Do you ever expect your average 'Gaffer' to fit a profile?

So today is one of the first times I have spent a lot of time in the off-topic discussion part of Neogaf and I'm really wondering if anyone here, as the title says, expects the average Gaffer to be a certain way.

I don't entirely mean do you expect them to be nerdy or bad with women or any other ridiculous stereotypes but more someone's political or social values, age and such. My reason for making this isn't directed at anyone and nor is it due to a negative outlook on the community but I must say I expected Neogaf to be more liberal than my mass-experience of one whole day has shown me, perhaps it's something of an ill thought out assumption that because they like games, shit, they must be like me! It's not that I've ventured into any topics surrounding gay rights, ones which possibly could surprise me. It's not like I assumed a gaming forum to be a hub of middle-class liberal intelligentsia but I find it weird that my completely baseless assumption would be that the forum would be liberal in nature.

What about you guys, did you expect users on Neogaf to fit a profile or were you less naive than I was?

Well, by nature of this being an English-language website, that does limit things to people who are able to converse in English (although we do have a number of people here who are native speakers of other languages. But, at least who have learned English as well).

Also, having access to the internet does generally imply a certain set of living conditions.

Other than that though, I expect pretty much anywhere on the internet to run the full gamut of people.

Given this is a forum for video games, I think it's reasonable to expect a certain level of wealth from the average user here.

That is, enough to be able to afford a console purchase and maybe a few game purchases once in a while.

I'm guessing that there aren't a whole lot of "neckbeard" types. According to Facegaf, the average user is probably male, in their early-to-mid twenties, probably white, and probably has facial hair.

This is true, since that would probably be a step above simply having access to the internet - also having the access and available time (since, even with free games, available time is needed) to play games.

Your all just Jeff and his friends from next door who steal my wi-fi all the time. Come and face me like a man, Jeff!

Haha! I'm not white, in my 20s, or have facial hair!

Wait, fuck. I forgot my age again.
...I'm not white?

Hey you pretty much got me down but... I'm not white. Close enough!

Welcome to OT-Gaf Nathan. Once you're here, you're here forever.

as far as expectations go, GAF is a pretty diverse community, so I always expect that no matter what I say, someone's going to disagree with it. And I'm usually okay with that.

I try not to profile people since I'm pretty much the opposite of what everyone would think, but I do at least tend to assume people are male.

get the fuck out u lier

I also work an 84 hour work week 7 days on, 7 off, and am underweight.
I do have a room you'd expect an otaku to have but theres american football stuff in it so its a bit of an odd mix. As well as some fishing gear and a bit of amateur radio stuff. Oh and a bunch of stuffed animals, because stuffed animals are huggable things.
Basically it scares women and thats perfectly ok.

Oh yeah, since we're including information:

31, male, white (of Italian and Irish descent. More Italian, so have a nice tan/olive skintone), right now have a full beard and moustache, married, no children (haven't been able to have any), have a Master's and a bunch of coursework toward a PhD. Oh yeah, and I have over 1000 physical video games.
Also broke and in massive debt, been through a number of medical issues (cancer, stroke), and pretty much going nowhere in life right now.

Oh yeah, and we have 2 cats and 1 dog. Yay!

Some golden responses here and thanks for the welcome Freaky Fred.

As it seems to have turned into people sharing information, I'm a 2nd year Politics & International Relations student and currently have a beard (and also the reason I'm awake at this atrocious hour- UKGaf) because I have refused to shave until I've finished my work for this semester. Though, I will note that as a student of Politics our beards are an indicator of aspiration and power, I'm currently at Abraham Lincoln but at the rate my work is going I shall by Karl Marx all too soon.

I don't even really think of Gaffers as human exactly, unless I've seen their actual face. You are all just your avatars and whatever posts I associate with those avatars. Basically we have a lot of highly opinionated animals, cartoons, and random objects posting.

Taking the reverse expectation, I can't help but feel like everyone here is better than me, or is more successful. Probably confirmation bias on what I pick up in posts but it seems like everyone is rich (relatively), has an office job where they spend half the day on the internet, or has their PHD in thermonuclear rocket trajectory-ism.

I wonder how many people read my posts in dat voice.

A service I am happy to provide :p

I dispatch a fleet of about 27 trucks at night from an office, so kind of. I have to manage all sorts of shit making sure fuel deliveries get made and drivers get the proper information and deliver safely and I deal with vehicle breakdown calls and emergency calls and so forth. It is occasionally too busy to post anything here for half the shift but sometimes it can be so uneventful I can spend most of the night posting here. Just depends really.
