Do you use an alarm clock?

Don't have a clock in my bedroom at all, hate the ticking of an analog clock (always kept me awake at night). Hate digital clocks because of how bright the light coming from the numbers would be. Most people would say don't have the clock at eye level.......... I also tried moving it down to a lower height (ankle level) but the light would still reflect off something on the ground and it was annoying like having a full proper light on in the room.

Thus I grew accustomed to having on clock in my room at all, I can generally tell what the time is in the morning anyway.

I have one but I don't need it to wake. I tend to wake up before my alarm goes off. My alarm is a just in case sort of deal.

Yes I use my phone as a fail safe just in case I don't get up. I usually just wake up 30-40 minutes before I need to though. I guess my body is just used to the schedule at this point.

I have an alarm clock app on my phone that uses the accelerometer to sense if I'm in a deep or light sleep and it uses a window of time I set to trigger an alarm when it senses I'm most susceptible to being woken up.

It also has a feature where all I have to do is slap my bed to trigger the snooze.

I use one but it's questionable how effective it really is... I just use my phone admittedly and vary between several ringtones / music tracks until each one makes me feel nauseous on hearing it.

Would help if I could sleep in the first place though. Constantly waking up throughout the night.

I use an alarm.
As long as I get around 7 hours of sleep, I don't wake up feeling any groggier than I do not using an alarm so I don't really think it is a big deal.
If you aren't giving yourself enough time to rest and using an alarm to force yourself up, then yea that is probably not good for you, but I don't really think that is the alarm's fault.

Speaking as someone who has sleep apnea and proof that he doesn't sleep enough... it sucks.
I get on average 5.3 hours of sleep and my sleep pattern is sleep for sbia less than 5 hours and then one day a week I sleep between 6-7 hours when my body is exhausted enough. I can't go to bef earlier because that means I wake up even earlier, the amount of sleep is the same...

The few occasions I have to wake up I have a fitbit silent alarm that I much prefer to an audio alarm.
The sleep lag does not affect me however. I am fully awake the moment I open my eyes, never groggy and never able to fall asleep again. Which is why I am up from 5-6 even on weekends... my exhaustion comes in the evenings, I cannot force myself awake and caffeine does nothing for me. I don't even dtink coffee but I've tried and even tried several cans of energy drink, once I get tired I cannot stay awake. Even fallen asleep in my chair with friends over...

But as for alarms... get a fitbit.

I use my phone or my dog wakes me up, usually I wake up a little before the alarm anyway.

But one thing I hate about the old alarm clocks is the fucking sound, to this day if I hear it it puts my in a bad mood.

I use my cell phone, but I still keep an alarm clock on my bedside stand. It just feels appropriate to have a digital clock near the bed. Like it's supposed to be there. But I just use it as a clock.

I don't, but I rarely have to be up at a certain time.

As a kid, I couldn't trust them because I was such a sound sleeper that I didn't hear them my Mom would wake me up.

Cellphone, although I usually wake up naturally beforehand but try and go back to sleep. I do feel pretty groggy most mornings, it tends to be worst when I oversleep though (going to bed early).

I dont use a traditional alarm clock anymore. Being jarred awake every morning feeling my heart racing is not a good way to start the day. Instead I just use Sleep As Android app and have a slow rise in volume to a tune. Much better than any traditional alarm clock imo.

I use my cell with a normal clock as backup. Every morning, I turn off the snooze and set a new, last minute or be late alarm. I need to get better.

My fiancée has an alarm set on her phone for 6:30am. We could get away without an alarm since we normally wake up around 7am naturally and leave for work at 8am, but we like being able to eat breakfast together in the morning and watch an episode of whatever show we're into at that time. Without the alarm, we probably wouldn't have the extra time for that.

I'm really curious about one of those "natural light" alarm clocks that progressively get brighter at the time you set. With or without an alarm, I feel more energetic in the morning and wake up much easier when there's a lot of natural light coming through the window. I want to try one of them out to see how I like it.

Even though i wake up before it goes off i like to play it safe so yes.

this sounds like such a miserable life. I couldn't do it.
If getting 8 hours a sleep is a miserable life sign me the fuck up i would love to get more than 5-6 hours of sleep.

My phone is my alarm. Wake at 5:30am, bed at 9:30pm. The only downside is that in summer I need black-out blinds, or it's too light to sleep.

Don't have kids or anything, I just like to exercise before work, and get to work at 8am.

I set it just in case but 90% of the time I wake up before it goes off. Problem is everytime I need to get up early for work or school I wake up periodically throughout the night and dont get a proper nights rest. Waking up early sucks.

I don't know how I could get up in time without it. I have five alarms set to go off in a row on my phone, in the very likely event that my dumb morning self turns off the first one or three instead of snoozing. And yes, I know it's better not to snooze at all, but I just don't know how to accomplish that.

I also have my TV set to turn on simultaneously with my first alarm.

Yes. On most weekdays, I have cellphone programmed to wake me up at 5:40 am, with the exception on Wednesdays, when I wake up at 6:30 am.

For compensate, I usually go to sleep at 10 pm.

I wake up to prevent my alarm clock (app) from going off. I don't remember the last time it successfully triggered. Good thing I hate the sound it makes that I learned to wake up at certain times.

In 1986 I got an alarm clock almost exactly like this one:

maxresdefault.jpg

I still use it today.

My parents had that exact one. Never missed a beat.

I just use my phone, set for 6:20, but my girlfriend sets hers for 6:00, so there is literally no point in me setting mine, other than as a fail safe for when hers doesn't work...which is surprisingly often.

Mental alarm clock since high school.

I remember hating the alarm so much that my brain would wake me up before it went off so I could disable it lol..

Guess that kinda trained my brain to wake up on its own..

I literally just tell myself the night before: "7:00, 8:10, whatever" and I will wake up within a minute of it

EDIT: Damn look at me catching myself in a half lie. The above is my knee jerk response when asked the question because it was true throughout highschool and up until I was about 23 I'd say.. But I guess it stopped working? Not as consistently I guess because I have loads of alarms on my iPhone to wake me up for shit, and will certainly set it if I have something important to do.

Alarm clock harmful?

Man, literally everything hurts you in some way.

Only thing safe these days is drinking water and breathing air.

Not if you live in Flint or China...

Back on topic, I set my phone to go off at 5:40 am and my TV to turn on at 5:45. The combination makes getting up very easy. The alarm has a soft soothing melody to begin my awakening and the news on in the background finishes the job. If I need to be up early, somehow my body just responds and wakes when needed and on weekends I'm lucky to sleep in past 7 am.

I set an alarm on my phone. If I don't, I will sleep in. 100% guaranteed. I could sleep for over 14 hours straight if I let myself.

But I still feel refreshed after 7 to 8 hours. It's weird.
