Does Shadow Hearts Convenant get good?

I got to the underground subway and I find the battle system to be a little a lame. The spinning dial doesn't really do it for me. And the camera during battle is SO ANNOYING!!

I got another question, I expected this to be a fantasy J-RPG. What is all this stuff about europe and world war 1. It looks like a real clash of themes. It doesn't fit nice and tightly like Metal Gear Solid, it's much more loose. Like when the hell did the german army have female leutenants? :lol

You let GAF recommend you a game, didn't you? :lol
I bought it for like 15$ so I'm not exactly let down or anything, I just want to know if it gets better and if it's worth continuing if I dont like what I see.

game is decent nothing especial I found the game to be very fucking retarded at times. the vampire wrestler comes to mind.

2nd disc is all about story 1st disc is slow as hell.

so maybe you'll like the game more when you get to the second disc.

I didn't really like the characters and the story was ridiculous, but I liked the gameplay enough to push through to the end. So I guess since you don't like the gameplay my thoughts are of no help. Sorry:P

I never really trust Midway published/produced games.
the two Shadow Hearts are about one the of the few good games they have published IMO.

It seems to be loved by some people here on GAF, that's partly why I decided to try it out. Played through it, but never really understood the hype.
The ring system was cool but got somewhat tiresome later in the game. Didn't care too much for the story or characters either (with few exceptions). It never really took off as far as I'm concerned.
Cutscenes were nicely made (in terms of direction rather than graphical excellence), but voices were kind of bad which ruined the atmosphere for me at times. The game had a few funny moments, wish it had more. In the end, I considered SH: Covenant to be above average.

Shadow Hearts Covenant is one of the better RPGs this gen, and anyone who hates is is simply admitting to hate life. So you decide.

I quite enjoy it. I'm in this place with all of these mirrors, but I admit I haven't played much since the 360 arrived.

On any given day, there's not a single game this forum won't destroy or praise. And it's usually a majority of people on one side, with the opposing team not posting in the thread.

People have some really stupid reasons for not liking certain games. "It just didn't grab me." or "I didn't like the art." As opposed to mechanical problems which we're willing to overlook for a title that fits in with our strange tastes.

Yeah the dial is quite stupid. I've never worked so hard playing an RPG. :D

Agreed. Got about 15 hours into the game before I realized how stupid and corny the game was. Battle system was decent, and the battles weren't easy, but the rest of the game was middling to poor, in my opinion.

I like it.

But then again, I like games that are corny on purpose rather than in secret mockery of it's fans (here's to you Final Fantasy!!!)

so why is it one of the better RPGs this gen in your opinion? it's easy to say a game rox or sucks without mentioning why.

IAWTP

So much Square quality oozing from this game. Memorable characters, fun as hell battle system, quirky humor (although maybe the collecting of gay men cards was a bit much :lol :lol ) makes this game one of the best RPGs this gen. :)

This is true and I support the statement 100%.

I thoroughly enjoyed SH:C as well. Definitely one of the better RPG's this generation. I eagerly await the third installment.

The game is awesome - it's got a quirky, aware sense of humor (I like how Yuri is referred to as the "anti hero"), funny situations (the
Man Festival
being ROFL), a decent and unique battle system that provides for lots of options and customization without being too verbose. The music is also excellent and more interesting than most generic RPG buttrock (the 2nd disk boss theme with the ethnic chant in the background being my favorite). Plus I think the setting is awesome, the whole 'alternate reality' bit, and how it alludes briefly to historical events.

My complaints - The puzzles in the dungeons can be a tad annoying from time to time (does every RPG have to have puzzle based dungeons nowadays?), and the graphics in some areas look like they can use work - being either too washed out or with jaggies. Oh... and the game can be painfully easy at times! I could defeat the end guy with like one huge combo before he can even attack :P

But overall, it's my second favorite RPG this gen... well it was the first till of course a few weeks ago ;)

Shadow Hearts Covenant is a great and refreshing RPG. It just felt so polished and well defined. I played the two games back to back, and SH had a lot going for it, but it was all polished off and made awesome in the sequel.
Battle system is tops too.
