Does anybody remember the game Entomorph?

is beloved, despite what anyone might say
I was thinking about this game the other day for some reason... When I first got a PC (Gateway Pentium 75 with Windows For Workgroups 3.11 on it), I found a demo of this game in one PC games mag (forget which)... enjoyed it somewhat, so bought the actual game. Interesting game, it was a PC action RPG, I believe it was from SSI (the maker of all those old D&D games). You ran around a jungle island punching insects with fists.... I think there was some sort of a story in there but I couldn't remember (villagers mutating into insects, battling the Queen Bee, or something like that). Quite a challenging game, I remember not knowing where to go on a number of occasions... before a bug (a game crash bug not an insect - no pun intended!) reared its ugly head and I couldn't continue. The graphics were prerendered and looked pretty clean for the time, and the music had a very Japanese buttrock style to it.

Anybody remember this game or have any other obscure PC games they wanna talk about (I always wanted to try that D&D Dark Sun game...)?

Entomorph was a fucking lame game. I claim this thread in the name of Al-Quadim Genie's Curse, the action RPG on the PC which was actually GOOD! :D

I personally liked the game. Good music too. Awfully buggy though :(

edit/ you should try out dark legion, IMO the best game silicon knights have created. It's a
turn based tactic RPG like final fantasy tactics but not as complex.

Dark Legions is pretty much just Archon EX, fun but nothing awesome. :(

I call the backup army and split this thread in two, conquering it in the name of Fallout and Planescape Torment once more.

But.... I thought this thread was about old forgotten action RPG games on the PC by SSL! :(

Al-Quadim Genie's Curse was indeed awesome (though I guess it was no A Link to the Past or anything)! I bought a boxed set which included a bunch of subsidiary D&D games like that, Ravenloft, Dungeon Hack & the Dark Sun games...

Good times! I put tons of time into them all.

Yeah, I didn't really love Dark Legions either... It was pretty unbalanced, though I don't remember the specifics (I think the demon would eat everyone up or something :lol ).

Anyone remember that Buck Rodgers RPG they had on the Genesis? (I think it was a port of an SSI game) I loved that game. I beat it multiple times!

Sure, I remember Entomorph.

When SSI lost (or relinquished; I forget which) the AD&D license c. 1994, it created a game world of its own as foundation for new games. This was Aden (not to be confused with the Aden of Lineage).

It was the basis for two games: the 3D RPG Thunderscape and isometric action-RPG Entormorph. (There was also a tabletop game and, I think, some Thunderscape novels.)

Other games may have been planned, but these were the only two to see the light.

In their day, as I recall, neither game got much love--Aden had no history and hence, no built-in demand--but time has been kinder to them, and each is worth revisiting for their thoughtful designs. (Alas, both games are also linear compared to the AD&D games.)

Trivia: Thunderscape used the engine for the unreleased Cyclones 2.
