Don't ever buy Special Kitty food from Walmart.

I'm back at the vets with my other cat today. I stopped giving my cat the special kitty food after my other cat passed. It's the only thing I can think of that is causing them to die.

I went from Friskies pate two weeks ago to this special kitty pate this week (last Sunday to now) and from that day to now I've had one cat die and now another looks like he's going to die. Last year they had a recall on their food and death was occuring and all the systems they talked about in the recall is what my cats are experiencing.

Fuck Walmart for continuing to sell this bullshit. They better hope and pray my other cat survives.

It's only from Walmart. I honestly can't think of anything else it could be. I went from Friskies to that brand and in a week one of my cats is dead and the other is dying.

Drove him to the vets today and he needed a blood transfusion and some other stuff. He has to stay overnight and still might die. Worse is he'll die alone because of covid-19 and I'm not allowed to be there with him of he doesn't make it.

Shit that's bad news, at least other GAF cat owners now have a heads up to avoid this brand. Hope cat #2 pulls through.

I mean, it could be something else that caused it. but I changed nothing about their diets except went from one brand of pate to another. What else could it be at that stage?

Yea, I would think the same thing. I hope your other cat pulls through.

Do you let your cats out during the day or whatever? The other possibility is that they were poisoned, as sick as that sounds, it happens.

TBF most pet food is terrible and isn't suitable for nourishment.

Hey brother I know this doesn't help, but I'm honestly, genuinely hurting for you bro. I've lost a lot of cats over the years, (I'm kind of the male version of the crazy cat lady), and I can honestly say it never gets easier. It always hurts so bad, like you lost a limb. I'm so sorry brother, and I genuinely do believe you should see about having the cat's bodies examined for toxins. It's not about the money, but I would absolutely press suit against that company if you can establish some evidence, they simply cannot be allowed to continue selling their product if it's hurting animals. I'm disgusted and hurt for you brother. Reach out if you ever need to talk. I know I'm just some guy on the internet, but I'm one that really loves animals and knows the pain of losing them far too well.

What time is it?
Sorry for the situation you are in.

Look into specialty pet stores for your pet food needs. Most stuff you find in super markets or the big pet chains are overcooked to the point of sapping the food of all its' nutrients. Yes, you'll pay more for the food (sometimes a hefty bit more) but you should also need to give smaller portions to help make up for it. Also, never trust what a veterinarian tells you for pet nutrition, especially if they are selling food in their stores (Science Diet, etc.). It's not a focus of their studies. /soapbox.

I'm not 100% on it being the food but I did give it to them this week and I went from two cats that were eating and playing to two dead cats. So I honestly don't know what else it would be.

If you have the means to sue them, do that, if this is really this vile food, it's for class action lawsuit, which probably would entail to get other affected people on board. Horrible situation honestly...

Well, best thing to do first would be to get a post mortem exam done on the body first. Hopefully that will help pinpoint what caused the cat to die. Go from there.

To be honest dude, Friskies is pretty much roadkill. I’m not understanding why people think quality food for anything is under a dollar a can. I’m not saying you have to go pet smart organic raw and spend a fortune but get your cats decent food. Wellness, Blue Buffalo, even fancy feast has real meat and fish in it.

Sorry OP, that shit does suck, I wish they would stop selling shitty food that kills animals but sadly these companies only care about $$$. I stopped buying cat food from Walmart when my cat got really sick and my sister’s cat passed away. I just went to a regular pet store and paid a lot more, but I rather have them healthy.

I will in the future. I, erroneously, thought that they were only allowed to sell foods that doesn't kill animals.

I am sorry for your loss, it's tough as hell to lose a furry family member. Can't even imagine losing two furry companions like that in a span of a week. My heart goes out to you. :(

Diet plays such a huge part in an animals health and well being and it's so worth investing a bit more into good food for them. A while back, my 12 yo cat started vomiting more frequently, getting to the point it was several times a week, sometimes a couple times a day. She seemed fine health wise despite that, but it scared the daylights out of me thinking she was possibly going to kick the bucket soon. Had a few people suggest to me it might just be her diet, so I switched her over from Friskies to that Blue Buffalo food for adult cats. Man oh man was the difference like night and day. She still vomits on occasion, but now it's maybe once every couple of months.

Like another poster suggested, seriously get a post mortem done on both your cats to see if they can pinpoint the cause. If the culprit turns out to be the pate, file a complaint with the FDA (Food & Drug Administration) even if you decide not to go any further with something like legal action. It will help them determine things like investigating the manufacturer or issuing another product recall.

Sadly I've already cremated both. Only thing now would be to test the food for it being tainted.

This is the answer. What also pisses me off is when cat owners go ‘my cat loves store food!’ - yes, because it’s full of additives and other crap meant to attract your cat, that doesn’t mean it’s healthy for them.

Pet food is probably worse than hot dogs, that shit is so processed. Just feed your animal raw, they're animals, that's how they lived until we started putting ridiculous-looking clothes on them.

Lately I've been feeding my cat solid white albacore. He absolutely loves it but I wonder if it’s healthy for him...

Can you feed cats raw food like you can with dogs?
Never had a cat. Probably a stupid question....

Fine as a treat but even the budget cat foods conform to some kind of nutritional standard for cats. Continuing to give your cat only tuna will have long term consequences because it lacks a lot of nutrients cats need.

I feel that Trader Joe's has a good cat food balanced between value and quality. Not the worst, not the best, but affordable.

Horrible situation, my heart goes out to you.

I personally use Organix (Castor & Pollux) and above (grain free wet). Other great non organic grain free brands in Merrick, or Instinct as well. Try to stick with rabbit & venison, avoid the beef (full stop) and poultry, especially duck due to high chance of allergens in pets.

Make sure the kitty is getting plenty of fluids to help flush. Make a vet appointment if you can.

I use carnivora food from blue buffalo. Cats love it and all three are healthy animals. Its like 70 for a ten lb bag. I get it for 25 at grocery outlet.

I knew someone who used to feed her cats canned tuna and stopped once her cats started losing their fur due to all the mercury in the tuna.
