Do you ever get crazy nostalgia from smells?

I mount art paper on conservation board at work and sometimes the smell of the glue is just like the smell of cracking into a brand new pack of Pokemon cards. I miss walking down that little funny alley to Moe's, which was run by an esoteric, beardly old man who carried the only Japanese cards in town. Guaranteed holographic baby. Love that smell.

all the time, when i smell the ocean air, i get reminded of my elementary school, when i smell cherries, im reminded of road trips to santa barbara and las vegas.

Page 2 and no pussy mentions yet?

Not sure if proud or ashamed.

Not THAT per se, but the smell of Wintergreen gum takes me back to losing my virginity. My girlfriend was chewing it at the moment it started gettin' heavy.

Also lots of things smell like the homemade playdough we would cook up like every week in preschool.

Its because the nerve from your nose runs through your memory section of the brain. Thats why you dont have such a strong reaction when seeing or tasting things.

Pretty cool.

When I played one of my favorite games of all time, Conker's BFD for the first time, there were a lot of bushfires around at the time, so the air was strong with the smell of burning eucalyptus (an iconic smell if you're an Aussie). That was over 12 years ago. Now, whenever I smell the same scent today, I get strong nostalgia feels for my old house and playing that game.

I used to spray a certain cologne every time I went out with my ex early in the relationship (almost 2 years ago now). If I ever smell that cologne it rips me back strong.

I don't really put it on cause of that.

Yes 1 smell, my grandfather, the doctors fucked up his surgery, he went into to remove a lump in his left leg, too much bleeding, so they cut artery to his leg to finish the surgery, they forgot to reattach it and basically he stayed in the hospital for final 2 weeks of his life rotting away, when I went to visit him the last few days before he died his legs were rotting, the one smell I will never forget and sometimes i smell it when i go to the hospital, it instantly triggers memories of him laying on the bed dying...

longbeach cigarettes

i smelt some at work a few years ago and bam, i was on a beach holiday from when i was 6

I think it's new/fresh out of the box felt that reminds me of playing at my Grandad's house when I was little. So that's going back about 20 years, I guess.

The smell of freshly cut timber always reminds me of spending my formative years in my grandfathers workshop. Great smell.

Edit: Also, this takes me right back ...

I bought this type of gel and the moment I opened it, I was sent back to kindergarten. I realized that was the same brand I used as a kid.

Anyone else still remember the scent of their exes?

VERY strong memory triggers.

Not exactly, but smell of vanilla scented parfum takes me back to teen years when it was the choice of many girls.

When I get out of a plane in a tropical country the smell of air brings me back to previous visits.

Yeah, it's pretty crazy. A few years ago, I got an air freshener that smelled exactly like a rubber Yoda toy I got in the mid-80's. I barely remembered the toy before I smelled this thing. The memories were awesome.

Mos def.

It's usually a certain kind of laundry soap or fabric softener wafting out of a dryer vent that reminds me of being a gradeschooler playing Heman and G.I. Joes at a friends house.

Yeah, whenever I travel I always buy a small cologne that I only use on that trip.

It sounds weird but it's a good way to just relive those moments with a spray when I get back home.

The brain man, crazy stuff.

I have a lot of associations with food taste/smell and memories linked to them.

Like, the taste and smell of baked tortilla chips reminds me of playing Super Mario RPG on a tiny TV in my grandma's basement.

The smell of a freshly opened pack of printer paper reminds me of our old computer room when I was a kid and printed out move lists / fatalities for Mortal Kombat II.

Vick's Vaporub reminds me of when my grandma rubbed some on my chest when I was sick.

The smell of wood / wood dust (like from a drill or sander) reminds me of my dad's guitar workshop. His place has smelled of that same smell since I've been alive.

I'm going to do this from now on. Thanks for the idea.

I had a similar conversation with my girlfriend about this just the other day. Basically I brought up that the smell of Gridley's restaurant was strangely nostalgic for me over other restaurant smells. I could distinctly remember the BBQ smell inside a Gridley's that I went to as a kid but don't remember the smells of other places that we went to. Need to see if there's a Gridley's still around these parts.

ctrl+f "Pokemon cards"

God yes.
I still buy the new card packs every now and then. Opening them is always a rush. It sends me straight back to the fifth grade.
It takes me back to the playground, to the binders full of cards, to the various card shops, to the childhood trades and debates as to what card was more valuable.

I also had a friend in high school that always wore that 'sweet pea' scent from bath and body works. Smelling it now always takes me back then.

This will I am sure seem silly, but baby powder smell always reminds me of the first night I changed my oldest son. I was so nervous and tired that I dropped the baby powder bottle and coated us both in baby powder. My son is now 12 and this is one of my most vivid memories of when he was young.

I have almost no attachment to smells whatsoever. The only time I can recognize smells with my nose is with food. And that's usually not long term. I guess I don't have a good nose or something.

The smell of a dusty attic makes me nostalgic for Christmas. My family always stored our Christmas Decorations up there.

The smell of vanilla. Whenever i smell it im brought back to when i would enter my grandfathers house or bakery and he would be making cookies.

A time i greatly miss.

Yup especially if it's certain smells in old places or foods, most likely foods.

Then i'm all

Jesus fucking christ, you can't make a post without being avatar quoted.

I get very nostalgic when I smell my grandma's perfume and some beach-related shit. I think one specific type of sunscreen triggers it.

Vanilla triggers some nostalgia with me as well, my friend.

There's a certain vanilla-y handsoap that my mom had in all our bathrooms when I was first getting into World of Warcraft.

Whenever I smell it I get massive nostalgia about the early days of Vanilla WoW.
