DJ Shadow's Entrouducing Still is Revolutionary

No album has managed to match the perfection of Endtroducing. It's a shame that Dj Shadow never made tons of his music; after his car accident that nearly killed him, he realized he would leave his newborn twins with 'nothing much than a bunch of old vinyls' so that's why he attempted to embrace the hyphy sound of hiphop that was emerging at the time hoping to make some money, and it backfired on him horribly.

hipster cred, i heard it first! saw a one paragraph write-up in the source in 96, went out and bought it, proceeded to listen on the bus ride to school everyday for at least a year. inspired my beats, group, life. OP is my friend.

i remember watching the video for Midnight on MTV Amp, what a great show...:_(

side note, when you learn how he made the album, (there was a Keyboard magazine article on it back in the day) it makes the album that much more amazing, he used an MPC 60, 1.5Mb of memory!

Now I realize why Psyence Fiction was so great.

Whatever happened to Unkle? They've basically become alt-rock.
james lavelle ran mo wax, found dj shadow and put out endtroducing, and started unkle as a collaborative and the big project of the label. it was only mildly successful, him and josh had a falling out, and james lavelle after a ton of drugs took it in more of a techno/dance direction with richard file, and after that towards alt-rock. he just trend hops. cool dude tho.

Where did you get that?

...Endtroducing may has been jostling for top spot on my all-time albums list for years. In my mind it's near perfect.
His website innit. Got it framed separately.

I wanted this translucent acetate Unkle poster signed by him:

"DJ Shadow '99. Peace!"

So cool, but it went for over £100. Nope!

Better than Girl Talk?!
Girl Talk is great! I actually even have one of his physical copy of a mix album he made, the one with the house and GT written in fire on the lawn. I have no idea if he has ever attempted 'serious' music, i've only heard his incredibly great party mixes.

This thread is incredible. Orion is my favorite Metallica track and I never EVER made the link between the bass line of Orion being sampled for The Number Song. and hearing the original track that was sampled for Midnight in a perfect World. I will try to find the artist's original album, I want to hear more of his work.

I also recommend IN TUNE AND ON TIME, a dvd recording of a small show Dj Shadow did during the Private Press era. It's very very good and an excellent entry point for people just getting into his music. The dvd has tons of cool extras like a video of him 'a music fight' using his turntables scratching skills and a Live drummer, and an excellent performance of 'Pushing Buttons' with Cut Chemist and another guy (his names escapes me) as they perform live music using samplers, changing and mixing styles. It's amazing stuff.

WATCH THIS: incredible drumming and while dj shadow is scratching:
