Dolphin - Emulating Wii and Gamecube Games

So I FINALLY found the perfect Dolphin build for Xenoblade.

It's Filthy's 3.0-96 ICC build. It's the ONLY build I've tried that doesn't have any slowdown, even in huge battles where you're using effect-heavy skills left and right, at 4x resolution and 8x AF. I've tried like 5 other builds and they all have slowdown down to 22-25 fps in those battles (I'm on a i5 2500k @ 4.5 GHz and a GTX 560 Ti). So if you want a 30 fps Xenoblade experience 100% of the time, this is the only way you're going to get it. Strangely enough the only person I've seen recommending it is this one guy.

I assume you're using the build with Mylek's patch?

Is there a 32 bit version of it? Or another 32 bit similar build for Xenoblade..

Well, to be exact, I have an ATI Radeon HD 3850 graphics card. It must have been cheap when I got my parts I guess.

Yeah, I'm only "overreacting" about it because you want to emulate. I'm sure it plays most modern games at low-medium settings with good framerate.

You'll want to upgrade. You can get a card that will last a while for around 170-200 (6800 series) or a 5000 series for less.

AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 965, 3.4 GHz

I have a slightly lesser processor (Phenom II x4 945) OC'd to 3.6. Paired with a 4870 and it can run xenoblade (euro version, 25fps) fine. Not sure if the graphics card will hold you back, but you might as well try it. Its pretty easy to try if you can rip your wii games.

Screenshot requests might be frowned upon here, but as someone utterly incapable of running Dolphin at the moment, I was wondering if there were any shots of the sky world at night in Skyward Sword? That was some pretty breathtaking scenery in my opinion, much like the night sequences in TWW.

What kind of shots are you looking for? I did some random ones to see how they'd turn out.

That weird ghosting effect around Link (and some other characters/objects) isn't there during the daytime. I wonder if I have some setting wrong...

I was looking for something scenic like an overlook of the torch-lit Skyloft or the sea of clouds. From what I can gather from earlier in the thread, the double-imaging is a frequent issue with Dolphin running Skyward Sword, I think. I dunno.

But yes, those screencaps are quite lovely. Thank you! :D

What kind of performance can I expect using the following PC:

Intel i7 920 @ 3.8GHZ
EVGA 570GTX
6GB Corsair Dominator RAM
Intel 80GB RAID 0'd SSD's (do this even matter?)

I'd love to play Xenoblade at 1920x1080 with 8xSSAA and 16xAF (saw a youtube video and it looked godly).

I have a 2500k @4.5 GHz and I play at 4x internal resolution (2560x2112) downscaled to 1080p. Don't use AA though, but it doesn't really need it at that point. To get constant 30 fps there is only one build I found that doesn't get framedrops though, just look a few posts up.

Ledsen, I've had issues with Xenoblade until that build you mentioned. Played it all afternoon running at a constant 30. I even tried my hardest to make it drop in Makna Forest with those things spinning about going mental with lightning but it just doesnt.

Bravo on the link, I'd stopped playing due to the older builds having slowdown issues when things got busy so this build is perfect for me so far!

Christ, why haven't I tried this earlier. Just got Xenoblade up and running at near constant 30FPS using a 360 gamepad.

My game doesn't look as good as some of the video's I've seen up on youtube. Anyone mind sharing some of their configs for Xenoblade?

Did you also snag the high res texture pack?

Just some clarification: what do you need the nyko sensor bar for exactly, and is there any way to use the wired one I have with my wii?

You need to have your Wii on to power your wired sensor bar. They couldn't just make it work with USB. >_<

So I'd have to plug in my wii in my room, have the sensor bar near my PC monitor and it'd work for games played on dolphin?

My head has trouble wrapping itself around that idea.

Glad i could help :)

So everything went smoothly until I tried out CFG USB loader. Cannot get it to work. It tells me the hard drive is not responding and then just has that retry: 1 thing there. As far as I can tell I followed all the instructions.

What I want to do is rip my copy of Xenoblade and play it with Dolphin. Is there a better way to do it?

OMFG...those Xenoblade screenshots are AMAZING. Where's the kitten? ;)

so I wanted to buy a Wii and "swim with the Dolphins", what can I expect out of this:

Core 2 Duo E6600 OCd from 2.4 to 3.2GHz
8GB DDR2 RAM
Radeon 6950 2GB

Did you put the HDD in the right USB port on the Wii?

Well, you'll be fine on most Gamecube games, and the GPU should be more than enough to handle some supersampling. I don't think the CPU is good enough to handle more the demanding games, though.

I fully completed the PAL Xenoblade on Dolphin last year with:

Core 2 Duo E4500 @ 3.3GHz
4GB DDR2 RAM
8800GT 512MB

I did use a special Dolphin build that uses HLE audio and my frame rate stayed at 25FPS 95% of the time, only dropping below when there are huge amounts of special effects on-screen. I played at 4x native res with no AA and 16x AF in D3D9 mode.

thanks for your replies.
I don't think I'll be getting a better CPU. This is after all my primary gaming machine and since the GPU upgrade last fall, it "eats" everything I give him (The Witcher 2 EE currently) Sure, a Q9550 or Q9650 would be ideal (3GHz, 4 cores) but I don't think I'll make that investment just to "try out" the Dolphin.

Try restarting your Wii with everything plugged in.

No luck with that either.

It's weird, on the HBC I can press 1 and the usb button is selectable, so that must mean it knows a drive is there, right? It just seems to be CFG that is causing a problem.

Is there another loader I could try?

Keep in mind that it's not just CPU speed, but also architecture. Moving from Core to Nehalem to Sandy Bridge will net you gains beyond clock speed/core increases alone. If you ever intend to upgrade your CPU in the future, keep that in mind.

Do you have CFG set to use the correct file system? I can't remember if you do anything special to read NTFS vs FAT32, but I think you have to edit the config file if you want to rip to NTFS.

You can also try ripping to a USB Flash Drive if you have one big enough.

Also, try CleanRip if you are just trying to get ISO files for Dolphin.

Trying out CleanRip now, if this works I will happily fellate you.

EDIT: So I got an iso, loaded it up with dolphin. It goes from a white screen then after a few seconds to a black screen. Anything obvious I've missed?

Just built a new PC, and I downloaded Dolphin, but I am getting this error:

The program can't start because VCOMP100.DLL is missing from your computer.

edit: Nevermind just figured it out.

YES.

How do you do the free look thing in Dolphin?[/QUOTE]

In the version of Dolphin I'm using, you go to Graphics Configuration and click the Advanced tab. Under the Utility section, there is a box to check called Free Look.

Dolphin explains the camera controls while are you hovering over the box.
