Is it worth putting Orb of Venom on Venomancer? 350g for addition slow and admage.

Poison Sting and Orb of Venom wouldn't stack, it would be a waste of money.

The orb is like the Quelling Blade in that it is really only worth it if you have a Melee attack. It technically works with Range, but the effect sucks in comparison (4% slow instead of 12%).

To be honest, I think the best person to grab it would be a Melee support who doesn't have any natural orbs. Someone like Tide Hunter or Omniknight. Actually, I really like the Omniknight idea I just had, the slow would stack with Degen Aura, and make it much harder for enemies to get away. I'm going to give that one a try.

It is, actually.

Heh, your right. Poison sting is a buff placer, not an orb.

It is worth it if you grab it very early on, since it the 3 damage per second for a total of 12 damage is the largest boost you can for a single attack for anything under 500, and during the laning phase most of the times you may only be able to get one attack on an enemy before they get out of range. There is the question if it is really the best use of your money though, since it does cost 350 and takes up an inventory slot.

I'll try to do this trick next time I pick him. Fast Orb and Boots combo may help you easily draw a first blood.

Really, you are paying for the slow, since blades of attack or a Wrath Band would give you better attack damage from the second attack on, but 4% slow is 10-15 movement points on most characters, and there are times when them being just a bit slower would have gotten us the kill.

I don't even care for this +3 damage per second; venomancer not kind of character who needs lots of farm early on. But that +4% slow could make all the difference in the early stage, IMO.

Just read about Rubik and Treant Protector, what a great heroes to play as. They're ten times interesting to me than generic newcomers like Clinkz / Bara.

Ms.Bocky: ask milkman

Pretty sure he didn't post any screenshots from any of your scrims. That is just Bocky being delusional. Also they played a different team because Bocky was taking forever.

Orb of Venom would be a waste on, Veno you already have a 11-14% slow on the passive and a 50% slow on gale, which is good enough to get first blood in most games.. Spend the money on wards/smoke, or any other item.

The game I saw of them playing Bocky their Lich was complete garbage, missed pretty much every Ult and kept throwing his life away.

Who's this guy w Russian name? Seeing him in IH for the second time.

That's Lirlond copying my style.

Hey, can you queue up courier commands on top of what other players have issues? Say someone is having an item delivered, can you queue up a command to have it pick up your items without breaking its current command?

could have been me :)
ive played one scrim against milkman and we were lagging it up at top lane
he only ever invites me as a last resort

So I played a random party game in matchmaking, 3 friends and one solo queuer. The randoms included Witch Doctor, Crystal Maiden, Slardar, and Spectre... on me. The 5th got Tiny, but I don't think that was a random. Regardless, I started this game worried. We lost the previous game when we ought to have taken it, I was more or less as tired as the last, and I had just randomed the posterchild for "big lategame carry".

Fortunately, I had that one inhouse game as Spectre to draw upon (which more or less got me a slight familiarity with the last hitting and with how to use the spells and ultimate for fights). I can only imagine what horror it would have been learning everything from scratch. Things were a little bit hairy in the start, they had numerous stuns and nukes, and I died more than I would have liked. I managed to pull even and stay ahead in kills however, in large part thanks to the coordination of the team and our successful teamfights. My contribution wasn't too significant other than Haunting for several seconds, jumping into teamfights with Radiance burn and picking people off, but I suppose that was enough of a help to take towers and ultimately barracks. I had one close escape where I haunted and jumped out to mid and their Windrunner, it was a last-ditch effort with me clicking the Reality blind on the minimap. Made two ill-considered dives past a set of barracks, which I'll chock up to my tired brain thinking we've suddenly switched into chase-and-kill mode when we're actually still working on a T3.

I finished with about 200 creep kills, 16 kills, 4 deaths, and 16 assists. Treads, Vanguard, Radiance (28-30 minutes, would have been sooner had it not been for two early Silencer ganks without vision), and Heart of Tarrasque as my final item. We finished in 45 minutes and 24 seconds, much abbreviated by a good teamfight and a double raxing on their mid and bottom lanes.

Kudos to my team, they were badasses that held the line marvelously <3

In conclusion:

- Inhouses save lives.
- Spectre is awesome.
- Found another solo queuer who is a good human bean and a good team player. Zounds, they exist!

The community in this beta might just be worse than Hon's.. its insane how much shit people talk when they don't back it up themselves.

Who are you playing as?

I've been playing as a few different heroes so it's hard to say. I think I've played Lina the most, but I've played as lich, tinker, crystal maiden, tidehunter and skele king. I like playing ranged heroes a bit more as every time I try a melee I just get myself owned far too quickly.

My biggest issue is I have no idea what items to get past the start of the game. I'm always so puzzled by how others level so quickly and have all these very expensive items by mid-game. This is what I seem to be having the most trouble with, but maybe I'm wrong. I also don't know if I should give melee more of a chance.

