Donald Trump Writes Blistering Letter To Gail Collins, New York Times Columnist

Donald Trump lashed out at New York Times columnist Gail Collins in a letter to the paper published on Friday.

Trump was responding to a very negative column Collins wrote last Saturday. In the column, Collins derided Trump's presidential aspirations and mocked him as "the man who can make Bill O'Reilly look like the most sensible guy in the room." And, of course, Collins lambasted Trump's full-throated embrace of the "birther" movement. Moreover, she recounted a previous tangle she'd had with Trump:

During one down period, I referred to him in print as a "financially embattled thousandaire" and he sent me a copy of the column with my picture circled and "The Face of a Dog!" written over it.

Clearly, Trump still counts Collins among his major enemies, because he did not hold back in his letter to the editor:

Even before Gail Collins was with the New York Times, she has written nasty and derogatory articles about me. Actually, I have great respect for Ms. Collins in that she has survived so long with so little talent. Her storytelling ability and word usage (coming from me, who has written many bestsellers), is not at a very high level. More importantly, her facts are wrong!

Trump then dug in further, repeating many of the arguments he has made recently about why President Obama may not have been born in the U.S. (all of which have been debunked, sometimes directly to Trump himself [ http://www.cnn.com/video/?/video/politics/2011/04/07/bpr.trump.obama.citizen.cnn ].)

Collins responded in her next column, printed on Saturday. Collins did not seem too perturbed by the letter, writing that "although Trump and I have had our differences in the past, I never felt it was personal. In fact, until now, I have refrained from noting that I once got an aggrieved message from him in which he misspelled the word 'too.'" She then rebuffed each of the claims Trump made about Obama's birth.

Does the Republican party even have any mainstream people left?

He's really been going off the deep end lately with all this birther stuff. Apparently according to a recent WSJ poll he's the GOP's #2 favored candidate after Romney. Yes, that's how desperate they are.

I heard him interviewed on Hannity the other day and he was really talking seriously like he's going to run. I think his ego is going to make it happen. I really hope he does, it's going to be a hilarious spectacle.

If there's one thing you should remember about Donald Trump it's this: He sued someone for calling him a millionaire and not a billionaire. When it was proved his fortune barely broke the hundred million barrier he tried to claim that the hypothetical value of his "personal brand and reputation" was worth enough to make up the rest of the money needed. The judge threw out the case.

His principles are as fake as his hair and he should not be trusted to run a fish & chip shop.

It's only funny when the target is Rosie O'Donnell

I'm watching the video the article linked to. A basic summary:

Trump: Obama's grandmother says he was born in Kenya. If anyone would know about his birth, it's her!

(Upon being told that the grandmother was misinterpreted and clarified Obama being born in the US:)

Trump: Why should I believe anything his grandmother says?

He's trying way too hard to appeal to crazy people. He should leave it up to the real pros such as Palin and Huckabee who are naturals at it.

Damn, I forgot how hot Suzanne Malveaux is.

I just hope he didn't see what happened to Linda McMahon, Carly Fiorina and Meg Whitman as object lessons in what happens when rich CEOs try to buy political office as I don't want him to be discouraged. Trump running for political office, even if it's just in the GOP primary, is going to be television GOLD.

He doesn't realize that the fringe crazies who eat this up aren't enough to get him elected. Maybe in an off-year elections but not Presidential runs.

If President Trump means we'll get to see more of his Miss Universe wife and incredibly hot daughter, so be it. The congress runs the country, anyway. The President just plays golf and goes on vacations while signing the occasional document.

I expect more lulz than the Palin fiasco. It's going to be tremendous.

Of course, because Trump doesn't have the sense to stay the fuck away from news cameras and interviews.

But he's not running.
Mark my words if you must.

That CNN interview is horrible. Not the birther segment, but the part where he's asked about the current political events. He sounds like he doesn't know anything, can't tell you specifics, hasn't studied plans, etc. Say what you will about Obama, but the man knows his shit. He was paying attention to Ryan's budget ideas more than a year ago, even debated it with him. Trump never answered the direct question: what would you do as president.

He's not going to run. Like Palin, he'll benefit far greater on the sidelines throwing bombs and selling books

Lol @ Fiorinia and Whitman. They got raped here in the California election TV advertisements. Most people wouldn't share a sandwich with either of them after watching those ads.

Obama fucked republicans good. Their opinions are so unrelatable by Americans that the best they can do is keep throwing cheap shots and celebrity disses at Obama while he's already damn near through with his first term. I hope republicans have a white knight hiding in the background waiting for his turn because at this rate if Obama runs in '12 he'll probably railroad them again.

Faking government shutdowns and paying Donald Trump of all people to be all over TV acting an ass, it's hilarious. Who's running this shit? Vince McMahon?

He's trying to get attention, for him and his dumb reality show.

Yep. I can't believe he is duping all these people. The joke is on them.

If Vince was running the repubs the liburuls can kiss 2012 goodbye.

If he somehow someway became president I really think I would move. I personally think it's still all a big joke but with how screwy everything is I just really don't know.

I seem to remember people saying the same thing about Bush in 2004 and there wasn't any mass exodus.

This is what happens when millionaires get closer to death's doorstep. It's an end-life crisis. They never get a mid-life crisis because they're too busy using and enjoying their millions, but now, he knows he's close. Probably trying to go out with a bang.

I just can't believe Mitt Romney is the leading candidate for the GOP right now. The guy is a Mormon. I have no disrespect for Mormons but come on? Do we really want someone with those beliefs running such a diverse, polytheistic country?

Also, the guy looks like a sleezeball with that slicked back hair. Looks like Mel Kiper Jr. from ESPN... http://www.google.com/images?q=mel+...&source=og&sa=N&hl=en&tab=wi&biw=1728&bih=802

It's a well known fact that everyone with slicked back hair is a sleezy douche, but he's also a politician so we knew that already. He's actually the least scary republican running policy wise...maybe their only legitimate candidate.

Agreed.

And yet of the legitimate candidates he's the least crazy.

What a bigoted view.
The leader of the Senate is a Mormon btw. Should he resign effective immediately?
