Dolphin - Emulating Wii and Gamecube Games

If anyone's interested in putting together a Sandy Bridge build for emulation, I'd suggest going with an Asus motherboard since the built in Bluetooth module on their P8P67 series works perfectly with Wiimotes. I just grabbed the drivers from their support site under the Bluetooth heading for my model (P8P67 Deluxe) and the Windows 7 stack finds the controller without any incident.

REALLY?
I already have an asus board. im trying to get a Indiana jones to hack my wii. I cant wait.

so my wii is already softmodded, but I hardly play on it anymore. Will the USB loader files work in dolphin as they are? They are in WFDS or whatever that strange format is.

Does pikmin 2 work well? Thats one game I never did finish - I have it on Gamecube and rebought the 'new shit control' version on wii that doesn't let you drop bomb pikmin properly.

I have an ASUS P67 motherboard, so thats good to know :)

AFAIK, Dolphin cannot read WBFS files directly, so you need to convert them to ISO first, using, for example, Wii Backup Manager (here's a guide in case you need it, but it's pretty easy to use).

Awesome post.

Got the Pro version myself because I thought I might be able to use the BT module of the mainboard for dolphin. However I didnt really try yet. However is nice to know that it works perfectly.

standard ASUS P8P67 here - no pro or deluxe. Installed the ASUS drivers and paired the wiimote no problem :)

now need to find out how to tweak. Mario kart looks glorious in 1080p but its a little slow. Pikmin 2 doesn't work at all. Anyone know if the gamecube version might fare better?

Can't get this to work at all, I'm sure I'm doing something wrong :(

Downloaded/installed drivers for my Pro, but I don't know what to do afterwards :P Tried opening the Bluetooth Suite dealie but it didn't open anything. Annoying!

Edit: To specify.. There's no 'bluetooth' icon in my taskbar or in the Device Manager. I've reinstalled the fucking Atheros drivers multiple times as well as all sorts of other ones =p

So, I just found a speed hack for No More Heroes 2 that makes it run pretty much perfectly at 30FPS.

Copy and paste this into the User->GameConfig->REYE41 file

Code:
# RUYE41 - No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle
[Core] Values set here will override the main dolphin settings.
[SpeedHacks]
0x803c09b0=900
0x803c09c0=900
0x803c09b8=900
0x803c0ac4=900
0x803c0a28=900
0x803c0b20=900
0x803c08dc=900
[EmuState] The Emulation State. 1 is worst, 5 is best, 0 is not set.
EmulationIssues =
[OnFrame] Add memory patches to be applied every frame here.
[ActionReplay] Add action replay cheats here.
[Video]

Sorry if this is old!

My only question is, is that (what's quoted) all that's supposed to be listed in the file when I edit it, or do I paste that exactly as it is all after what's already in the file?

Because the GUI consists of 2D elements, and usually just textures and not vectors. There is a fixed amount of pixels in those, and rendering at a higher resolution won't change that amount.

The Wii actually has a surprisingly large number of games with high-res GUI elements (made for at least 720p), a fact that continues to be subject of "WiiHD" speculation.
Don't know much at all about this subject, but could that just be multiplatform games ported to Wii where the devs never bothered to downscale that element?

Hate to just jump into this thread and ask a question, but I have a 2009 MBP before the i5, i7 revision.

My specs are as follows: 2.8 GHz Core 2 Duo, 8GB RAM, 9600M GT 512MB card, and Windows 7.

Do y'all think these specs are admirable enough to get decent (if not good) performance out of Dolphin on my Windows partition?

In general from what I've heard you are looking at 3.6Ghz + but I'm sure there are some titles that will run fine.

I'm sure someone here or on dolphin (check their forums for specs per game or something) can give you a much better answer.

I downloaded that big 300MB package, installed it, then I went to control panel - Hardware - add/find new hardware (I think). That displayed a window which had my mobile phone in (BT) and then I pressed 1&2 on the wiimote until all four blue lights flashed to show it was in pair mode. It then appeared in the window and I double clicked on it and it set it up.

Running dolphin I think I had to then go to the wiimote part and click 'pair' for it to pick it up in there.

I now need a wireless sensor bar, but I need to get the performance sorted first.

Is the Bluetooth Support Service running? Setting it to automatic usually helps.

Did you install the drivers inside the "Win7" folder (the driver package has multiple AsusSetup.exes)?