What's sad is I'm playing dota2 right now as I type this out on my iPad. :/

Lina, lich, CM, Tidehunter don't necessary need items. These are heroes that are meant to make it difficult for the other laning heroes to harass/farm, while your laning partner hero (who hopefully is a late game carry) is last hitting the creeps.

What I said above is probably meaningless in 60% or so of the matchmaking games. So getting back to your dilemma, for the most part, heroes like Lina and Tidehunter could use Arcane Boots as their first item. Great mana boost for you and your team. And wards. There should always be at least 2 wards on the minimap. Did you buy the first set and they have expired? Ask your support team to buy the second. They don't respond? Just go ahead and buy another. You will need to learn the ward spots. You can google "warding spots dota 2".

To keep up with leveling, try to not go back to the fountain to heal. Going back to heal is one of the biggest delays in leveling up and gaining gold for items.

Learning Dota is seriously learning a new culture. It takes lots of time and effort to truly grasp and understand the game. This means learning shortcuts, hotkeys, everything you can do to keep up with the pace of your matches. I played Dota 1 since 2004 (playing in clan tda and hanging around in www.dota-allstars.com) and I'm still learning! :D

Do the suggested items.

For Lina it's this

You'll see at the bottom. I like to go in order (except for boots, get those as soon as you can).

Big everything.

(I hope someone screencapped that because I sure didn't)

Thanks for the tips. I guess I'll try to adapt my play style a bit. Since I keep using different heroes almost every game I'm not really benefitting myself with learning how to effectively play any particular hero. Suppose I'll try to stick to one or two. To the point, I have no idea what wards are. I'll have to look into that.

Sweet. I'll give this a try.

I do not recommend Lina. Her spells are not reliable (as in the aiming on the is strict) and her attack animation is horrible.

Of course, if you master Lina, you'll have a much easier time transitioning to other heroes.

Whenever you hit the shop tab, you'll see the recommended items builds for any hero. Really useful for new players.

Just played Skeleton King following the recommended items. Went 5/1/7 :3

Didn't get to use my Ult unfortunately, because I didn't die after level 6 :D

So I read through a bit of stuff over on the dota 2 wiki I was referenced to. I didn't realize those suggested items really made any difference, but it seems like I'll give those a go throughout a game and see how I end up. As for heroes, I think I may give lion and skeleton king my attention for now. They seem to be beginner friendly and useful.

Thanks for the free hit, Valve. *two finger vein tap*

Something you'll want to keep an eye on as Skeleton king is his mana. It is really low, and you can't really spam without having to worry about some mana for your ult.

Also, I recommend leveling up his vampiric aura a little later. Maybe when you get his stun maxed, 2 levels in his passive, and one in his ult. Reason being is that sometime it's not smart to push aggressively.

Maybe someone else will tell you otherwise, since I have a little over a month on Dota 2, but It's worked out fine for me.

True story on this one. Which is why many players will get a soul ring on Skeleton King. When you are low in mana and about to die, use your soul ring :)

I don't like DotA 2. I can't stop playing DotA 2.

Was able to start playing a couple days ago and I'm still not fully getting the whole concept of the game, and I can't stop playing. All other games just took a backseat and I don't know why. It's inexplicable to me as to why I like this game. Have I gone mad?

I've read through a few guides and tried multiple heroes, but I can't ever seem to make enough money as other people do and get destroyed by mid to late game. I think I'm doing it wrong.

According to Steam, I have 14 hours logged in to Skyrim, and 93 hours in the Dota 2 beta. And I really liked Skyrim, but when I have the time to sit at the PC the gaming choice is obvious.

Played my first match as a DK last night and it went pretty well. Luckily I got matched with a pre-made and they were communicating well. Although the bear did take a bunch of my kills (not bitter, just saying that's a lot of assists).

Didn't you get the invite a couple days ago too?

I have a little bit over a month on Dota 2 and accumulated 132 hours so far.

Here's a vid for you :3

It's a DK guide.

Wow. I just played a farmed Trax for the first time. I literally destroyed the whole enemy team (all farmed too) alone. Satanic, Daedalus, Manta and Repel from Omni... they had like no chance, not even Skeleton King :D
They already had mid and bot lane pushed through and we had no lane pushed and I went from 8 - 9 to 22 - 9 ^^

I'm sitting on campus right now and scrolling past that image is extremely awkward. Luckily no one can see my screen right now.

How's your pudge play been going, Hylian?

Much much better, I think Pudge has actually moved up to my most successful hero (for matchmaking games)! I still need to get down the muscle memory of Q, Click, Shift+R, Click though. I have a bit of trouble with that and end up dismembering when they are 3 feet away from me.
