Because as much fun as a full HD, 90fps The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask is...with dual analog support and more...wouldn't you want some of the wild fan games and insane mods to come along for the ride?

The LoZ: Majora's Mask recomp (not 2 Ship 2 Harkinian...which is a diff project) just upgraded the build about 24 hours ago allowing for any number of mods, custom textures, etc to be loaded into the game along with some better visuals and other QoL improvements...making this the de facto way IMO to play a Nintendo classic

Curious who on Gaf has checked out the recomp yet?

These games look so weird in high framerate. I saw some clips of the OoT recomp on twitter and it was jarring. I should give them a whirl:

2 Ship already had mod support. So, there are two really good ways to play MM on PC.

I have the 3DS version, never played it though because of the time limit the game gives you but i have the feeling i would like it.

I finished the recomp of Majora's Mask on my Steam Deck and it was so awesome! It has made me go down the rabbit hole playing others. I've finished, Mario 64, Ocarina of Time, and StarFox 64. I'm waiting for Paper Mario…that's the ultimate recomp title for me.

Paper Mario has been decompiled for a couple years now, it's just that nobody's stepped up to the task of making a PC version yet unfortunately

I've spent some time with the OOT decomp but not this one yet.

I'm mainly waiting for someone to add either side-by-side 3D or full VR support... it seems like a straightforward task, but the usual folks (eg Team Beef) won't touch a Nintendo port for fear of retribution.

Until then, I think I'd stick with the 3DS version (playable in Citra VR), stereo just adds so much to this kind of retro game.

Nintendo can def be less than charming

I consider both 3ds ports to be superior.
Yes i know the zora swimming in the 3ds version is different but come on..

The Inverted Song of Time really helps gives you more leeway with the time limit. Although, the 3DS version slows time down by 1/2 rather than the original N64 game's 1/3. Don't ask me why. A lot weird quirks and oddities in the 3DS version.

They should port it to Unreal Engine 5, so I can finally experience how it feels like to play a stuttering Zelda game.

Sometimes people see their own worst enemies. You hear time limit and are scared off, but the reality is that you are given plenty of time to do everything needed to reach and then complete a dungeon in the 3 days given. Between that and the bank for rupees I don't think it's nearly as much of limiting factor as you might assume.

Tl;dr just play it, it's loved for good reason

Whats the diference between this and Ship?
To the end user? Just features.

There is also a video from Nerrel:

The modding system is super cool, basically a real-time drag and drop of files instead of recompiling stuff.

I am not sure how these kind of products developed by hobbyists are not a wake-up call for most Nintendo hardcore fans especially in the wake of a costlier console, higher priced games, and variable cost ($10 or above, it depends) of game Switch 2 patches… and what they gatekeep behind the second tier of the NSO subscription (for N64 games you need the extended NSO pack/tier)… while the community does this, Nintendo goes after emulators.

When will they wake up and offer something like this? When will hardcore fans dare to "demand" this from their benevolent overlords ;)?

It's not real fps boost , it uses matrix interpolation so it looks a bit strange.
What? Of course they are real frames, it uses matrix interpolation to calculate frames between frames in the animations, and it is something that practically all modern engines and games do to adapt the animations to any framerate. What is true is that the game logic works at its original internal framerate, but that has nothing to do with the graphical aspect.

Nintendo is too thick to realize people want more and too litigious to let them have what they want

This is an important video about what is going on with the decomps and recomps. This mod support is much bigger than I thought!
