Does Anyone Miss Strider? I Do.

Every version of that game was awsome. (Well maybe not Strider 2 for the Megadrive).
Imagine if they brought it up to date and gave it the elements of the NES version with the cool story and also utilized the action of the PSX version. I think its hands down the most under utilized and under appreciated action franchise that Capcom has at their disposal. We need a next gen rebirth of Strider, Capcom!!! I mean if Itagaki could get his hands on it it would be downright amazing. If it got the Ninja Gaiden treatment that would be nothing short of gaming perfecton. Who's with me!! *waves flag with strider logo above head*

The NES version was the best. It had a krazy story-line for the time!

Absolutely I must've played thru it 4 times. It was very dramatic and anime like for its time. Way ahead of itself for an early Nes title.

I honestly do not believe this game could make the transition to 3D given the current standards of 3D game design. Too much hinges on the Crapcom RE style of presentation for a newer title to recapture the sensation of freedom in Strider.

I'm trying to think really hard of a game that comes close; and drawing blanks. Perhaps Bujingai if it had a bit more polish.

Okay, let's see what Red Entertainment can do! :P

Capcom doesn't need Itagaki to make Strider 3, they've already got Hideaki Itsuno. :)

I remember being so hyped for strider for genesis, and then paying alot of money for it and finishing it in a couple of hours. I definitely liked the NES version more, much more interesting.

Wasn't there preliminary work being done on a 3D version?

They'd probably just turn it into a beat-em-up, like every other cool 2D that never was a beat-em-up (Castlevania, Ninja Gaiden, etc).

I love the original Strider more than the NES version.

Genesis version blew my socks off.

Strider, to this day, has some of the best 2d level design Ive ever seen. For that, you sacrifice the longevity of the game.

Just look at level two: Start out in the snow, beat a giant robot karate monkey, scale a factory duct past giant gears, defeat Solo, run down a mountain, jump a casm, search your way through a faulty power facility, climb the skies on little hovering sleds, climb on an airship and kill the captain of the ship. Sure, it can be done in 3 minutes, but Ive never had more fun in one level.

Yep, it was being made for Xbox by Production Studio 6. Unfortunately, Chaos Legion totally bombed and the division was shut down. :(

yeah, strider was awesome. It's a perfect franchise to update into 3d. a ninja gaiden/DMC style game would be killer. I would like something a little closer to ninja gaiden ... A greater sense of freedom and a full 3d movable camera would be appropriate i think.

I loved the genesis version because it was the first game i can remember where the music changed during a level to fit different situations, like a movie. the presentation in that game was pretty damn cool for the time and it was one of my favorite genesis games. I finished it multiple times. Was there an arcade version? I seem to remember hearing about one, but i never played it. I also liked the nes version.

Tough call Border.

I enjoyed them both for different reasons. The underpowered NES hardware couldn't deliver the action packed awesome from the arcade, so Capcom ended up making an entirely different game that was a bit like Metroid in some ways.

Strider arcade now is a bit sluggish, but back then it was hot shit! :P

I loved this part too, I was just playing it a couple of weeks ago. It's also funny in the first level where you have to fight the communist party jumping out their seats.

I'd love to see it revived too. I see it as a Devil May Cry type game with some more platforming and different weaponry (obviously)

Yeah, this was pretty sweet too. I really felt that had the Cold War extended to 2042, Japan would have likely sent a space ninja to do this.

See, Strider is also satire.

Don't foget the russian super soldier who you have to make explode in the first level. And the communist amazon womens.

No way. I never heard about that. Thats crappy if true.

8 MEGA MEMORY ...I had forgotten about that. The magazines had made such a huge deal about it.

I remember sneaking a peek at my X-mas gifts to see if I was getting Strider. After finding that I was, I regretted it because it made the wait that much harder.

And that box art - yeesh. It's as miserable as I remember it. "Well, the game has a very anime/japanese feel to it, but let's try to fool american gamers with this much more appealing realistic interpretation by an artist who's likely never played the game."

the game with the most "II" ever?

- osman/cannon dancer (arcade)
- strider 2 (genesis)
- strider 2 (PSX)

It could work in 3d, but it would require the gameplay of Gun Valkerie and the Revolution controler. If settling for a ninja gaiden xbox control sheme, it would totally basterdise the gameplay and it would not be strider anymore.

I think it would do quite well as a 2D game on the Nintendo DS, atleast bring out a new 2D version before potentially butchering it as a next-gen 3D one.

They might as well try something in 3d. They have proven that they could not top the original with Strider 2 on PSX. The level design was not at the same level (though still very interesting).

A seamlessly loading 3d Strider 3 with colourful and varried level design could be sweet. Keep the awesome cold war motif.

Strider got alot of loving in both MvsC's and the PS port + sequel so I'm okay with him being a relative no-show this gen. But he oughta come out next-gen in full 2d form!
