Do you ever expect your average 'Gaffer' to fit a profile?

Only bad thing is when hurricane season hits otherwise it's pretty cool, I love the beaches but hate the rivers idk why lol one thing about living in nyc I do like the variety of seasons instead of the eternal summer! But I would assume Jamaica must be fun smoke weed everydayy lol

again, hurricanes are somewhat common down here too so I wouldnt be too out of place climate-wise. Jamaica from what I remember had some nice touristy areas but some really REALLY dangerous areas. My Dad always told us to stay the hell away from Kingston. We lived out near Mandeville.

I specialize in cute things. Being surrounded by cute things keeps me calm and focused and generally in an awesome mood 99% of the time. Like soul therapy. I know that makes no fucking sense but it does in my head.

That's because cute things are best things.

The only foreign language taught around here is French and we are required to learn about three years of it in school since Cajun Louisiana is so heavily steeped in French culture and a form of it is spoken around here a lot (not to mention place and road names) But otherwise? english plz.

My high school decided partway through my time there to become a "language academy", so it offered a ton of languages. My area in general was hugely diverse, so that might be where my interest in foreign language came from, at least in part. There are a lot of languages I like more than English, haha, though I do appreciate having learned it natively given how ridiculous it can be.

I love living in Louisiana. It ranks close to last in a lot of things but theres a joie de vivre here that you cant really describe. you just have to live it. Its fun. We enjoy life. In addition to anime and all the great food I could want around here I live pretty well all things considered. Im content.

I'm originally from Texas, so I've visited Louisiana--I can see the appeal. I'm in Chicago now and find that it suits my personality a lot better, although I also admit that I'm from one of the most un-Texas-y parts of the state, so that might not be saying too much.

so basically from around Austin or San antonio.
Seems like an interesting part of the state if Im honest. Houston is pretty much like where I live except sprawling and a bit drier. Dallas/Ft worth is a whole different animal. I dont know much about El Paso or Midland or Lubbock areas. I also have no idea how you deal with all the snow up in Chicago or those temperatures. It snowed three times down here last winter and that was enough to make me sick of the stuff for a long time and it wasnt ever more than an inch of precipitation.

I do like to learn about people on Gaf and otherwise online though because I like people in general and find cultural and personal differences pretty fascinating.

I was born in Austin, but I've lived in a suburb of Houston for most of my life. It's not Texas-like at all, though, in that 1) I don't consider Houston to be all that stereotypically Texan, though it's not as great as Austin, and 2) the city I'm from is basically half South Asian and half East Asian, so growing up, I was friends pretty much exclusively with Indian and Taiwanese (+ some Chinese) people. People think it's weird when I try to explain, but that weird mixture of Asian American culture is way more familiar to/natural for me than any standard "American" or "white" culture. Texan culture is even more foreign. Some of my relatives scare me.

As far as Chicago is concerned, I'm crazy and love cold weather. So there you go.

ok that makes sense. houston is pretty diverse. I dispatched trucks there a bit a couple years ago (from our home office not in Texas) There are a few cultural enclaves around here but mainly white and cajun. A fair bit of asians from what Ive seen mostly Chinese and Vietnamese and Thai. One of my roommates is Indonesian. Generally I feel at home in an asian environment and I love to go to asian grocery stores and try new things in there. thats where I first tried durian and dragonfruit and other stuff.
This being a smaller city of about 120k theres a lot to be desired from bigger cities but it does pretty well for itself. I wouldnt fit into a city as large as Houston or Austin.

Just a bunch of normal, slightly quirky guys and gals who may or may not be sexual aroused by Japanese schoolgirl excrement.

The things that I have come to expect:

* The average Gaffer hates tipping
* The average Gaffer hates religion
* The average Gaffer is democratic and/or liberally leaning
* The average Gaffer is against the death penalty
* The average Gaffer is single and generally doesn't want kids

Those appear to be the dominant biases that I get from the GAF community fairly consistently.

Never actually tried durian. I can't think of anyone I know who's particularly fond of them, but I'd totally be willing to eat one.

I like large cities, but ones without too much bustle. That's why, for instance, I prefer Chicago to New York. Texas' cities are a little too lacking in that regard, though, mainly because people drive so damn much there. Public transportation ftw.

The average gaffer is single? Also, why did you choose the death penalty? Are people outside of GAF generally in favour of killing prisoners?

As for atheist and liberal, I can see that, most people in their 20s that I know are.

I don't even really think of Gaffers as human exactly, unless I've seen their actual face. You are all just your avatars and whatever posts I associate with those avatars. Basically we have a lot of highly opinionated animals, cartoons, and random objects posting.

Yep. I've forgiven a number of shitty posts because part of me truly believes there's a corgi on the other end.

I'm more of a subdued fangirl.

...I have been known to squee on occasion however.

When the Sherlock season 3 air-date gets announced, the pitch will drive every dog in a mile radius into a frenzy.

Poison Ivy? Big fan!

See what I did there?
I'm glad I was able to talk to a bird wearing a beanie during my time on this earth.

I don't fit any profile, because I'm an orange. My secret is that it's an anime orange. So it's an anime avatar that most people don't see as anime. That makes me cool.

The average American really could give two shits. They don't have a really strong or pronounced opinion on the subject. If you ask them they will provide you the conditions that it might be acceptable. That ain't our happy family here :)

This is deeply concerning.

Anyhow, I don't really do the whole profile thing anymore. I've met enough Gaffers in the real world to know that this place is diverse, and you can't just cast a big all encompassing generalization net on the people here.

Which of course is very cool.

You're just lucky I know the real you or your posts might be interpreted... differently. ;)

I'm already dead.

Got it.

Dead and helm-ed. All of your posts have the bony click of a reanimated jaw to them.

What about RyougaSaotome's avatar?

It lends a dickish quality to his posts. Naturally.

And when they're also wearing glasses... Adorable! I also have a soft spot for posters using their real pictures. I know some people really hate it here, but I like seeing who I'm 'talking' to. I think it also influences their posting style a bit too (in a nice way).

I don't expect any gaffers to fit any profile or role.

In fact I'd rather not ever think of any other gaffers at all. It's a lot better that way.

I stopped posting in FaceGaf because I got sick of people sending me PM's saying they want to eat things off my body.

Standard de-humanizing behavior of a sociopath.

I'm calling the cops

And apparently I'm Kim Pine. Which is almost true, except I'm just the male version.
