I'm curious if Buffy improves much past Season One? I finally got around to opening my box set, not sure its worth buying more. I guess I'm too much of prude to enjoy it much at its current state, poor acting and FX worse then even some 70 shows I seen. Wasnt this during or after X-files era at least? I realize it meant be slapstick horror to some degree but I dont think I suppose to be laughing everytime any action takes place, that kind of defeats purpose of a plot.

Think of Season 1 as nothing more than an introduction to the characters. Go watch Season 2 and then report back. I sorta like Season 1 because you get used to who is who and don't have to let that get in the way of Season 2.

Come on... dumb question IMO... of course it does... how many publications, fans, websites are out there that rave over the show...

Season 1 sucks for most shows out there... it is really a season to introduce characters, get a flow or direction...

Sorry for being rude... YES, it gets better...

Only episode of season 1 I liked was 'Angel', and even then, only because of the follow-up episodes.

You might not even like the beginning of season 2. Watch up to episode 17 (my favorite buffy episode ever). If you don't absolutely love Buffy by then, give it a chance until episode 22 (my third favorite buffy episode ever). If you don't love it by then, you won't ever.

So it takes 22 hours of investment before Buffy becomes enjoyable? I guess thats better than 60...

Thank ya! I definitely grab two at least then. I come from X-files, Oz, Sopranos, etc. In my opinion what you saw was what you got from first ep onward.

I'm a huge X-Files fan but I disagree with you. What you saw early on wasn't what you got later on. Buffy was sort of a 13 ep trial run where they didn't expect it to last so that's why you got what you got. When they got picked up for the second season, that's when they realized they could do what they wanted to with the show.

Season 1 was awesome and hilarious corney tv fun. 2 and 3 and some of 4 ARe the best, the rest are ok tv watching. Not fucking horrible, but seasons 5-7 sorta keep it from being anywhere near as good as angel.

Season 1 isn't even worth watching. You really don't need it to be "introduced" to the characters either. An attentive viewer could pretty much figure everything out on their own if they started in Season 2. If you had asked me how to "get into" Buffy I would have told you to start at S2.

Season 1 has no character driven episodes, and all the plot driven episodes revolve around really fucking stupid premises (OMG INTARNET DEMON! HYENA POSSESSION!). At best it is mediocre, at worst it is humorless fanfiction from a 10th grader.

Buffy apologists might have you believe that a first season can't be anything but inherently mediocre since it must introduce characters and plot archs, but c'mon. The first seasons of Alias, Sopranos, The Shield, Twin Peaks, etc were all arguably their best. Buffy Season 1 is just a piece of shit....much moreso than the frequently hated-on Seasons 6-7. Let's just admit it ;)