It's really weird that you're not getting anything in the Device Manager since the driver package should cause a bunch of new entries under BT Radios, Network Adapters, and Ports (COM) to show up. I know you're probably sick of reinstalling but... I'd suggest uninstalling any BT related drivers/software that did take and running AsusSetup.exe again. And make sure it really does complete the install - it did hang for me at 99% at "installing the BT Suite" but finished eventually (with a few "hardware found" notifications at the verrrry end).

Services are running yep.
I'm trying to do the W7 drivers also, correct

When its installing the suite though and the New Hardware popup in the tray comes, it's saying it's installing Motionjoy virtual Xinput and 3x USB input devices o.O

I uninstalled motionjoy just in case and it did the same thing. The file is the Atheros_AW_AR3011_Bluetooth_Driver though, yeesh. (Same thing when I tried to install off the P8P67 dvd)

I'm pretty techie, but this is baffling me :lol

Yeah I've tried the Add a Device and syncing the wiimote, but I believe I need to have the mobo at least showing the bluetooth drivers in device manager/etc first, ahh >.<

Retro pixel DK looks awesome, now I kinda want to see everything in the game rendered like that. :lol
you're in luck: play it on your wii and it will all be rendered like that; their models are just being rendered at 480p there.

here (downscaled to 640x480, then re-stretched to 853x480 to compensate for anamorphic widescreen):

Hah! Got it to work!

Even though I had uninstalled Motionjoy, I had to go into Device Manager and manually uninstall more of its drivers there. Then Bluetooth suite installed correctly :)

Paired up to Dolphin too, now to figure out how to get the pointer working whee

Ahhh, so it was Motioninjoy interfering. I just looked up their installation instructions and yeah, apparently their DS3/Sixaxis over Bluetooth support overrides any other BT drivers.

Excellent, so now we've got confirmation that Wiimotes can pair with the modules on the P8P67 vanilla, Pro, and Deluxe. =D

EDIT: Some screens for the hell of it... Zack & Wiki and Lost in Shadow.

How does Lost in Shadows run for you?
No problems at all with game speed, unfortunately the shadows have been very finicky. =|

lqNSB.jpg

OpenGL or D3D9 without Copy to Texture works everywhere, but is pixelly/blurry.

A0yjh.jpg

Copy to Texture or D3D11 is smooth but doesn't display everything properly.

G0HAZ.jpg

Freak accident of D3D11 working in one area (same as the screens I posted earlier).

I've tried a few different SVNs and results have been similar across the board. I kind of wish I hadn't run across that area where D3D11 worked properly, because now I really don't want to go back to playing it with low-res shadows, heh.

Copy and paste it over everything up until it says [Video]. Leave everything after that alone.

got my dolphin and softmodded my wii. Ripped tenchu.
Will try and get farther in the game but i need to get my wiimote working first. keyboard and mouse is hard.

How can one move a Wii save file to use it on Dolphin? Forgot to say I'm asking about those protected files like Smash Bros.

Does anyone have any shots of Disaster: Day of Crisis? Ive never seen any around and I thought it might be cos of how its a bit of a lesser known title, what with not having a US release. Ive been replaying it the past few days and I'd love to see how good it looks emu'd

So I used Save Game Manager to copy the locked Smash Bros save file from my Wii but can't import it to Dolphin like other non blocked saves. Anyone know how to get it to work?

I've been doing some for NMH2 in the High Res thread, but not everyone checks it out, so I'll share a couple.

It really seems like this game was made for a system much stronger than the Wii.

How does this computer specs sound for Dolphin:

CoreTM i5 650 (3.2GHz/4MB cache)
6GB4 DDR3 SDRAM at 1333MHz
1000 GB SATA Hard drive
1024 (MB) ATI HD5450 RadeonTM

and some gaming no crysis/fpses mostly Trackmania/Transformers Cybertron/etc?

Should be fine for maxing out any modern game.
Dolphin is a bit trickier, but your rig seems better than mine and I can get good FPS in most games.

This sounds good. :) Just wondering what's your FPS, 30 to 60 FPS???... Its on sale for 650 dollars right now.

Incorrect. A 5450 will do pretty damn poorly if it tries maxing out a lot of (any?) modern games. Not sure how it would perform in Dolphin. Should suffice, but I don't know how many bells and whistles it could handle.

Hell, he'd be lucky to play most games on low.
