Disney Shifts MCU Schedule (Again) - Black Widow on July 9th on Disney+ Premier Access and Theaters

Am I crazy or did they say this would "never" happen with Black Widow?

Trades cited "insiders" claiming it wouldn't happen.

But Disney has been talking about it since a year ago when the pandemic began. It's the whole reason they came up with Premier Access because Black Widow was the first of their movies delayed due to the pandemic (Onward released in theaters and was then pulled, Black Widow was the next release and didn't hit theaters).

I'm really just interested in how well it does financially. This will test how theaters are going to fare in the future, and how replaceable they truly are. This will also test if as many people still care about Marvel as they did before.

Marvel doesn't have a new Iron Man yet, so I think they'll hang out at Ant-Man levels for several years until a new main cast starts to emerge, with charismatic actors people just have to see. I guess Doctor 2 is next year? I'll catch up before that one comes out and watch these cheaply next year.

I hate this crap about the extra fee. haven't paid it for a movie before but I will probably buy this one. I'm part of the problem I know but this looks super fun.

Can you explain what you hate about it? You are getting to see a day 1 AAA blockbuster release from home. If you don’t want to pay the admission fee you can just wait like you would a normal movie for it to eventually arrive for free streaming.

It costs more than $30 for my wife and I to see a movie in a (good) theater opening weekend. A family of 4 is even more than that.

It is like triple price for anyone single. 50% price hike for a couple where I live. I think tickets are usually around $10 here normally, and you get the experience of the giant screen and are supporting the local economy in your town a bit.

I don't like their pricing model either. Pay more for less, and Disney gets it all with less cost sharing. Seems unfair to me.

Well for one, I love be going to the theatre. I want that to keep going afterwards. The next is that I don't like the idea of upsells in a streaming service. It is a slippery slope I think.

I don't disagree with your points though at all. Just not something I like.

Shang-Chi shifts to September 3rd.

Eternals remains on November 5, and Spider-Man: No Way Home stays on December 17th

I know I’m rationalizing but $29 for unlimited views is a great deal compared to the theater where that doesn’t even cover the cost of two imax tickets and popcorn for one show.

Is it really that great of a deal when you consider that with an HBO Max sub you can watch 4 hours of zaddy kino for no extra fee?

If you are like most families chances are you are probably spending money on concessions and gas as well as on dinner after the movie. All of that money was going to different people. Theater people get a cut, restaurant gets a cut, everyone the restaurant employs like the servers and dishwashers get a cut, etc. You buying a movie ticket was a chain event that fed money into the economy in a variety of ways.

But when you stay home and spend $30 plus $15/mo or whatever, you are probably spending the same amount of money, but instead of it getting spread out, it is all going to one place.

I suppose it's good for the customer (maybe going out was more fun/valuable an experience for your family?) but this can't be good for the greater society. The only real winner is the Mouse.

No around here it's $12 just for a matinee ticket. If you want something like IMAX or Dolby Cinema then it's closer to $20 a ticket. That's BEFORE concessions.

It's just an option.. if the price is unfair, don't buy it?

People will buy it because they value being able to watch something at home. It's Disney's product to sell afterall.

When people speculate stuff like this will end Theatres I just laugh.

Going to the cinema will be around for a long long time. It's a social event. It's not replaceable by sitting at home.

Hell in Ireland people sometimes go just for the food. Over the last year me am my mates have went to the cinema atleast 5 or 6 times and that's with there being lock downs for months at a time.

Streaming movies will have a place for sure but it won't kill cinema.

I honestly never quite understood it as a social thing, since you sit in a dark room and aren't supposed to talk for 2 hours lol

Have you ever been to a major premier? People laugh, scream, cheer and everything. It’s an experience with the right crowd.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.

Where I'm at, every movie theater in 100 mile radius of where I live is now shut down. There were a few that stayed open for a few months after the pandemic hit, doing private (literally "private" in every sense of the word as only one person at a time was allowed in the theater legally) showings on weekends only. Now, everything is shuttered and the buildings are all for sale. "At home" theater experiences didn't kill movie theaters, stay at home orders and government regulated crowd sizes did. Even among everyone I know that's a huge movie fan - nobody is itching to return to theaters, nobody wants to be anywhere near that kind of proximity to other people.

I have; didn't really think of that.. it can be fun, but getting tickets for a major premiere for a group of friends is pretty tough around here.

Once I get my vaccine I might be able to do theaters. But I'm willing to pay. I've been waiting for this movie a long time.
