Donald Trump threatens 3rd party bid

Trump running third party would probably get the Democrats to allow a third party candidate at the debates for the first time since Perot.

If his current numbers were to hold up and he were to run as a third party, he would qualify to participate in the debates for the general election. It would be insane.

It would also be nearly impossible for a Republican to win with him running third party. Do it, Donald. Do it.

But for now he needs to keep running as a Republican so that we can watch him make a fool of himself in all of the clown-show Republican debates.

Like she'd ever join the ticket of the guy that wants to give people healthcare.

There's a recent interview with her where she applauds Trump for his comments about Mexicans. Apparently she's been beating that drum for a little while now, but nobody has been paying attention.

What do you think the requirement would be? 10%?

You know this ain't real right?

I think if Trump doesn't win, politically (and egotistically) he would rather a Democrat win than a Republican. In fact, he's already said that him running 3rd party would mean Democrats win because Republican votes would get split.

So he's probably fine with a Democrat in office, especially if that means he can have the Republicans by the balls by threatening a 3rd party run.

For everyone comparing him to Perot, didnt Perot appeal to the middle 'independent' voters as well? Seems like Trump only really appeals to the base, and that likely makes the GOP even more screwed since Perot might have taken some votes from Clinton, but Trump will only take votes from the GOP nominee

Hmm I'd like to find out more. When Trump talked about it (a while ago, right when he announced his presidency), he basically said that any Perot vote would have gone to Bush and that's how Clinton got in office. But I'd like to see the statistical breakdown. It could be that all along, Trump was basically threatening the Republicans from the start.

Yeah, Perot appealed to people on both sides somehow.

http://www.ropercenter.uconn.edu/polls/us-elections/how-groups-voted/how-groups-voted-1992/

For people too lazy to click the link, Perot got 17% of the vote from registered republicans vs 13% from registered democrats. People who described themselves as liberal voted for him equally with people who described themselves as conservative (18% for each), with people who described themselves as moderate giving him only slightly more (21%).

So this basically forces the Republican party to choose him as their candidate for the election. The capitulation will also be on his terms. If this is his plan and he executes it successfully he's a lot smarter and ruthless than people think he is.

Well, "smart" comes in many forms. When Trump says he's a great negotiator, this is proof of his cunning. "Think I won't be tough on China? Look what I did here with the Republicans!"

If he does this, and the GOP Tea Party votes for him, than BErnie Sanders would have a shot

Omg the very idea of this scenario. The GOP imploding because their devil spawn is going third party, and the Democrats gambling on (and winning with) an unlikely candidate. What a dream that would be.

Back to reality: he won't run as a third party, he just is taunting the GOP because he's in a powerful position. The moderate GOP candidate will be the nominee, and Hillary will suddenly turn out to be not so electable as thought before making the general a squeaker. What a nightmare that will be.

At the time, though, there were more self-described conservatives, so it does hurt them more.

We need a four candidate race!

Clinton (D) vs. Bush (R) vs. Trump (the "Trump Party") vs. Sanders (Independent/Socialist/Green)

NOOOOOO Trump the Republicans love you, you need to stay. If Jeb Bush keeps imploding, all Trump needs to do is antagonize Scott Walker in the debates to the point where Republicans lose interest in him and he'll get the nomination to the disdain of the party.

Then we engage phase 2: Gain the support of the left not by advocating for free healthcare and gun control (which he ironically supports) but by nominating Jon Stewart as VP. The two are perfect for each other.

Why do things have to be so easy for Hillary, even if Jeb gets the nomination? I want some entertainment dammit.

If you want truly delicious entertainment, take the days off after Election Day and take in all of the "this is the end of the country" reactions that come from the right. I spent the entire 2012 election week at home in my pajamas laaaaaughing and drinking. It was absolutely glorious.

This is all I want. I would literally give up all my remaining Christmas presents into the future for this one.
Anyone want to explain this in DBZ terms?
Someone on GAF mentioned that Trump is like a suicide bomber that can't die. Just imagine Trump as Kid Buu who kills his masters and blows himself up on every single planet he visits.

The Republican party is nearly losing control of the extremist and big business obsessed wing of the party. It's a joy to watch.

HA it would literally be Gay Marriage 2.0 in terms of a reaction. That thread was amazing yet sad at the same time. People will be calling her a communist yet comparing her to Hitler and complaining that she's going to take away our guns and make us all become gay or something.

No seriously, those are the arguments against Hillary that I've seen. Many conservatives claim she wants to take away every gun in the country and force everyone to be gay (saw a lot of the latter said last month)

Donald Trump would probably get more votes in a general election than Bernie Sanders.

There, I said it.
You're completely right. Trump is an open racist and complete asshole but Bernie is a Socialist, which may automatically alienates him from at least half the voters in the general election.

A recent poll found that more Republican voters have a favorable view of presidential candidate Donald Trump than they do of Arizona's long-time U.S. Senator, John McCain. The telephone survey conducted by Rasmussen Reports polled 1,000 people on July 20 and 21 and revealed that at least 52 percent of likely Republican voters reported having at least a somewhat favorable view of Trump, while 51 percent feel that way about McCain.

The margin of error for the study, +/- 3 percent, is greater than the difference in results, but when asked if they have a very favorable view of the politicians, the difference became more extreme: 26 percent of Republican voters have a very favorable view of Trump, while only 14 percent view McCain very favorably.

lol
