Is anyone else out there like me? I'm a pretty easy-going person, but when I see headlines like 'Kenya Aiming to Host 2016 Olympics', I think there's no way in hell that will happen. We'll all be in the middle of a war, eating rations an remembering the good old days of central heating and mp3s. Those of us that haven't died.

I wouldn't go so far as to say I'm waiting for the apocalypse, but the more I look around, the more I think how easy it could happen, Terminator style.

Well, you're just growing up, is what you are. The future has been bleak in the eyes of people for about the last 200 years.

And with good reason. Many devestating wars, and nearly a nuclear one.

I don't think another World War or nuclear strike is inevitable in my lifetime, but there's a decent chance. I think economic integration will do well to keep the powers from fighting each other, but nuclear proliferation (into the hands of smaller states and groups) has me a little concerned.

Spoiled brats, those 19th century doomsday sayers. "Oh no! An accurate rifle! It is truly the end of days!" Meanwhile I've got nuclear warheads pointed at me (specifically!) and ice caps that can't wait to melt all the fuck over the place.

Zombie outbreak. And if you mean the end of the world *period, I'm not that afraid of it happening. "One great big festering neon destrustion..." I used to fear a lot for my life when I was younger, but not anymore.

Fear is growing up next to Ft. Benning, Georgia in the eighties.

Largest infantry training facility in the US? Check.

Cold war? Check.

Watching Red Dawn at age eleven? Check.

I'm a freak, but i'll be damned if the mutants/aliens/or undead will get to me. I'm getting a shot gun and a eagle. I dare you to try it. We have 4 years 10 months 17 hours 24 minutes 49 seconds till all hell breaks loose.

to be serious though yes life is bleak, depressing, and horrible. But i'm still living life.

And now the question comes to have a kid or not. How can I fully know that I will be creating something that will die? Seems selfish. I don't know, I think to much into things sometimes.

I really hope I live to see the end of humanity. To me, modern society is like a giant toilet that has been flushed. I'm just trying to enjoy the last few rounds before all the water is sucked down the drain.

I think reproducing now is an inherently selfish thing to do. I mean, there are children all over the world that need homes. Do we really need more?

Meh. All the dark thoughts in my head are related to money. I smoke some green, and I can forget about that for a few hours.

Odd thing is, I don't want anybody's kid(s). If I don't have my own, I don't want any.

Selfish again. :)

Heh, I know...that's the whole point.

The comedian Doug Stanhope had a pretty funny bit about this. He said that the reason no one wanted to adopt is because they know if the kid turned out good, they'd only get half-credit. Like, if he scored the winning touchdown at the Super Bowl, his father would say, "That's my boy!...kinda."

Dark thoughts? I can't wait to die. Its like like I'm depressed or anything, my life is good, I have fun friends, a place to live, food to eat, etc. Its just that I have a deep belief in an after life and I kinda wanna see what its like. That may sound silly, but its how I feel :p I'm not about to kill myself or anything, like I said I'm having fun in this body, but I'm curious as to what's next...

And as for the selfishness in adopting? Completely understandable. "If I have a kid, I want it to be mine" is a valid way of thinking. However, being adopted, I do not feel any less close to my family because we're not blood related. On a side note: I don't think I was ever "told" I was adopted, I've just always known. My family never kept it a secret from me (Or my sister, or my brother, who was actually born to my parents, so my sister and I make fun of him for being the 'birthie' ;) ) and I think the fact that its never been a secret is the key to it not being an issue.

;) No, its just never been a real issue. I keep in touch with the woman who runs the orphanage (She is my 'Aunt' Betty and kicks columbian ass :D ) I'm actually going to Bogota, Columbia for a month this spring to volunteer there and mebbe brush up on my spanish. But I was never explicity sat down and 'told' that I was adopted, no. I had a poem that my parents gave me when I was born called "The Chosen Child" that is still hanging in my room at my parents house.

Oddly enough tho, there have been strange occurances due to my adoption. I was sat down before I saw Annie the first time and explained that that is not how all orphanages are run. I was also told at a young age that while my sister and I are not blood related it would be wrong for us to hook up (yeah that was a weird convo, still not sure why my dad decided that needed to be said) and finally before I saw, um, some Clancy movie.. with Columbian drug lords.. anyway, I was sat down and told that not all Columbians are drug lords.

Anyway, I'm just rambling now, but yeah. Its really not a big deal if done right.
