Dolphin - Emulating Wii and Gamecube Games

Sorry for the late response but the DS3 is configured with Dolphin and good to go. Just want to know how I can get some Gamecube games to run in widescreen and how fix some minimal choppy sound.

If the game already supports widescreen, select it in there and set aspect ratio to Force 16:9 in the config. If you want to use the Widescreen Hack to force it into any other game, check the box and select Force 16:9. The options might be located in different areas of the graphics config based on the build you're on.

Sound issues are mostly just specifically game related, I almost never bother messing with them unless it's needed for the game to boot.

Alright, I know nothing about this, just have a quick question.

Bought a new laptop recently, and I'm thinking about replaying some Wii games.

I'm gonna replay Twilight Princess soon, so what do I need to play it using Dolphin? Especially to connect my Wiimote to my computer yadda yadda.

Is there a Begginer's FAQ somewhere?

My HP DV6 is a quad core i7, does that work fine with Dolphin?

Most importantly, you need your Wii homebrewed and the game backed up onto a storage device to then transfer onto your computer. Here's the thread for more on homebrew.

As far as hardware, to connect your Wiimote at the very least you'll need a bluetooth adaptor (unless your laptop has bluetooth built in). This is the exact one I use. With that you'll want a sensor bar for the pointer to be used. Here's mine.

The first post of this thread sums it up pretty succinctly though, there isn't much in the way of actually setting up the emulator itself.

Yep, your laptop will be fine.

So I just remembered that my motherboard actually has bluetooth built-in.

I'm looking for a wireless sensor bar, and there seem to be a few options.

Does anyone know how good the Nyko one is? It's the cheapest that I can find and it has decent enough reviews on Amazon.

I can't seem to record at 60fps with Fraps without framerate drops. I have a i7 920 at the same clock speeds as you and yet at 720p I never get 60fps. Please tell me how do you manage such good performance while recording...

Edit: I mean in Dolphin of course, in SSX3. I'd love to record some footage.

May just be the result of having an oudated version of Fraps or using an older build of Dolphin. I'm up to date on Fraps and the build I'm at is r7590. Nothing in particular in my exact config. In general I usually just keep Enable Dual Core and Idle Skipping checked.

Using D3D11 with all the boxes checked under the Enhancements tab. 2x internal resolution, no aa (usually gets lost at the sub HD resolutions anyway). Under the Hacks tab, both Embedded Frame Buffer boxes at the top checked. EFB Copies to Textures and External Frame Buffer to Disable.

It could also just be the level chosen, I get iffier frame rates in some compared to others.

It's fine. Buy without worry.

Oh my god guys!
I saw this thread and decided to run some stuff in Dolphin again. I decided to try and get my bluetooth thing working because it's never worked on the computer (works on laptop). So I plug it in, expecting it to find it and think its something else again and go through hoops trying to get bluetooth drivers working but no. It's just installs. Perfectly fine. Just like on my laptop. It's a miracle.
Might have something to do with my mouse? It's been on the fritz today, randomly connecting/disconnecting for no reason. No software changes as far as I know either. It's a wired USB one. Just started acting up today. I tried it on my laptop and it didn't mess up (but I didn't try it with games). I dunno. I'm just happy I can finally use dolphin to play my Wii games that need the sensor bar/pointing.

Game freezes when I approach the yellow square platform on the right side, anyone with the same issue?[/QUOTE]
I think you are better of just playing the legit PC version of RE4, its got a mod community like oblivion, and its got all the extra content form the PS2 edition that the GCN one lacks.

Searching the emulator forums apparently "use JITIL." solves it. As to what JITIL is, I do not know.

Edit: going through that thread, also Leon can stand on the left platform without crashing. it means getting Ashley to walk onto the right one (without Leon doing so) then getting her to stay.

Its an old bug (last August as least). Making me dread Baten Kaitos as apparently the next boss I face crashes with "BackPatch - no support for operand size 1"

Couldn't wait to play Pikmin 2 again in HD and 16:9, but I'm having a huge problem. Whenever I load up Pikmin 2 it stalls and the red and black Nintendo logo in the beginning. Anyone know how to fix this problem?

Try a different recent revision

Compatibility Guide says it freezes with R7310, but people using other revisions say it works perfectly

Well I got through with no crash. So a few screens in JPEG format quality 70 (I'm wondering if I've set some bilinear filter function or something as the 2D seems a bit good in places but then bad in others):
GKBEAF-27.jpg

GKBEAF-33.jpg

I never noticed the BGs were drawn, I always assumed it was awesome GCI (moving parts seem to be CGI though). Generally though. If EFB copy to ram is off its very stable but dialogue boxes/menu background are messed up as are some special effects in battle (freezing enemies). If its on then you tend to get crashes on post battle loot or trying to sell photos, also chugs when looking at them. I found it seemed to get worse and worse until I rebooted. This what I mean by "messed up":
GKBEAF-1.jpg

So perfectly playable. There is also the layering issue I showed in an earlier post.

Just noticed the height on the screenshots isn't the resolution I set in the emulator (960). Maybe the game doesn't render around CRT TV overscan area or something.

