The creator is quite critical of the quality and art direction in modern anime. In particular, he hates the lack of shading and shadowing. He's made himself quite a few enemies with this stance.
Well it's pretty clear that he loves the kind of extensive shading you'd find in 80's works such as Dirty Pair, but his character designs range form good to awful, with lots of awful. Especially the female characters, but to be fair that is extremely faithful to 90's anime which was home to it's share of super ugly character designs.

The mechanical designs are are some what better.

I like how he stole some animation from what I assume is Call of Duty.

Seriously though, this is amazing even if some of the animation and character design is pretty shoddy.

I liked it. Only things I didn't like were some of the female designs but then again, it is faithful to 80s/90s anime.

Really liked his Cybermen design and I think a Doctor Who anime could be pretty cool. Like some one said make it a collection of shorts or something like the Animatrix. Have an animated short for each one of the doctors (get sound-a-likes for the older ones).

I see lots of shading heaped on iffy, inconsistent character designs and animation without much flow or elegance. As a proof of concept for his 5-tone-shading evangelism, it doesn't quite work. A lot of the scenes are cluttered with little that draws the eye. Some of the camera angles and framing just plain hurt. There's a lot of basic stuff that seems like it was ignored in favor of shading! and characters speaking Japanese.

I'm sure it took him a lot of work, and maybe it'll get him an animation job, so I guess that's something. Maybe with time and practice, he'll make something less focused on his pet interests and more on being a cohesive product.

It's kind of ironic that this post is made today and just yesterday, it was announced that there are going to be animated versions of the missing episodes from Story #008: The Reign of Terror.

I can't say I'm terribly impressed. I didn't care much for the art style and the animation felt a little clunky at time. Also, I felt the audio didn't work all that well with it, though that's not really the creators fault. Overall I think the creator would have been better off doing something shorter, that way they could have spent more time polishing the animation to a higher standard.

I'm impressed with the work that went into it, but the final result is just ugly a lot of the time. To be fair that's not a surprise when you're an amateur, but overall the art direction is just really poor.

If you want to see something actually good animated by one person, watch Voices of a Distant Star.

I liked it, some of the animation was decent and others were really stylish. Also this is the same guy that made this critic on Fansub which was entertaining and educational.

Anybody have some recommendations from the golden age of Anime? There is some really beautiful animation from older series but I don't know the names.

That was done by one person? Holy shit.

Just when you thought it couldn't get any more awesome.

Sutekh!

I hope the 50th anniversary is like this, all the greatest villians returning for one collosall gangbang. Infact, with all the talk over years of a big budget Who movie, it would seem the logical next step. I'm sure Ecclestone would return for another bathe in the river with a Hollywood pay packet waved in his face.
