Do you ever expect your average 'Gaffer' to fit a profile?

I'm a second-year undergrad studying computer science and linguistics. As mentioned above, female. Also white. No beard. I have video games on the order of ~500, speak Japanese fluently (I'm working on Chinese, Korean, Finnish [a bit], and Dutch [of all things] right now, because language), and would like to make it into the video game programming industry some day. Yay.

I pretty much expect everyone to be 21 year old white guys who hang on every social issue as though it's the most important thing in the world and their lives.

I have no clue how right or wrong I actually am, that's just about what I expect every time I talk to anyone. Unless they have an anime avatar, then I usually think they're the same, but fat.
 
Male, Asian-american, 23, finished my bachelors of biological sciences, starting my masters in microbiology and immunology this fall. My room is filled with science books, games, movies and some "otaku" thing. However I dont fit into the otaku/nerd/ stereotypes.

Edit: Not really fat, I am in good shape tho! I tend to work out on a weekly basis.

Im actually underweight. Really skinny. My brother wants me to get a gym membership so I can bulk up but I enjoy being a tiny person. Also Im ok socially, although I wasnt always. I can go hang out with people in a bar for example and not look like an idiot, but I wont drink.
I also love festivals and other social events and actingl ike an idiot in public. SInce most people in public around here get drunk, I just fit right in!
But mostly I just stay inside and catch up on anime and an occasional game because Im way too exhausted by the end of a 7 day shift to want to do anything. Also I dont care about dating or impressing women at all. If I never get married it would probably be a great thing for me. Women who meet me immediately put me in the friend zone and I actually like that because romance aint my thing. In fact, if I never get laid I really dont care. Im probably broken lol.
Perhaps Im just an alien, who knows. I like to bounce.

I'm socially great and I have an anime avatar, not saying anything about any of that, I just immediately assume everyone who watches anime is Davido-Kun, even though I watch next to nothing but anime and am not at all like that.

Likewise, everynow and then I go to the club to dance, bars with my friends to drink, I'm pretty good at basketball.. So I pretty much don't fit the bill despite my noctis avatar lolz

nopes. I dont speak a lick of japanese and I dont pretend to.
I like a lot of different cultures western to eastern. Theres fascinating people all over the place. Japan just happens to make a particularly fun type of animation I enjoy a lot but I sure as fuck would NEVER live there. Couldnt pay me enough to put up with that. Im happy here in 'Murica deep south in this Cajun region.

I believe that users here are on average much smarter, and a lot more socially conscientious, than the average person.

So, among all full-fledged members who aren't permabanned, even the dumbest among them is still meaningfully smarter than any random person you'd find out on the street or on the rest of the internet.

Well its not THAT scary, just a bunch of cute figurines (emphasis on a bunch) and anime discs and a bunch of TV/game equipment and wallscrolls and other shit. It definitely looks the part of an otaku room but without the fanservicey sexual overtones. I specialize in cute things. Being surrounded by cute things keeps me calm and focused and generally in an awesome mood 99% of the time. Like soul therapy. I know that makes no fucking sense but it does in my head.
The only foreign language taught around here is French and we are required to learn about three years of it in school since Cajun Louisiana is so heavily steeped in French culture and a form of it is spoken around here a lot (not to mention place and road names) But otherwise? english plz.

I have a pseudo-anime avatar (it's Ludger from Tales of Xillia, so not quite the same thing) and I don't watch anime at all. Oops.

I've spent a decent amount of time in area outside Nagoya (specifically, Miyoshi-shi) and I've found that I vastly prefer that lifestyle to the one I have here in the US, but that's just me. I'd probably prefer a lot of places to living in the US, honestly.

This is deeply concerning.

Anyhow, I don't really do the whole profile thing anymore. I've met enough Gaffers in the real world to know that this place is diverse, and you can't just cast a big all encompassing generalization net on the people here.

Which of course is very cool.

I love living in Louisiana. It ranks close to last in a lot of things but theres a joie de vivre here that you cant really describe. you just have to live it. Its fun. We enjoy life. In addition to anime and all the great food I could want around here I live pretty well all things considered. Im content.
 
I sorta have a general profile in my head, but it isn't as awful as what's commonly assumed.
We're all a little quirky :)

Yep. If anyone hangs around RealGAF, they pretty much know they is diversity among users. I mean, we even had a thread where a user didn't even know this was a gaming forum when he(she?) signed up for.

I live in nyc i love the craziness and rush from here.. If could leave somewhere else it would be Miami it has to be a big city.. I lived in the Caribbean and the quiet nature of it wasn't for me it was a good experience tho
 
We all play video games. Most of us are male, but some of us are female. We all speak English. We all have access to the internet.

Now theres a place Id love to visit. Though I lived in Jamaica 9 months as a kid I dont remember most of it. But theres something about the eternally tropical environment that fascinates. Its tied to the ocean and I love everything about the ocean. I hate beaches though lol.

I doubt the heat would bother me at all since southern Louisiana is basically a sauna in the summer.

Only bad thing is when hurricane season hits otherwise it's pretty cool, I love the beaches but hate the rivers idk why lol one thing about living in nyc I do like the variety of seasons instead of the eternal summer! But I would assume Jamaica must be fun smoke weed everydayy lol

I lived in the Dominican Republic for some years I could imagine lol one thing about Miami is that the sun could be bright and rain comes out of nowhere lol
 
I tend to think a lot of them are over weight and obese because for the most part only those looking better than average post pics of themselves here. A lot of ugly , chubs of all races.
