Any recommended settings to turn down?

What kind of settings and PC you have?

Adjusting shadows is a sure way to affect FPS, at least based on my testing.

Here's what i said in another thread:
Well, this is funny.
I am testing various settings one at a time in the starting room of the campaign, standing as far as i can from the door with glass.
So far, not a single setting Shadows aside has affected FPS in any remarkable way (+- 1-2FPS change at most).
Shadows at low? I get 70-something rather than 47FPS when staring the door as i do when they're at high, but then then if i look somewhere else, FPS in general gets massive boost as well.
EDIT Shadows at Ultra kill my FPS, dropping it to 33 at that spot and generally making things miserable. Ah, well, i don't see any visual differences so whatever.

So, there seem to be specific things that simply cause problems certainly. Nvidia GPUs don't suffer so much but they do see some drops as well apparently. Perhaps due to Open GL differences, AMD uses 4.3 and Nvidia 4.5.

EDIT It seems the smoke in the room is the major cause of FPS loss. If the glass-door is on screen as well, it causes even more drop. Mere glass is not as bad as the smoke. Fires and sparks aren't as big deal as the smoke. How odd.

i5 6600k, 970 GTX, 16GB DDR4

I just wanna have mostly 80+ FPS, preferably 100+ FPS.

2500k @ 4ghz
8gb DDR3 1600
R9 390

was pretty sad in the beginning room with a drop down to 48. just got outside and its its hovering around 100fps with dips to 75 and as high as 125. high preset with the usual bullshit turned off (CA and motion blur)

Just different GPU from me... I think you can try to high overall, low-ish AA (like mere FXAA). Probably should deliver pretty good results, recommend putting the performance statistics on (at leas FPS) for testing. At very least it is a good starting point.
Dropping shadows is sure way to boost FPS at least on my GPU. Low shadows boosted the starting room from 47 to 77 or so. EDIT High to medium shadows gained me 5 FPS in the starting room.

turn off vsync, also it will be 60FPS in cutscene areas for some reason but that is like 1/50th of the game lol
I've checked vsync in game and in the nvidia control panel and they're both off. Still won't go above 60. Are they any gsync issues with this game?

So I finally got to play and it runs as smooth as butter on ultra settings @ 1440p. I'm using the latest nvidia drivers too.

i7-6700
GTX 970
16GB DDR4

I'm usually in the 50s, but can shoot up to the 70s and doesn't go lower than mid 40s.

I tried that. The only difference was that I had to stare at a black screen for 30 seconds before getting to the main menu. Might as well watch the logos. Makes it feel faster.

Yeah, same here. That's why I was asking Carlius, as he was saying his game takes forever to start up.

All you Kepler folks worried about the 780 can relax, the game runs fine on my rig. Only played the first 3 chapters though so bear that in mind:

4670K @ 4.4 Ghz
780 @ 1137 Mhz
16Gb DDR3 RAM
SSD
Windows 10
365.19 driver

1920 x 1080
144Hz
VSync OFF
Fullscreen
FOV 95
AA at SMAA (1TX)
All other settings at their highest except for those settings that go up to Nightmare, where I have Ultra.
From Chapter 2 I changed Texture Page File size down to High - this is where I'll be keeping it.

Was getting framerates between 50 and 100 until the beginning of Chapter 2, where the red lights and all the smoke effects tanked my framerate as low as 41. This was unacceptable so I messed around with each setting and found that changing Texturing Page File Size down to High was by far the best compromise. It made no noticeable difference visually, but got me up to 20% boost in FPS in places. I've not gone below 50fps since then.

VRAM usage was pretty much camped around 2.6-2.7Mb regardless of Texture File Size setting.
CPU-wise this isn't very taxing at all, the highest I saw one core was 53%.
RAM was between 6-7 Gb.
I didn't notice any micro-stuttering and nothing jumped out at me in terms of frametimes.

Change your monitor's refresh rate.
Wow, thank you.

I should have checked that...

cross post from ot

couple of tweaks

right click on steam go set launch options type in

disable mouse smooth
+set m_smooth 0

if that launch option dont work go to c users saved game id software, doom base, open doom config, scroll to bottom and change m_smooth 1 to m_smooth 0

@ 800x600 all settings turned off/lowest (the game looks like poop)

and it still runs at 10 fps... all the time.

By the way I did a fresh install of windows 10 last night (not for doom LOL) and installed the latest nvidia drivers. There is no other program interfering.

Specs
i5 4690k
GTX 770
8GB Ram
My monitor's max res is 1360x768. I know it's a problem with the game, cause I was able to run the beta maxed 60+ fps with the same rig, except I had a $40 celeron cpu lol.

