Does PS5 Pro become more relevant in these next few years if PS6 is delayed?

If PS6 gets delayed to 2028 or 2029 and the PS5 gen gets extra exteneded....do people start looking more and more at getting a PS5 Pro in the meantime? It's pricey for a console but it could be a relative bargain all things considered in these next few years compared to other options.

Eh, depends on the games as usual, at this point I think buying a PS5Pro is worthless if PS6 is releasing in 2027/2028, now if it's delayed to '29/'30, at least that's 2-3 years more of use which it's ok

Once Astro Bot gets released on PC. I'll be free of the Sony ecosystem completely. FREE

Last night I finally gave in and bought Last of US 'Part 1' and Horizon Forbidden West on Steam. They were half off.
PS4 and PS5 are now completely obsolete for me. No more relevancy.
except for Astro Bot, The one holdout.

I just feel like with the rumors of Sony extending the PS5 generation it just makes PS5 Pro a safer purchase than originally thought.

No. It's relevance was always locked to its price and it's not a mass market price. If people want something powerful I have the feeling next year Microsoft is going to give them reasons to open their wallets.

Until you find out that Sony remains on track for holiday 2027. Then what would you think about having just purchased a PS5 Pro this year or early next knowing the PS6 is on the horizon?

Best move for Sony to make, announce delay to 2030 for PS6, then in January 2028 go 'we actually have something cool happen, we finished the PS6 early, it comes out next month lmao'

Everyone wins.

Nope, not really, people will still buy the standard PS5 though

I'd also like the Nathan Drake collection with Uncharted 1-3 on PC. I still have the PS3 disks. Who knows maybe someday I might actually replay these games.

I hope so. It's been absolutely neglected so far. No clue why FFXVI, Cyberpunk and Witcher 3 don't have a PS5 Pro modes for instance. The new Kingdom Come Deliverance PS5 release also has no Pro mode. Seems to be way more common to not get Pro modes lately. Or at least it just feels that way. Sony needs to get more devs on board with it.

People who wanted a PS5 Pro would have bought it. It's relatively expensive for what it does at $750 + $75 for Disk Drive.

I suspect it will get uptick for GTA VI but that's about it

Can't see that game getting released on PC.

W3 and CP are old games. KCD has noticeably higher resolution on Pro vs. base PS5.

But I agree, Sony should force devs to patch the biggest games released before Pro launch and be more strict about new games.

Maybe if they release this mythical pssr 2.0 that is gonna cure all illnesses and starvation in the world...

All forgiven if he can at least fix me a date with his big bazongas sister.

Yes, especially with cross platform being a thing. Just because the PS6 launches doesn't mean a significant number of people aren't going to stay with PS5 for a few years. Sony as we speak has been sending out messages to PS4 users encouraging them to upgrade, 5 years in. And we don't even know what the PS6 price is going to be, but if it's what we all expect and it's $700 or more......yeahhhhhh.

Of course, I just bought a mint condition PS5 Pro digital off FB this morning for $500, so maybe I'm saying all the above to convince myself : )

I'd imagine there are a few on the fence waiting to see how meaningful an update PSSR 2 is, but I don't think a delayed PS6 will move the needle too much.

Learned my lesson with the PS4 pro, never again.

It ran hot and hardly anything utilized it. Maybe with an extended time gap you'll see better support for the PS5 pro but I wouldn't hold my breath, especially wrt third parties.

The trouble is, Sony would have to announce a delay -- announce that they are releasing PS6 in 2029, for instance -- before that sort of effect would take hold. But Sony won't announce a release date until we are much closer to the actual date. In the meantime, people won't take action based on speculations about delay.

It's interesting that they added path tracing to Cyberpunk for PC but did nothing for the PS5amateur.

Haha, absolutely not, not with the weak exclusive lineup they've had all generation. I've gone almost an entire year without even turning my PS5 on. I just play everything on PC at this point. Maybe someday Sony will get back to releasing several great single player exclusives a year, but I doubt it will happen anytime soon.

I bought the PS5 Pro but in hindsight it probably wasn't the wisest investment. Unless PSSR 2 really transforms the image quality, it's not much better than the base PS5. Unless the PS6 is delayed till 2030 then, it would be better to save up for the PS6 in 2028 if it really is $1000.

Sure if Sony actually keep up with the software support. Should be all the ML features from Nvidia or even AMD redstone like ML denoising at the very least

Is it relevant now? It isn't the big premium leap that justifies the cost and then buying a disc drive for the physical collectors. This console gen has been fucked, and it looks like next gen is fucked too. But as a lifelong console player, I think maybe it's time to let consoles die so people can appreciate what we had, and it can maybe go back to that time.

I updated my GPU instead. My next console will be the PS6. The base PS5 is good enough for me. The hard to run multiplats I just play on PC.

If they need 1.5 years to make PSSR2 work on Pro, I really doubt they are going to make more ML models for that.
