I think the title says it all. I was thinking of gettng back into one of my MMORPGs and wondered if EQ1 was still thriving or if it kind of died and everyone moved to EQ2/WoW/SWG.
Better go with newer MMORPGs, even if there's EQ players, majority moved on to other mmo games, by the time you would reach an adequate lvl for epic raids, i dont think there would be much life left into EQ's community.
When I quit (early December) my server (Vazaelle) had a high population still but it was a shadow of its former self. Most everybody who had left (like 70-90% of my guild along with them) went to either EQ2 or WoW. Was a shame too...I had just figured out how to play!
I've often wondered about this as well. I've never heard my father complain about not having enough people to raid with. Then again he's been playing for going on five years, so I'm sure he's done quite a bit of networking.
My guess is that the original EQ should keep going at least at average capacity given that a good number of the players are older and as a result aren't really up on abandoning years of 'work' for the sequel. I've often asked my dad if he intends to upgrade and he always jokingly explains that he hasn't beaten the first one.