This morning I was able to run it fast but then it started lagging again. I restarted my PC and still lags. I don't know what to do

You should turn on the full performance metrics in the advanced settings and see what numbers it shows.

Uh, does the game actually use the actual GPU or integrated one? Because even if the 770 is a bit low for the game, it should not be that bad... i'd imagine.

Now it started to run normally again. all settings MAX @1360x768 and doesn't go below 60fps... what's going on??? Why does it do this?

I suspect it started with integrated GPU instead of the actual one for some reason. Would easily explain things.
Now, figuring out why it would do that... no idea.

I'd been meaning to upgrade my Radeon 7850 for a while as I hadn't really been using my PC to play games as much as I would like... and I have my 15 2500k

But at this point I may as well just get a new PC. And I may as well go in with a 1080. Plan on hooking it up to my TV as a dedicated gaming machine.

I just can't justify not playing this game on a PC.

All options maxed out with 130 FOV ( :p ) and getting ~100+ FPS on just one Titan X @ 1440p w/ 3930k at the very start.

Wondering if its worth lowering the graphics to get a better framerate since this game seems like the type of game you'd want more fps in (and to also satisfy this monitor).

I have disabled the igpu in bios, that shouldnt happen.all i can think of is the hard drive (7200rpm) being maxed or something

Could it have been some kind of memory issue? Bottlenecked for some reason or something. I remember when we adjusted settings for Starcraft 2 on my brothers laptop, the game ran like shit due to VRAM running out until restart (put shaders too high or something).

Are you using +com_skipIntroVideo 1?

no. the game launches on steam but nothing happens for lik 5 minutes, then it starts and it stutters like hell for another 2 whil all the intros go on and finally settles in. its ridiculous. plus shadowplay is not working with it,

Which drivers do you use? The last two drivers should have fixed that problem.

Ctrl+f "760 2GB"

Jesus. Glad I decided to wait until I can grab a 1070 on this one.

...though, my laptop has a 4GB 960m. Weaker card I know, but maybe the 4GB of VRAM could make the difference?

I have a GTX 970, i7 6700 and 8GB of ram. The Ram seems to be the thing that would hurt me here, but would I be able to run this at 1080p 60fps on ultra if I turn down some settings?

I just bought it anyways, I'll report when it's done downloading.

checking back in.

using a GTX 650 Ti 2gb, 8gb ram, and an i3 3550, able to get 30 fps at the 900p, settings mostly medium. it's more than playable. I'm so relieved.

Consider trading quality for more resolution or framerate. This game is fast enough FPS closer to 60 would be ideal.

I'll put it this way.

I have an AMD FX8350@4.7ghz and a Asus OC 980ti and I have it at 4k, the Ultra Preset (with no adjustments) and AA off and I get 55-60fps. More often than not, 60fps.
I am excite. What type of monitor do you have? Would you recommend it?

yeah I'm gonna play with that a little more. I'm not really playing for the graphics right now, I'll do that later when I get back to my real PC.

in fact this is one of maybe 3 games ever where I actually felt like I definitely wanted to play at 60

Sooo 980ti and 6600K means I should be able to max everything out at 1440p and stay above 60?

Got exactly the same rig. Runs with everything on Ultra (TSAAx8) @ 1440p and it feels like 60 FPS all the time. Not looking at framerate directly though, but it sure feels like it.

Start by lowering shadow quality to low if you haven't already.

is it me or the monsters are awfully quiet in this game?

The sound mix is problematic. I noticed that in some scenes ambient sound drowns out everything else. Music has tendency to do that too... but lowering it makes some quieter, ambient tracks inaudible or almost so.
And most monsters have relatively similar sounds so telling them apart is difficult... They certainly don't make much movement noise.

i5-4460
EVGA 970 SC
16GB RAM

Running it at 1080p/60 in ULTRA settings with V-Sync on on my 46 inch Panasonic plasma TV.

This game is flyin so fast that it is the first time I have actually felt a tad sick from a first person shooter. Took me a few to adjust. Polished and optimized as hell. Game hasn't flinched from 60fps in the 2 hours I've played.

Marvelous and gorgeous. So far the only thing that is disappointing for me is that the sounds just seem to lack that 'Umph' I was expecting.

If you get motion sickness, take a break and increase FOV (which has side effect of increasing the feeling of speed even more...).

I have:
Windows 10,
i5-3570K,
GTX 970,
16 GB RAM,

and this is running hella smooth on Ultra at 1080p. I'm pretty surprised how it's been performing. And I don't even have the newest, newest driver either.
