweaks and there is a 90% chance they will work here too.

I had to do the same in Bioshock, wouldn't accept a mere fov-change so I had to bind it to an input and press the damn button every time.

And where should i type that? :P
I too get nauseated with this FOV, can't play the game.

%USERDIR%\Documents\my games\Dishonored\DishonoredGame\Config

Open DishonoredInput.ini

Add "m_PCBindings=(Name="F4",Command="FOV 100")" after this line "m_PCBindings=(Name="Zero",Command="GBA_Shortcut_9 ")".

Launch your game and press F4.

Hoping the game gets an EMB mod. The base colors are too muted for my tastes. I don't want them to go completely wild, but a little punch would do wonders.
