Dolphin - Emulating Wii and Gamecube Games

Playable but slow as dogtits in some sections

Do I have to overclock my Sandy again so that cutscenes don't dip into the mid teens? I recently ripped and started TLS but everyone starts talking slow and drunk when there is any cutscene/dialog :lol

What is your CPU model and what is it clocked at atm?

I've beaten The Last Story ages ago without any problems. Full speed most of the time with a 2500K @ 4.5GHz.

Dolphin certainly shows everybody how much Nintendo has been short-changing their artists by being tight-asses with the hardware.

I was playing Xenoblade Chronicles and the jump from Wii to Dolphin was staggering. It was just so much smoother and cleaner. Super Mario Galaxy was even better but I need a better computer because it chugs a bit.

2600k @ stock (put it back as nothing other than Dolphin stresses it and I use that PC mostly as an HTPC which a 4.5ghz clock makes louder). I recently ripped this and started it and found it was smooth except for everytime they had conversations/cutscenes.

Are you referring to this?

Nooooo. At the beginning of the credits you see the logo "Project Sonic Colors", here's the one with the "u":

I want it without the "u", as it would be in the NA and JP version.

You use the texture dump option to get it.

That's just the thing.

I have a i5 3750k @ 4.2 (could go to 4.5 if i increased vcore but effort) and yeah most of the time it's full speed.

Except when it's not.

In cutscenes, in the main city, in some level. If this was just a drop from 60-30fps I wouldn't complain too much, but no it's a drop from 100% speed to 50% speed or sometimes 40% speed, and it happens too frequently for my patience to allow. If this was a long game like Xenoblade, it'd go right in the trash. I mean I guess I could play it on my wii, but that got stolen out of my apartment.

That sounds wrong. What build and settings were you using? You shouldn't drop THAT low.
You'd have a worse experience on the Wii since it lags pretty hard on the console and the IQ is horrible.

Anyway, Dolphin (ex)developer Delroth has posted an article for why Dolphin won't use asynchronous audio processing anymore. This means (as you already know) that you need to have and maintain a 100% speed in all your games for the audio to play correctly.

The latest builds, or any builds. I had to seriously cherry pick my settings to get the most speed, because cutscenes would usually be slow, and IR on 4x or 1x would make not even one bit of difference.

O M G.
Finally received my GC/usb adaptater and hdmi cable to hook up my computer to my tv. Finished F-Zero GX AX cup in master first like old times but in 1080p. My life is complete, I don't need anything else as a gamer, fuck next gen, fuck every thing else. I'm so happy.

Nice one. :)

So I started making a new script to automate improving the backgrounds for REmake in Dolphin. I'd like to hear what some others opinions are on the results.

It's a GIF so the quality isn't perfect, so here's two actual images.

Just a small sample, any thoughts?

Also, here's a dumb GIF.

Alo81:

Looks great! , how far are you from a complete release?

Very, very far. Right now it's really just someone mentioned that REmake looks bad on 1080p displays and I wanted to see if I could make it look better.

Basically, as it is, in order to do a complete release I'll have to play through the entire game and see every room from every angle while dumping the games textures. Because the process of improving the backgrounds is automated, then I could just feed all of the backgrounds through the process and it should be complete.

I'm not quite sure if I plan to play through the entire game though, so I don't quite expect to do a full release unless either I do end up playing the whole game or someone else does and sends me all the dumped textures.

So, I guess we'll see how captivating the game is for me then I'll let you know!

Alright, one more test example before I'm done for the night. I'd appreciate thoughts again on this alternative method.

The examples above are 2x the size of the original image at 1024 pixels wide.

These new ones are 1440 pixels wide, what you would get if you were playing the game in 1080p 4:3.

Here's a GIF example (Again, not a perfect representation but it does show the sharpness difference.)

is it possibel to play galaxy without a wiimote?

Thank you gumby_trucker for giving me the files. Here is a Rapidshare Link for anyone else in my position.

