That new Nintendo product smell... like brand new SNES / N64 carts and manuals... not sure if it's the ink, the plastic, or something else, but one whiff and it's like I'm playing Super Mario World for the first time all over again.

Yes. For some reason the smell of corndogs(the dough part) brings me back to being a kid, even though I never ate many of them.

yup, a mechanical elevator smell from one of those European elevators that have a handle door, when I was 6 years old.

Smelled that same odor at an amusement park near the machinery, the images of the elevator popped right back in there

The smell of the exhaust in some old cars. Brings me back to living in Manila, Philippines.

Also, the smell of my ex boyfriend's fabric softener. It makes me feel sad.

Burning fire wood does it for me or cold Autumn air.

Yes, this happened to me last week. Out of nowhere, I smelled some chimney smoke or burning wood and it instantly brought me back to my childhood when we would roast marshmallows near the fire. Quite amazing.

Smells are my #1 memory trigger. I've been biking through town a lot lately, and as I gather the smells from the shops I'm constantly recalling random scenes from childhood.

This is completely normal. The olfactory bulb is part of the limbic system, and specifically it is the part proximate to long term memory retention.

In other words: smell tends to provoke memory more immediately than other senses for people because the part of your brain that handles smell is simply very near the part of your brain that stores long term memories, while the parts of your brain that handle other senses like vision are farther away.

There's this one smell that, for whatever reason, brings memories of playing Paper Mario in my old house before I moved years ago. No idea why it does, but that's the only thing I can think of.

How the smell from a grill could spark up nostalgia

The smell of dry pine needles makes me think of when I visited North Carolina in the spring when I was younger. The south has a smell that makes me nostalgic in general, kind of musty/ wet smell, also brings back memories of visits from years goneby...
