Great piece from NY Times.

Any parent who has had children in middle school is familiar with their teenage excuses. First, they complain that the teachers are mean and assign too much homework, then that the reading is boring, and then when all else fails, they give you that aggrieved look and whine, “It’s tooooo haaaaard.”

The point is that whatever happens, it’s someone else’s fault.

It’s annoying when it comes from a 13-year-old. When it comes from the president of the United States and his team, it’s downright terrifying.

Not fully briefed? Didn’t Trump think he should at least have a conversation about the ramifications of setting aside a seat in the Situation Room for a purely political aide with no known national security credentials? (And no, Bannon’s seven years as a junior Navy officer do not amount to national security expertise.) Did Bannon just write the order himself without telling Trump what was in it?

Teenage old man whining if old.

It will take one hell of a mess up to stop this train.

And you return. Care to explain what the train is? Is the train trying to run over all humanity?

Even as a while man you must understand that orange bigot getting a hard on by screwing the lives of minorities will not just end there. They will come for you, eventually.

It isn't enough to be white under fascist. You have to be white and extremely wealthy to have a chance.

Do you actually think Trump would lose?

In all likelihood Rs will wipe the floors with Ds in 2018 and in 2020, baring a financial catastrophe.

Trump's approval rating is sitting close to the danger zone right now. Being stuck in the low 40's for approval is not bad but if his approval rating slips into the 30's he has a high chance of not winning in 2020.

You really think that matters? It hasn't even been a month. It's pretty simple really, if the economy in 2019 is significant better than it is now, he wins. Period.

His approval rating will matter if it drops to a low enough level. Also, presidents don't always lose after one term in office because of a bad economy, but other factors can take them down to.

I don't disagree. However, I think it's more likely for him to simply not run, then to be beaten by whoever the Democrats can churn out.

Can't it be 2020 already?

Please?
When is everyone going to stop kidding themselves? The same people who voted for him once are going to vote for him again. He might lose the popular vote by a million or so but red states gonna red. We have 8 years with the orange emperor IF WE'RE LUCKY.

I say if we're lucky because it has been established that "laws" and "rules" and "the Constitution" are just formalities that serve no real purpose anymore. If this guy decides he wants a 3rd term, who's going to stop him? Do you think people would revolt? His loyal supporters are the ones who hoard all the guns.

Edit: I think we might have a chance if consumer prices skyrocket due to his actions. Unless of course he shifts the blame to other countries and his supporters buy it.

Lol. The incumbent party almost always loses seats in mid terms and Trump is historically unpopular.

Of course, he may well attack China or Iran to try to juice his numbers.

I think it's more anyone that was complacent this go-around learned their lesson, and are likely going to be affected in some form or fashion the next four years by something he does.

If he gets in a second time... I don't know what that says about humanity.

If he gets in again, it will probably say more about the democratic party then it does humanity as a whole.

Yall needed to quit with the guaranteed to lose bs. Prepare for the worst.

I'm not guaranteeing anything. But you just posted some nonsense.

Judges just checked his ban.

The election had a significant decrease in participation.

Its been a couple weeks and you're talking about a 3rd term as if all rules are gone.

The fear mongering does nothing. You also pretend no one is fighting back when that is no where near the case.

He's historically unpopular, but I'm not sure if it's enough to make him lose the next presidential election yet. I think if his approval rating drops into the high 30's he may be in trouble in 2020.The only way a democratic presidential candidate can beat him at this point is if they are fresh and their favourability rating is signficantly higher then his approval rating.

Trump really does have all the worst qualities of a stereotypical dick teenager.

A braggart who hides his insecurities with glam, deadly afraid to own up to anything, constantly insulting others on twitter, but trying to seem kind and reasonable in real life.

So...Kamala Harris?

There really should be a mental test required to run for President. I'm not sure he has passed high school or junior high for that matter.

High school? Most people I knew in high school are far more mature and competent than Trump.

He acts like he's in grade 2, at best.

Democrats had the third term headwinds to fight against and an unpopular, unlikeable candidate. That they won the popular vote by over 2% shows Trump's challenge.

If he has a low 40's approval rating or lower in 2020 he won't win reelection. Demographics will be even worse for him.

He's Ivy League educated

Money buys you a lot of things in America.

And I don't know what he studied in school, but I do know it didn't improve his vocabulary. Dude speaks like a 6th grade Finnish student who has studied English for three years.

The Republicans probably won't suffer much in 2018 at the Federal level, the House is too gerrymandered and the Senate slate is far to favourable for them (there's way more Democrats up in competitive (or should be R) states than Republicans in competitive (or should be D) states). The goal there should be trying to recapture States. You're setting yourself up for disappointment by expecting much at the Federal level in 2018. But you could certainly do something Federally in 2020 (the Senate slate will be much more favorurable) and its certainly possible to be a 1 Term president.

He has a MBA. And, having one myself, I can tell you that the MBA is what Academia created so that the dumb people could get a Master's as well (we're not actually ALL a bunch of dullards, but it is pretty easy to earn one).

Edit: I am incorrect; he has his Bachelor's from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, and that is it.

Trump actually only has one lone BBA.

Such a bizarre title. Insulting to middle school students.

Considering my son is harassed in Middle School (South Florida) for being Jewish (we were told "the kids don't really mean it") and his bathroom is full of swastikas and KKKs that they haven't removed, I would say Trump would fit in very nicely at his Middle School (we're actually pulling him out after this year).

pretty sure system just recently proved thats he is not the king. First thing he did when he came into office was quickly overturned.

Trump didn't win because people who are a mix of deplorables (my estimate about 20% of the electorate) and the "economically anxious" (my estimate 25%) voted for him (though he did better than Romney, contrarily to what was initially said).
He won because, in multiple key states, too many people who are normally voting progressive (minorities, women, young, labor/ unions) decided to either stay home or leave the President Square blank on their ballot.
Most of these people who didn't want to "bend" their morals probably also relied on the polls, thinking that not voting for Hillary was still not a vote for the Orange turd, and that she would win anyway.
The Comey letter 10 days before obviously didn't help.

The result is that Trump won the electoral college thanks to a little less than 78.000 votes split across 3 states: Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.

Clinton on her part only received overall 70.000 less votes than Obama in 2012. The problem is that she overperformed in deep blue states on the coasts, but underperformed in traditionally blue rust belt states.

All of this to say that now with a healthy skepticism about polling, and having the Turd in the WH (instead of having a Dem incumbent which is hard to run against), the push back in 2018 and 2020 will be very real and very hard.

Now if the economy is glowing, wages improved, unemployment at record lows, Soc Sec/ Medicare not under assault, taxes lower, healthcare insurance secure and no war started or any big domestic terrorist event happened, sure, that'll be good for the Reps and Trump.

I don't see most of that being true though (either way 2018 will be rough for Dems anyway, due to the map)...

The landscape of America will change drastically by 2020, there are no guarantees what happens. If the economy collapses or he chooses to fight an unpopular war he loses office fast.