Hi Guys... Is there a particular version of Dolphin you need to get the WWaker textures to load properly? I'm using 3.5 with textures set to safe, but only some of the textures are loading.

I'm using the pack in the link above, if there a newer pack can someone link me to it please? I check Hypatia's blog almost daily but the links are down over there.

Real nice work. This needs to be done so badly for RE2 and RE3 on Dolphin, but from what I understand it's trickier because the pre-rendered backgrounds are made up of different images at different sizes. So when you add sharpening in the Dolphin settings you get a bunch of weird grid lines that are trying to scale up different pieces of the background. But without sharpening turned on it looks really bad unfortunately.

It is, I play with a 360 controller.

thats good to know. ill have borrow my bros copies of galaxy to test them out

also, is there a way to fix the audio of some games? gotcha forces music is incredibly distorted..

Is there any way to remove the hud in sunshine? Yes I 'm aware that HD hud thingi but I would prefer if I can remove the hud entirely like WW.

I dunno about that WW texture pack, but generally it's preferable that you use an x86 build and DX9 when using costume textures, some texture packs just don't play nice with DX11 for some reason.

Adjust the slider. If it doesn't load the textures on safe then tick it over one to the right. If it's still not loading them then tick it over one more to the right. One of those options should work.

You could just replace the HUD textures with transparent textures.

That may be where I'm going wrong then, because I'm using V3.5 X64 build and I still can't get the majority of the textures to load. I think I will just wait until Hypatia releases a new pack, with hopefully detailed instructions on loading it.

Don't get me wrong the game still looks beautiful at 3xIR and just the HD Hud pack installed. :-)

Hi guys, I want to upgrade my rig to try some of the Dolphin goodness you post in this thread.

I want to buy a Phenom II X4 965 Black Ed 3.4GHz and a Radeon HD 7750, I also have 4GB of RAM. Will this PC run Dolphin at least at 720p and with native framerate?

I'm not sure about the graphics-card but this CPU should run most Wii games well aside from Super Mario Galaxy and other games that push the Wii to the limit, Intel is really the best bet here :/

VVV Psst hey duder - try this! VVV

I use x64 builds and have no problems with textures after adjusting the slider around to see what makes it stick.

Looks like NNEDI filter, is that what you've been using. Looks pretty nice

I had no idea what a NNEDI filter was so no not what I'm using lol.

I've been enlarging the image to 8x its normal size, applying a facet filter, sharpening, adding a smidge of grain so things don't look so gooey, then cutting the size down to 1440 width (the width it would be if rendering in 1080p 4:3) and depending on if it looks like it needs it, adding a slight bit of sharpening again.

Any way to play Viewtiful Joe 1 and 2 in widescreen using Dolphin?

Surely yes, just activate and use a Hack WideScreen 16.9 native resolution 720p or 1080p.
Works in any game that has no native option to choose between 4.3 and 16.9

Many games like Soul Calibur 2, F-Zero GX among others natively have the option to change the aspect ratio,
in these cases it is best not to activate the hack might present image errors.

Is anyone able to run F-zero properly at a consistent frame rate? I'm using a 2500k at 4.8ghz and the frame rate is all over the place. As low as 30 and as high as 150 fps.

Guys, need a little help. I'll be getting a high-end PC in a few months, so I'm planning on leaving most of the Wii games I own but have yet to play for later, when I do have it. I need your help, though, I'm going to list the games in question and it'd be awesome if you guys could let me know in case any of them runs badly on the Dolphin so I can play them now, before I give my Wii to my younger brother.

The Last Story.
Project Zero/Fatal Frame 2.
Skyward Sword.
Silent Hill: Shattered Memories.
Little King's Story.
Xenoblade.

Does any of them run poorly on Dolphin? If so, let me know. =P

Welp I can't speak for all of them but for what little I've played of Skyward Sword on dolphin, it runs perfectly.
Also just received my copy of the Last Story today, ripped it and played 3-4 hours. Had to do some fiddlings in the settings for this one but now it seems to run almost perfectly too, though I have to use HLE for sounds, so sometimes it fucks up and there's a sound loop for some seconds. It always go away after a while but that's that or a big fps drop with LLE. I'm still enjoying it quite a lot :)
I still have to get my hands on Xenoblade !

