Does the DS support GB/GBC carts?

Can anyone confirm?

Oh, and a tetris game on the DS would rock. Being able to rotate and move pieces manually with the stylus = awesome. Too bad both screens aren't toch sensitive.

No, it only plays GBA games in the second slot...GB and GBC games will not fit.

For the BILLIONTH time. No.

The DS is only capable of playing GBA games, and only in single player modes. "Hotseat" multiplayer too, but nothing requiring any kind of GBA or GCN linking.

not only will they not fit, the ds won't recognize them either, apparently. I cut up an old crappy gb game to test and shoved it in and the menu still said there wasn't a cart in there.

I can't even remember the last time I played a GB or GBC game on my GBA SP. You figure the DS would be capable of emulating them, but meh...

That's how I look at it. I sold off my SP, but if I ever get the urge to play the few GB/GBC games I have left, I have the GB Player.

If I want to play them on the go, I use my Zodiac 2 and play them emulated. :)

I've got way too many GB and GBC games to ever consider getting rid of my GBA SP, so the DS not playing them is a bit of a disappointment, but not that much, really.

Never surrender dude.

Thanks to the backlit DS screen as opposed to the frontlit SP screen, they look better than ever. Colors are much brighter.

Fucking awesome. The DS backlighting (particularly on the top screen) makes the GBA SP's uneven front lighting look amateurish by comparison.

Nice. Not to patiently wait till Wario Ware Touched/Twisted come out to pick up the system. Or maybe Yoshi's Touch and Go.

If only Nintendo made a puch out game, with the top screen for the enemy and the lower screen for lil' mac...use the stylus to dodge left and right, and tap to punch. It would be so sick, damn Nintendo for burying such a kickass franchise.

I'm curious as to which game was deemed crappy enough for sacrifice?

masakari densetsu: kintaro action-hen. as obscure and dumb as they come.

I should add that the un-compatibility is doubly obvious when there's no GBC trigger button on the inside of the slot like on a real GBA. AND YES I NOTICED THAT BEFORE CUTTING UP THE CART

Can anyone explain the wireless functions of the DS. Would I be able to puy Mario 64 DS. for example, and play wirelessly with my friend who owns a DS as well? Or do I need to be at a hotspot?

you can't do that, the menu freezes when you yank anything out of the slots.

Me, to Miyamoto: "Please, please make a Punch-Out game for the DS."
(laughter all around the table)
Miyamoto: "We're... working on many different game ideas."

Take from that what you will.

Hmm.
Has anyone tried putting in a GBA cart then AFTER bootup, switching it with a GBC game?

Aside from the fact that GBA doesn't put out enough power to properly work with GBC games normally, I'd assume that Nintendo wouldn't create a system able to play GB/GBC games and then remove the functionality.

The GB/GBC games worked on the GBA because it had a Z80...DS doesn't have it son it's impossible it will run the games unless it emulates them on the ARM7 (there is no ARM9 in GBA mode...).

If you mean long distance, then it's not yet possible, but when it does become possible you need to be at a hotspot. Short distance: Yes, you can play wirelessly and you don't need a hotspot.

Is it possible to shrink the Z80 down so much that it fits into a small adapter?
If so, is it possible to use it through the GBA-slot (sort of like the FX-Chip was used by SNES games) ?

Hmm, I just bought a DS this morning (can't believe I finally found one in stock - they must've gotten new shipments in today), and I got a copy of DW3GBC off ebay... lucky for me I still kept my SP :lol

Probably. The Z80 and other hardware could definitely shrink down to cart form (the CPU is incredibly old), so the real engineering challenge would be converting the voltage.
