Donkey Kong Bananza |OT| Red Faction Gorilla

Gents, watched some 30mins of this and...it looks really nice - minor drops here and there be damned.

Here's the thing though : Everyone seems to agree on one thing, that the game is way, way too easy...
Now, it doesn't t have to be DK 2D levels of difficulty but...80 Eurodollars for a 20 hours game that has zero challenge whatsoever, i don't know, what's your opinion on this ? Is it really that easy ?
Go back to Dark Souls bro

I do wonder how crazy the speedruns will be for this.

A 100% speedrun with that randomness of the terrain breaking would be a massive undertaking.

I didn't enjoy the game that much when I played the demo on a TV but I'm finding the game much more immersive in handheld mode.

It's easy. Only a couple things I felt were hard. But this is an all ages kind of game.

I hate the snow sections so started with that to get it over with, and the I was right, the forest is so much better.
I thought it was pretty great, I could've done without the lava though. Would've rather just had a pure, and more relaxed, snow theme I think.

I'm deciding to level up my heart's last, which is what I do in TOTK and BOTW, that can help make it a bit more challenging

It's probably as difficult as Odyssey, although I still have a bit of game left

I'm at well over 20 hours and I'm just trying to push the story forward and plan on collecting everything after I beat the game. Content wise this is not a small game. There's so much shit. I already know a bunch of things I want to do in the post game that I've skipped for now. This is a meaty game.

The bosses have been easy but there's definitely challenge and I haven't hit the so-called difficulty spike yet someone here described as soulslike.

Well I rolled credits, but there seems like a ton more stuff added. The story seems to keep going too, if only for a little while more.

I had to admit when the final boss got his second phase I was grinning ear to ear, thats exactly what I wanted to see.

Damn i tried the game in handheld mode and the rumble is much better on the new joycons. Im using a switch 1 pro controller, but i might have to buy a switch 2 controller at some point. This shit feels noticeably better
Completely agree that the game feels way better with Joycons vs Pro Controller 1 due to superior rumble. Wondering really how much better the rumble is in the Pro Controller 2?

I guess I would have to compare because it actually never really crossed my mind so far that joycons of switch 2 have better rumble. I remember the PR but until I saw your post it was completely under the radar in my mind.

I'm playing this game with Pro Controller 2 and the rumble is great!

Playing with the pro controller 2 and the rumble is great but tbh I only turned it on halfway through

I usually always have it disabled in video games, but it really works for this game

I had it disabled through the switch controller settings so had to turn it on just for this

I'd like it if the "challenge" sections were a little more difficult. Some of them are ridiculously easy. The challenge, for me, is finding all the bananas for each layer. Just got to the canyon layer and there are 60 of them. The cool thing is you really have to think about where they might be. The fun of pummeling earth and moving all around while using your "radar" is get echoes of items is pretty dang cool

So is it a challenging platformer? No. Is it a challenging semi-open world for exploration and finding items? Yes..

Stopping for the night

Just got to the
Racing Layer

But I will need to start that tomorrow.

Are folks getting every banana on every layer like me? I am going to be in the canyon quite a while, I think

nah, I'm just playing through the story. I do explore each level a bit because exploration is really fun, but my plan is to go back and unlock everything in the post game once I'm all beefed up and have all the abilities

at the end of the game you're usually your strongest, but then the game ends. this is why I like saving a lot of the stuff for that time in the game. it lets me play around with my final finished tool belt of abilities, clothing, etc.

I did upgrade Sonar to max level pretty early on, so I'm finding a good deal organically.

no right way to play this game though, really love how collectible are meaningful based on how they're tied to unlocking clothing with stats

edit: I also maxed out the tie that lets you find more treasure chests. I find a LOT of chests, which should help a bit in the post game when I'm trying to locate all the collectibles

If there was a way to turn off items it would be harder. Plenty of times I've fallen but the balloons save me.
I would've made it so there's a hard more where items like balloons and apple juice are Very limited and an Extreme mode where they don't exist

I'm pretty far and I think I've found one apple juice this entire game and maybe 2 melon juice

balloons I get a ton of though

they've saved my ass a ton. just making balloons more rare would make this a lot harder

Is the only benefit to fossils buying clothes?
Yeah, buying clothes and upgrading them.

I think some of the basic fossils are procedurally placed in the map. That's what it feels like at least.

The bigger ones like the triceratops skull are obviously placed in a specific place. I got that the other night and didn't understand wtf was going on lol

LMAO you call that a sperg post? I'm just telling it like it is

This is a Nintendo game not a FromSoftware game
I think some people underestimate how challenging these games are for casuals and kids. Yeah it's on the easy side for us poop sockers, but it's fun so whatever.

I just realized you can reset all terrain on any layer back to how it was before anything was destroyed

I figured you could do this, but I assumed it was a post game thing. Not just a setting that was buried in the options

I try to get all fossils and bananas before moving to the next. Canyon took a while.

I'm about 70% through the Freezer layer now.

I spent all day on and off exploring the Canyon. The game is a joy to play and so addictive in how everything ultimately rewards you in one way or another. Looking forward to digging deeper in the coming weeks.

Now in layer 600 freeze path

The canyon was so good. I thought I was thorough but so many bananas I missed many. Will go back there a bit later I wanted to advance a bit.

Played the opening hour-ish on a friend's system, handheld mode.... controls felt great but I did struggle to properly see the environments on the small screen, everything in the opening areas is too dark and I kept tunneling into angles where I could scarcely find myself. Maybe I'm too old for that level of visual noise on a small screen. Otherwise, fun.

I am so in love with this game. To keep certain aspects of the game modestly challenging I decided to NOT upgrade hearts and NOT Bananza on bosses. One boss so far more or less forced it but otherwise I've been enjoying engaging with them as base DK.

I'm about to halt my progress, go back to the beginning with my upgraded sonar and 100% the upper layers. Soon as I find Cranky in this forest later I'm heading back.

Oh and man! Anyone else love the sleep talk with Pauline? Every house has a different set of dialogue pertaining to the immediate area and it's so cute and charming. Sometimes I get these little tears trying to well up in my eyes. And see im the type of tough guy that eats a bowl of nails for breakfast. You know, without any milk…

Think I'm in the last or second to last layer.

Folks will be pleased with the length.

Difficulty wise I'm glad it isn't tough but I do think a hard mode would've helped with maybe a 2-3 balloon cap or no apple juice or some shit.

The bosses are all wicked easy but fun. You just do bananza mode and run over them in 30 seconds. Same thing here where a hard mode with no bananza mode existing for bosses or only last for 5 seconds with a major several minute cool down. Something.

The game is leagues better than odyssey though, but it's clearly an evolution of that formula.

All fossils and bananas completed up to "The Divide" now. I'll probably move on to the snow section.
Stop giving me performance anxiety! I've been skipping so much
You have to double jump up with a rock at the start of the map to the left side. There is a neat easter egg there too :)
I instantly thought of this when I came there, I mean it's a staple. But since the door was there I didn't think it was possible to go up so on my second time through I just tried it and yeah that was it.
