Doctor Who as an 80's style anime

This is an amazing, one-man project that has been going on for years, and has finally been completed this month:

All 13 minutes of the completed fake Doctor Who 80s-style anime. Drawn, animated and partially voiced by myself. Some bits are good, some bits are poor, but on the whole it turned out okay, I think. Enjoy! This is old school Who, so fans of the new reboot show may be confused by the fact that the Doctor is doing martial arts and Cybermen say "excellent." Watch the classics and you'll understand. You'll also become almost instantly more handsome by watching classic Who.

PS - for those complaining about total lack of story or narrative in this clip, I did always state from the start that it was only going to be an extended trailer with no plot. Think of it as highlights from a 24 epsiode series if there was one.

Its all completely based on the old series, so the Daleks are pre-Time War era and the Cybermen are are an apparently more advanced faction than we've seen before.

I think its awesome work, especially for a one-man production.

Jesus Christ. I love the interpretations of the Cybermen and the Master, although kung-fu Doctor is a bit too unknown for me (yeah yeah, I know, classic Who reference). The animation is wonderful for a fan project. Goes to show that Doctor Who can adapt to pretty much any genre

What's with all the Doctor Who threads?

Sheesh.

Saw this a couple of years back. Absolutely fantastic work. Would love to see an anthology Doctor Who set like Animatrix. I think the use of the Third Doctor is a great choice as well.

These should catch you up, some overlap but unique footage in each.

The animation in this one-man project is better than most real anime. This is ridiculously impressive. It doesn't really look like 80's anime though.

A one man project? Amazing! If he added film grain and toned down some of that over shading in characters it would be perfection!

Get this man a job.

Ha, a pleasant reminder of how Pertwee used to deal with thugs who pulled guns out on him.

If you pulled out a gun on the seventh Doctor, he'd play mindgames with you until you felt compelled to put the gun down and cry at the futile darkness of the universe. If you pulled a gun out on the fourth Doctor, he'd act like it was invisible and by doing so take its power away from you.

And if you pulled out a gun on the third Doctor, as per the video, he'd beat the shit out of you.

God I love this show.

I honestly don't know much about different anime eras, I was just using the same description given by the video creator in his Youtube summary.

the artwork looks a whole lot better than any anime I have seen in a while. Not really a fan of how he draws his female characters though. They look too much like stock anime types with no clothes

I have to agree that this is awesome, but besides the intro it didn't have an 80's anime feel to it at all.

His Cybermen design is damned good. Good enough it would be suitable for an updated version in live action Doctor Who.

Anything involving the Daleks or space felt kinda 80s to me, but all the humans were definitely not.

An impressive effort for one man. Not a doctor who fan so I can't really geek out on the references. As an animation fan though, I can say it looks sort of hideous and the character designs make me taste bile in the back of my throat.

... still impressive for one man, though.

It is pretty damn awesome but lets not go crazy here!

It's neat, but there's no flow to it. It just jumps around nonsensically with no coherent plot. Great job on the animation but boo-urns to the story.

Um it says this right at top.

Anything involving space, the cybermen, and the daleks was incredible. Well, I mean, the whole thing was incredible because that's a one-man job, but still, those bits were especially - believable, I guess.

All the human stuff was a little too odd 80s/modern anime for my tastes, but it's still exceptional work

That was really great.

I don't think he intended to have a coherent plot just a demonstration of his Doctor Who anime.

Holy shit, this is awesome

I didn't think too much of it until I saw the robots, those were clear improvement on the originals

Not that you aren't entitled to your opinion, but can I ask in what way it was so bad?
It looks like one of those stereotypically bad deviantart pages that everyone hates (except those that propogate that shitty style on the site of course) only animated. Like I said it's impressive one man was able to rise to the level of terrible production anime (or a step below), but I'm not going to let that influence my stance on it being a crap final product.

There's a ridiculous number of anime with bad animation, so I'll side with him on this one.
I don't know if it actually means anything if it's that all encompassing. In other words, the animation is above the level of a really poorly produced show? That doesn't sound like praise to me!

It's impressive, but I wished it hewed more to an 80s aesthetic. And Dali hit it on the head, all the humans look like bad deviantart.

This is actually pretty good for something done by a single person. There are some good and bad parts but the good ones are fantastic and the bad ones are...eh, not a big deal.
Overall crazy awesome.
As I'm now up to date with the current season I should go back and rewatch the 3rd Doctor onwards.
A shame some of the 2nd and 1st Doctor's episodes won't be recovered until the far future when we use time travel to retrieve them.

The creator is quite critical of the quality and art direction in modern anime. In particular, he hates the lack of shading and shadowing. He's made himself quite a few enemies with this stance.
