Dolphin - Emulating Wii and Gamecube Games

aaaaahhhh you're doing it again :(

Change your fraps settings to have the overlay off on screenshots and switch it to png or bmp, then convert it back to jpg at least 90% quality settings.

DEAR Nintendo.

Please see what your games look like without jaggies and with a bit more resolution.

Do it Nintendo. it makes a really big difference..

Kill jaggies. Don't save money on Anti Aliassing.

If they'd show something like that for the Wii U everyone would come and scream 'NEXT-GEN IS HERE' unknown about the fact that the Wii can do this and is doing this. It's ridiculous. Beautiful, beautiful game.

Also, if there is going to be such a graphics boost with the Wii U, I cannot even imagine how good the game will look without immediately dirtying my pants.

i got my new i5-2500k build (with 6870) ready
ripping games right now
gonna find a way to transfer my saves from wii to dolphin and i'm all set

At this resolution, Galaxy 2 is officially the most beautiful game I've ever seen. God damn.

I know; I made a stupid mistake. I deserve the lolz. Don't drink and type, y'all. I really did misunderstand the whole issue of emulation. The articles on 1up piqued my interest. Should have actually done the reading bit.
Mission accomplished.

I downloaded the Wind Waker hi-res texture pack a few weeks ago but either forgot to install it or didn't put it in the right place. Makes a huge difference with the HUD, judging by those screens.

yeah it really does. I am running on DX11 which fixes a few issues well.

But the Wii is not in any way doing this. There is a massive difference between rendering an image at 480p versus 1080p, all those extra pixels would melt your Wii's GPU. This isn't the difference between having the right cables to output a signal or the correct display, this is the difference between hardware being able to render a significantly higher amount of pixels per frame.

Mario Galaxy 1+2 look amazing because of their art style and choices in what to focus the hardware on effect wise. Its really simple and attractive, and scales up really well with the proper hardware.

I would love an HD Wii system, but Nintendo would never go through with it because of the insane task of updating any 2D assets that cannot be scaled up in resolution. If part of the game has to look like crap, it really isn't worth the effort to make some if it look attractive apparently.

Every time I revisit this thread, I come to the same conclusion: I sure do wish the HUDs didn't look so crappy on top of the beautifully rendered games.

Is there anyone working to correct the aspect ratio of the HUD in Wind Waker? The game makes me smile, but the HUD makes me frown. It isn't a pretty face that I make.

WTF are you talking about? Every single detail you see in those screens is being processed by the Wii, you just can't see the details as well on actual hardware due to the low rendering resolution. And that number of pixels wouldn't melt the Wii's GPU, the Wii's pixel fillrate is 948 million pixels per second, which is more than enough to display HD content. (The original Xbox had a similar fillrate and had games which ran at 720p and 1080i.) Its problem is it only has 2MB of VRAM, which is too small to hold a 1280x720 frame buffer.

Now that game specific plugin settings are gone with the latest revisions, how do I go about changing efb to texture and efb to ram settings per game? I remember seeing a checkbox option for it when looking at a game's properties window but now can't find the option anymore. I figured I'd edit the game config and add an option like:

EFBCopyRAMEnable = False

This works for some games, but for others, the game either ignores the setting or deletes it right after I save the text file. I'm trying to get metroid other m to work with it by the way. A lot of games work fine with efb copy to ram, but metroid is just slow as heck with it

Pretty sure it's this fellow

Edit: Oops, you meant per game. I gots no ideas!

SMG really looks great with AA but is it playable? Going to be building a new PC fairly soon and this would be a nice extra.

For comparison's sake, Sonic Adventure 2 running in the current release of NullDC (1.0.4)

Is NullDC still the best Dreamcast emulator out there and do you know if it is still in development? I was wondering because I really want to replay Shenmue 2 in 1080p. Last time I tried it was terrible there was bad pop-up and characters include Ryo were missing geometry in their faces.

It is playable but the music cuts out 5 mins into playing. Also to get it to run at full speed 60fps you need a really good CPU like a i5 2500k or i7 2600k which you then have to overclock to over 4Ghz.

Use LLE and I'm sure sound won't be an issue. Does add a bit more strain to your hardware but an oc'ed 2500k or better should still do the trick

Building a new PC with these specs:

CPU: Intel Core i7 Processor i7-2600 3.4GHz 8MB LGA1155
GFX: EVGA nVidia GeForce GTX570 1280MB DDR5 2DVI/HDMI/DisplayPort PCI-Express Video Card
RAM: Kingston KVR1333D3N9K2/8G DDR3-1333 8GB (2x4GB)

If Im not overclocking (can't on the Shuttle mobo I'm using), can I max out most of my GCN and Wii games with Dolphin?

Some of my discs are PAL too - does this mean they won't run (50Hz only)?

It'd only mean they would cap out at 50fp when going at 100% speed. A number of games don't go past 30fps either way so ymmv. And yes your system is more than capable.

Wow, is this only a recent thing or has it been like this a while? I played it about a month ago and the music still cut out although I never tried LLE just HLE. Cheers for the heads up going to play some later to see what sort of performance I get.

Can anyone recommend a Bluetooth adapter that will work nicely with windows 7? I tried reading that wiki and got so confused...

Is there a noticeable difference between loading the actual disk or having it read from an image file?

I've been wanting to replay Twilight Princess like this, but the disc is scratched to hell.

anyone have a asus g73? i need some help overclocking it

problem is that it most likely has a i7 720QM processor which downclocks as low as 1.6ghz if all cores are active and the graphics is on the low side. It will be playable but not ideal.

Yeah I have a laptop with the i7 720QM and it doesn't too very well with Dolphin. It has a pretty good graphics card too, but games only run smoothly at lower resolutions.

I can't seem to be able to get Mario Sunshine to play widescreen, anybody know why? Also If anybody has a link for a gamepad for wiimote config that would be amazing. I can't seem to be able to figure it out.

The render cull is really screwy with that game and some things won't render if they are out of the 4:3 area so you shouldn't really use it anyways.

Man, if the Wii had anti-aliasing all would be forgiven...

To be fair, none of the current gen systems excelled in the manner of "real" antialiasing (not some tiled garbage or smudge filters). My guess is that next gen, that feature will be just as overlooked in favour of more shiny.

What game is this :) ?

People should start posting game names when they do screenshots ;)!
It's Earth Seeker, some kind of Monster Hunter style game with a party based battle system that reminds of Parasite Eve or Vagrant Story (move around freely, pause while selecting attacks and such for your party to do) by ex-Capcom dudes Crafts & Meister. The setting is cool. BlackBeetleKing, care to post any photos of nice art from the manual?

What, you're not convinced that he's one of the five people who bought the game?

You can just switch to 4:3 ratio though the hud will suck even then. Fortunately though for Wind Waker and some other games HD textures have been made that solve this issue, this is a shot i just took from the Wind Waker for example:
xAu6v.png

These can usually be found floating around the Dolphin forums though for the Wind Waker this is the link
Edit: It's still not perfect though, doesn't do the menus and item icons etc, wonder if anyone will do a full one eventually.
Edit2: Actually this is still a bit wrong aspect ratio wise... Oh well, wanted an excuse to post this pic anyway...
