Do you still run a virus scan on your PC?

I'm in my mid-30s, when i was a kid/teenager we had various PCs, when ever we bought them we were always advised to run a virus scan every week.

I decided to run a scan today (Avast), but i hadn't done a scan for probably the last 5 years.

Does anyone scan their PCs anymore for viruses? If not, why?

Are the active sheilds enough to not run a scan regulary?

All Anti-virus programs have a feature by default to run a system scan periodically. It just does it in the background, so most users won't even notice.
Even Windows Defender does it.
So unless someone is not using an AV, everyone else is running an AV scan.

But I do recommend an occasional scan, from a third party, once in a while, just to make sure.
I usually use either Emisoft, Malwarebytes or Bitdefender for a second opinion.

I know. I'm just kidding. 😉

I use VirusTotal and check any unsigned or otherwise suspicious DMG.

That is good. I also use VirusTotal whenever I'm unsure of some file.
And also ScamAdviser. To check files and sites.

Used to love doing these back in the day after leaving the pc on all night with about 30 torrents running…

Don't get the same excitement anymore.

Windows Defender scans your PC for viruses regularly unless you explicitly turn it off (and it will turn itself back on after a while)

So yes, you still do. It's just fully automated and in the background

I genuinely can not remember the last time I had a virus on my computer. It must have been in the late 90's or early 2000's after downloading crap from KaZaA or Limewire and shit like that.

Not getting a Virus now is more about background virus protection than scanning.

I had to redo my whole PC because of some Trojan I got a couple of months ago. Someone had remote access to my system. Watched them try to open my financial accounts.
