Do Names correspond to physical attractiveness?

This is something that I have been wondering about recently. I'm not sure how to quantify it, but at least in my observation, people with a select group of names tend to be consistently physically attractive.

Three of the names that jump to the forefront of my mind are Alyssa, Emily, and Hannah. I have met a lot of women with these names, and almost all of them that I have known personally have been very physically attractive. It doesn't seem like there should be any correlation, but at least in my observation, it's been so consistent that I can't help but wonder.

Somewhat related to this is the online dating scene. I've been browsing through a few online dating apps, due both to Covid-19 loneliness and trying to take my mind off of some things.. In addition to Alyssa, Emily, and Hannah, many of the women I have stumbled across named Mercedes, Julia, or Nicole have also consistently been quite physically attractive.

On the flipside, there are a few names that seem to go with people who I personally don't find as physically attractive, such as Greta, Myrtle, or Ruth. Obviously, there are many attractive people in this world with many different names, but some names just seem to share a pretty consistent level of attractiveness. Also, I am attracted to women, but to those of you who are into men, have you noticed a similar name/physical attractiveness phenomenon?

Note: this is not meant to say that looks are more important than personality, or anything like that. I'm sure many of us have met someone who was easy to look at, but miserable to be around...

Greta isn't attractive?

I know a good looking Ruth and a rather fat and unattractive looking Julia. If you think a bit about your question, it should be clear that this can only be coincidence. Some names may be associated with a certain social standing, so you might see a mild connection between some visual attributes and names, but that is all.

Maybe you notice something like that since people like to give their children names from within the family, as in, it's common that kids get the names of their relatives. So, if someone attractive was named Helen and she has a daughter or someone in her family has one, there are good chances that both the kid will be attractive and also named Helen. Similarly with unattractive people.

Just a hypothesis.

no because their name doesn't affect their physical appearance. if there's a girl who is smoking hot and has the same name as my 90 year old grandmother then that's not gonna make her any less physically attractive.

that said though a name can be attractive on it's own.

If I were a women, I would actively avoid men who're called <Name><Number>, like Henry VIII or Louis XVI. It's like EA Sports naming scheme but for humans. Same reason I wouldn't bang Elizabeth II.
don't forget people who have the same name as their parents and you need to call them junior + senior.

seriously what is wrong with guys who give their boys the same name? use your fucking brain for a second or two and think of a name that isn't yours.

Yeah, you're right. That's the exact same crap. How does that actually work with the junior and senior thing? If the senior dies, does the junior part of the son then change? Or is that junior part permanent until a new son is born who is named the same?
Isn't this some kind of fucked up curse in a way? Like your dad has no choice but to name you the same so he can get rid of the "junior" moniker and transfer it to you?

Man this whole naming scheme is fucking complicated.

Maybe that's where "the third" comes from. And you don't see much of that today because people eventually break the tradition.

This sounds silly, but if I'm honest I've never met an unattractive Monica in my life. Maybe I just really like the name and focus a lot less on the looks?

Maybe there is a link between a person's name and how they will develop to fit that mold or perception.
There are names that are essentially stripper names so...

You're more likely to remember someone's name if they were attractive. So I guess everyone's going to have a different list of 'hot girl names' based on who we've personally met.

Age has something to do with it I think. Names that were popular a long time ago and not today, I typically associate with old women. Myrtle? Yeah that's an old lady who lives in Boca Raton or someshit and spends her days playing canasta or something.

I have met some people that have made a name unattractive, but I don't think anyone gives their kid a name thinking they will be unattractive because of the name.

In a related question do names affect personality?

A lot of asian girls have old white lady names like Agnes, Eleanor or Fiona.

Not as bad as stripper names, though like Diamond, Crystal or Cinnamon.

My job has me work with the department of corrections quite a bit, and some of the names the inmates have are just so bad. These poor bastards never had a chance. Cursed to a life of failure as soon as they got some of these names.

I think it has to do with the parents. Good looking parents are more likely to give their kids certain names and ugly parents more likely to give their kids certain other names. One thing I know for sure is that I've met a lot of "Jessica"s in my life and they were all hot.
My first crush was called Jessica. I've yet to also meet one that wasn't attractive.