Is there a recommended specs list anywhere? I have an e6550 (2.3GHz), 4GB of ram and a crappy passive video card. I just wanna play a sexy version of Twilight Princess :(

Wind Waker looks so damn pretty in hi-res. It's aged as well as any game I've seen and looks a hell of a lot more impressive than Twilight Princess.

edit: Also, is that Hyrule field bug still apparent in the latest version of Dolphin? Also, how bad is it?

So guys does anyone plan on playing Skyward Sword on Dolphin.
I have a i5 2.7 R5870 and 8gb ram. Do I have a chance to play it in 720p, of course I'm sure I'll have to wait a little after launch for ppl to figure it out.

All I could think about while watching the trailer. Might pick up a Wii Remote Plus to try and avoid MotionPlus bugs that pop up pretty often. Hopefully they try and improve its stability by the time it comes out.

OT: Wow...I'm finally activated, this is my first post ever, created my account last November 28, 2010, so I can partake in some great Dolphin discussions in this thread. And now more than 7 months later, I've lost my momentum. LOL

On topic, has anyone tried to use Dolphin with an Alienware m11x? My AW will be arriving soon, and I'm curious if people have tried playing with that. I kinda already know the answer, most likely will be unplayable due to the weak CPU, but am curious nonetheless. Maybe some games would play better than others?

Pose Mii Plus
Veggie Guardin'
Cone Zone

Wii Play: Motion works fine. Disappearing Mii faces still a bug but motionplus was a lot more stable than I remember.

Games like Mario Galaxy maybe not so much, but my lower spec laptop can run games like NSMB and Kirby's Epic Yarn full speed no problem.

Hey guys, I see that some of you are playing Mario sunshine, is this game working 100%? Because I remember trying to play it about 6-8 months ago and it was missing textures and the water looked very strange indeed. Also if it is, will this rig be able to run it perfectly with everything on full (1080p, 16x anti-aliasing and 16x ans tropic filtering).

My Rig:
I7 920 OC to (4.2 Ghz)
Ati Radeon 5850
Velociraptor Hard drive
(If theres anything else that you need to know, just tell me)

Edit: Also wow at the mario sports mix screenshots, looks amazing.

What kind of setup do I need to run Dolphin at its best settings? I am looking to dump some cash on a new PC with media center functionality, would love to run this emulator on a large HDTV. Suggestions, for what other hardware would be needed to use the Wiimote and such would be greatly appreciated.

FYI all, Dolphin v3.0 has been released!
Straight from the horses's mouth:

Dolphin 3.0 Release Announcement

Yep, we really did it. Finally, after 20 days of string freeze and almost 3 months of feature freeze (totally worth it), we're officially declaring Dolphin "it must new" 3.0 as released!

So, what's actually new in this release?
Tons of bug fixes: This totally deserves to be a major point for this release. There's been roughly 2500 commits between 2.0 and this release, so there are REALLY too many changes to mention. All kinds of stuff from strange UI behavior, crashes, graphical glitches and other sorts of problems were fixed. For example, many games which didn't boot at all in Dolphin are working fine now.
Improvements to the user interface: The configuration dialogs were restructured in a more sensible manner to ease emulator usage for new users. The video config dialog received a complete overhaul and features a description panel for each option now.
Various feature additions: This release also features support for the Wiimote speaker, EFB format change emulation, a gfx debugger, audio dumping, and many other stuff
Low level DSP emulation: Thanks to numerous fixes to the LLE emulator engine, audio emulation in Dolphin is close to perfect now (provided that one has the necessary DSP dumps of course)
New API support: Added a D3D11 video backend and an XAudio2 audio backend
Removal of the plugin interface: The 2.0 release already had seen the introduction of plugin rewrites; the new plugins have been brought to feature parity and replaced them so well, that we decided to merge all plugins the Core. Further improvements are better suited as additions in the current infrastructure since this architecture allows for a much better integration with the other parts of Dolphin.
Translation support: Recently we introduced supporting for translating Dolphin into any language. However, due to a lack of well-done translations it was decided to only ship a set of eight translations (Arabic, Brazilian Portuguese, French, Greek, Hungarian, Portuguese, Spanish, Turkish) with Dolphin 3.0.
Performance/Accuracy: There have been some performance optimizations (especially in the texture decoder), but generally speaking performance decreased in favor of more accurate hardware emulation.
Building Dolphin: The Windows build uses MSVC 2010 now, Linux users should use the new CMake build system. OS X people still compile Dolphin via SCons.

As (something like) the release manager for 3.0, I'm proud of this release. It's a lot more polished compared to 2.0 (especially the user interface) and should suffer from much fewer bugs. However, we of course still have a lot room for improvement, and for sure will further work on getting closer to perfect Gamecube/Wii/Triforce emulation

To bring things to a close, thanks again to everyone who helped at making this release possible and to everybody who anticipated this release!

This is very much an easier emulator to use overall compared to PCSX 2, so long as you have the horsepower to run games 60fps.

I think I played it on a very old and on a very recent build, plays very smooth for me.

No problem whatsoever. 1080p, 16x AF and 4x AA is the way to go.

Does anybody know if you can use Nvidia Inspector to force SGSSAA and/or SSAO in Wii games? If you can, then what are the flags? Would be pretty cool if you could at least force SSAO.

Ha. I was about to ask if 4GHz i7s were still necessary for flawless performance. Haven't followed this in a long time. I guess this i5@3.5GHz is going to last me a long time.