I have a 955, Radeon 5770 and 4 GB of RAM. Some games run perfectly (Two Zeldas, the Kirby games, RE 4). Some are around 20 FPS (DKCR, Metroid Primes) I think a faster CPU would help.

Hey Emulating thread, I have a question.

I'm currently running Smash Bros Brawl at beautiful settings - 1080, 60 frames stable, all that jazz. There's just one thing bothering me. There is a slight sound delay. It's noticeable on the menu - normally moving the cursor will produce a snappy, quick sound (on the Wii) whereas on my emulator there is a delay and the sound will occur later.

Any ideas? I'm running the game at full speed , so reducing settings (like running at a smaller resolution) doesn't seem to help. I'm running Dolphin 3.5-1552 because that's the latest version that specifically fixed a Smash Bros Problem.

I've toyed around with Audio settings but nothing works. HLE, LLE, DSP on Dedicated Thread - nothing fixes this.

EDIT: Aaaaaand naturally as soon as I post for help, I've fixed it. Seems Setting Audio Backend to "XAudio2" fixes the lag.

I recently bought a cheap refurb off of Dell that has a i7-3770. Did I screw up in not getting the overclockable model, or not being a more speedier dual core? IIRC this processor still goes at 3.9ghz I believe, so hopefully I'll still be all right.

For a while, I was on a laptop with a second gen i7 and it would chug when I'd play Sonic Colors. I really hope that my new desktop can handle it.

It really comes down to sheer clock speed. The i7 in the desktop will be ~1Ghz faster than whatever is in your laptop.

Nope, until the DSP is entirely redone from the ground up and extremely optimized you've got no chance - F-Zero is probably the most intense game on the Gamecube. Also there's a few shader issues (older revisions being faster but buggy, merging branches causing slowdowns) that are being worked on - best bet is to wait for the next stable - should have lots of speed improvements. Also the ICC compiled builds should be restarting soon by the looks of things which yield at least a 10% boost in FPS.

Use the latest build - the one with the TAS branch merged in the changelog should be fine to use and is much faster than the current stable build.

You really need to OC to 4Ghz to really enjoy Dolphin. I think you can force the Turbo Mode to stay on though so assuming there's enough cooling it may turn out OK - what's the graphics on it though?

Awesome. Hopefully I'll be in good shape then. I'm pumped up.

How much of a good graphics card do I need as far as offloading AA (and anything else that the graphics card can handle?) away from the processor?

Geforce GT 620 1GB
Not that great of a card.

I dunno about changing the GPU - it'll depend on the PSU. I dunno if a dual slot GPU will even fit in the mobo (or if there's any compatibility issues or anything)...

If you're stuck with single slot I'm sure there's a single slot 660 out there... either that tor 7850 (definitely a single slot version of that).

Oh yeah, I'll definitely need to change out the PSU. As far as I understand, it's fairly spacious inside for a prebuilt system.

Thanks for the input guys, sound like I have to force turbo and hope that it's adequately cooled lol.

Thanks! Is there a better CPU from AMD than 965?
The CPU is 3,4GHZ, maybe I could overclock it a bit?

Anyone recommend a particular version of Dolphin for Star Fox Assault?? Some builds randomly drop the frame rate and other builds, while they are smooth. None of the characters move their mouths and have wierd artifacting near text.

On the off chance somebody sees this and is gracious enough to reply:

Whats the best config for PS3 remote if I'm trying to play Galaxy 2? I'm completely lost.

Hi GAF.

I am a tech savvy guy somewhat, and I know the drill on how to use wiimote in PC in Dolphin. However, connecting it to the pc is a process that takes too damn long.

Is there any way to permanently link it and have it plug and play, not only for Dolphin? Appreciate it GAF
