Should have been one of the worst gimics ever, but dude pulled it off, well heel Doink anyway. Couldn't have been easy being an awesome wrestling clown.
 
Doink was awesome! I remember when he was introduced as some clown that was in the stands week after week interacting with the crowds, then I think he started something with Crush if I remember correctly. Didn't Bryan Adams, the guy that was Crush also die a while back?

So many wrestlers die young...
 
I wonder if the gimmick was his idea, or just crazy Vince.

Regardless he sold it incredibly well. Totally ran with it.
 
I remember back when every crowd in video games was made up of digitized pictures of video game developer nerds.

I remember when they did Jim Ross had his heal turn (when he brought in fake Razor and diesel) he kept going off on McMahon about how bad Doink was and how he was the examle of how bad things got when Jim wasn't booking : (

Pretty sure that guy is Mark Turmell, one of the lead designers for Midway who did the game. Remember that since I used him in NBA JAM as well and was hoping he was a secret character in the Wrestlemania game.

RIP Doink, loved his evil ways and how he messed with Crush back in the day, that was the first feud I remember him and he used the "double doink" power to win at Wrestlemaina ( IX maybe?)

Well 80s era wrestlers (and into the 90s era) had an issue with drugs, the road schedule was tougher, and no time to heal, not to mention downers to go to bed, uppers to wake up. Steroid abuse, Even if its fake, being slammed onto a thick piece of wood covered with fabric still does damage over time.

The lifestyle. Some take drugs to handle the type of work, especially with the bumps. Some get injured enough to where their health has deteriorated. There's also immense stress with the type of work when you add it all up. It's why you have wrestlers dropping off literally from their 20's onwards.
 
OG Doink was fucking great. Once he turned face/got other people than Borne, it was terrible. But Borne was good. His WCW run was whatever, but his Mid South stuff was aces.
