Dota 2 Beta Thread: [Brewmaster]

I've never had any issue with double tapping, maybe it's just the way I press keys. I've raged at double tapping teleport not taking me to base though.

What I do have issue with is smartcasting for items, like an item like blink dagger or tp scroll goes off as soon as I hit my item hotkey, anyone know how to fix this in console? I want it to be like dota/hon and not like LoL, I often blink/teleport before I'm ready.

It actually is true, and various people are complaining about it. It is beta though. Go try it all yourself.

I am going to make a few videos of some of their issues. The invisibility one is the biggest problem.
Be sure to spectate so that you can see sentry ward placement, also makes it easier to know if a bot has a gem of true sight (I played as brood one game and they bought one pretty early, explained how they suddenly turned on me when I was invis under my own web).

health ring -> vanguard, blink dagger, boots of speed or treads, usually a hood of defiance, then heart or blademail.

Yes I had the first one right.
That blink dagger, should I buy it straight up or does it also consist of "components"?
Heart ( of kerass w/e it's called' ) or blademail? What determines which one I should get?

Thanks

Blink dagger is straight 2150, you can buy it from the side shop or the base shop.

As to knowing what you should get, if the enemy team has only minor magic damage, get a planeswalker cloak. If they have any mainly-magic heroes, build the full hood. You'll almost always want the hood, but the extra 1500 can go well towards your blink.

Blademail is cheaper, and especially effective if they have one overfarmed carry. Blink in, taunt, blademail, and watch as he kills himself. If you're getting good farm, though, you'll probably want to get a heart over blademail because it offers a lot more HP and the regen outside of fighting keeps you ready to go if you somehow survive a teamfight.

Looks like you can actually check your Match Making Rank in the Console.

Do these two commands:

developer 1
dota_game_account_debug

And you will get your rank displayed. Mine is 2931, and it says my rank uncertainty is 244.

Also, it actually keeps a track of your streak, I am on a 3 game winning streak it says.

I think Higher is better for rank.

Fun: getting a leaver in the beginning of the game and not being able to drop the game because it bugs out and doesn't make it safe to leave.

conceeeeeeeeeede

Although in that case it didn't matter 'cause they won so fast.

rank 3644 with an uncertainty of 290 with only like 70 matchmaking games played (and I have about 35 wins and 35 losses >_>). humm. interesting

I have 37 wins and 29 losses and my rank is significantly lower - 2944. But I don't have the high scores you typically post, so I guess that is accounted for. Makes sense.

I also have one abandon from a game where everyone gave up but refused to leave (for obvious reasons), and moving around every five minutes in the fountain still counted as leaving. ): I wonder if that counts in your rank. It would seem silly to do so. They have a whole slew of other variables to track leaving.

Servers are down right now? My main menu doors are closed.......

I'm messing a bit with my options. What exactly does "Camera Reverse Grip" mean?

Vimes is my favorite character. This has nothing to do with Dota 2.

Venomancer is my new favorite hero. This has everything to do with Dota 2. Not sure how to build him, yet, though. Can/should he be played as a support?

If you want to support with veno you might as well go for a pushing build. Get a basilus early on for the extra armor and mana regen (you can turn on hero only aura so you don't push too early and later turn it on for creeps). Then later go for arcane boots, mekansm (if no one else in the team is going for it) and pipe. These items will greatly help your team and are also great for pushing. You might want to get some hp items before you get all of the items I wrote, since these items doesn't really give you much hp. Urn and bracers are pretty cheap hp or you could just go for treads instead of arcane boots and switch between int and str when needed. Wards should be bought by some real support hero in the team.

after playing ~70h of dota2, I played (today, servers were down) dota1 again and was so happy to have the full pool of heroes. <3
dota2 is fun, but there are just soooo many heroes I like missing. only ap is shit, too. :(
next update should bring rd/sd and new heroes. I would prefer ogre magi, undying and magnus! :)

I wish there was an offline mode :(

I just want to play against bots for now dagnabbit.

WHB played him pretty interestingly at Dreamhack, as a sort of lane menace in the early game. Splitting between Venomous Gale and Poison Touch and leaving wards for later, and focusing on early mana regen (saw him with three Sage's Masks at one point, I believe). Needless to say, the gale and autoattack spam was heavy and quite effective at pushing his solo counterpart away from the lane.

Let's be friends.

Hm, all right.

First time I played him, I just went all out bonkers 'cause I had someone supporting me, and I killed a ton of people. But last night, I had to go support 'cause the team makeup didn't really allow me to steal the last hits. I enjoyed both times, but I just wasn't really sure what was the "correct" way, or if both are valid.

just adapt to the situation and play different roles

If you support a carry or something on lane with veno, then you might want to go for the gale and orb build. You might be able to get kills for the carry and it's really easy to harass the enemies on the lane, giving the carry an easy time to farm. Just don't get yourself in a too aggresive position where you will get yourself killed.
Same thing if you are on a lane with another ganker, stun -> gale -> hit them a few times -> dead. Easy kills.

We've talked about veno earlier in the thread, if you want to look for it, but I'll run it down quickly again. Veno isn't all that great in a hard support role, I would stay away from that. I'm also not a fan of the "push build" with early wards, getting gale and the passive makes you a much much bigger threat in lane, you can keep almost anyone out early with ease, and you devastate melee heroes. Getting basi/boots/vangaurd/treads/magic wand/magic resist if needed, pipe if your team needs it/into whatever, I've been going scepter for the stats if nothing else. Making him tanky allows you to take advantage of your dot damage without getting bursted out.

I can never figure out how to make Power Treads effective. When should I switch?

Agi when you use regen, int when you cast spells, strength when you're in fights if you could be targeted. There's more to it, but that's a good place to start, the first two are the really important ones.

Regen is tied to Agi? I thought it was Strength.

No, it isn't, let me explain.

Say you have 600/800 hp and 400/500 mana with treads on agi. Use a bottle charge and you get 735/800 hp and 470/500 mana. Then you switch treads to strength, get the +10 and your max HP goes to 990, and your current HP would go to 909, because the percentage HP stays the same when the max changes. If you hadn't been on agi when you used the charge, and strength instead you would've started at 742/990 and ended up at 877/990. Same concept applies for mana. It's a small difference, but it adds up.

Same concept applies when you use regen of any kind.

all of what pro said is fact. you guys should, in future, not make him type out all of the maths behind it and instead just accept that he's played a few times.

Hmm? His knowledge is very much appreciated, your undertones of condescension are not :P

I think the reason that the ward build is so popular is because veno is often put on solo lanes against 2 or 3 heroes. With his wards, he'll be able to stop the dual/trilane from pushing his tower and at the same time getting good xp. Higher than 1 rank gale and orb wont really help on these lanes.I wouldn't skill wards if I were on a dual/trilane with veno except if we went for a full out push strat.

I agree, if you're in a suicide lane then wards early are ok. but 1v1 or 2v2, I wouldn't ever use it.
