Dota 2 Beta Thread: [Brewmaster]

I hope you weren't watching me play the first game tonight. 1/14 Dragon Knight.

I did at least knock down every tower [5] solo for the first 30 minutes, AND we won

Last game went pretty well. I think I like Dragon Knight because his ult makes him ranged, can't wait till they implement the new patch, going to love also having a Ranged Stun.
 
Well, Dragon Knight is fun. Need to get better at last hitting early game.

So far, I tend to get Soul Ring first, then grabbing the level 1 boots, pick up a magic wand, and then I start to differ a lot. I have been varying between getting a Armlet or a Black King Bar. I tend to just grab Morbid Mask and not build it into a Mask of Madness till later in the game. How does the item build sound?
Start off with Soul Ring, then make either treads or if your farming really well, make a Hand of Midas, then finish that Helm of Dominator so you have sustainability! Then make Cuiress, Black King Bar if its needed / Daedalus if it's not, and then Satanic, after that Mjollinir is a good option. You can Armlet if you want to, but I usually skip it.

It depends on the lane your in, usually I'll go Breathe Fire, but if I'm in a tough heavy harass lane then I'll get Dragon's Blood instead, get ult at level 6 then max either Dragon's Blood or Breathe Fire whichever you have higher.

I usually upgrade to level 2 so I can get the splash, at the point that I'm taking towers I have at least morbid mask so I can clear creep waves pretty quickly with 2 hits and then Breathe Fire, but I understand your reasoning for level 1.

i was watching you play, melee gets harder to play later on in the game

It was my understanding that (given even farm), melee carries tend to to better late game, balance-wise, since it's harder for them to get farm early game. Being melee, and all, they're much easier to harrass. They do have faster attack animations, though.
 
Helm of the Dominator! I wanted to type Helm of the Dominator! The +5 Armor, Lets you take Control of the ultra valuable lane Creep item!

Mask of Madness may not be horrible though, you could actually hit someone with you stun at least. I wonder if it actually would be a decent idea, DK doesn't really need +5 more armor, especially if he grabs an Cuiress. Still situational, but I think its effect may be more useful then the Dominator effect, and it does cost basically the same.

I don't believe you, and from now on, expect you to make Mask of Madness on DK.

They suffer from being able to be kited. Especially the ones that don't have a way to disable or lack a distance closer, Juggernaut for example.
 
This is what you call a bittersweat victory. We had a female and a southern American fellow on our team. The Dires Dragon Knight and Husker just keep on sprouting sexual verbal abuse and racism. We where down 10 deaths, then the beast got unleashed (I got vlads) and i carried them to victory. They where like 'You Mexicans always ruin it for us Americans, its only fair if we abuse you'

Don't mind the 6 deaths Zeus got me 3 times, and i base dived when we had the ancient.
 
You know what, why not get Vladmir's Offering? It is 200 more then Domniator, gives a +5 armor aura rather then just +5 to your self, 16% lifesteal (Thats 1 more Percent!), and a fancy attack aura. Plus, the Ring of Basilius isn't a horrable early game item on Dragon Knight, who could make use of the Mana Regin.

Do you really feel the Domination ability is makes Helm the better choice?

Aura doesn't work for ranged.
 
I don't really care about the damage Aura, its the fact that you have an Armor Aura and a Mana Aura. You pay 200 more and lose the ability to dominate a creep, but you get the ability to passively support in a team fight.

I don't understand, why would you build Vlads so you could not gain life steal, and passively support on a DPS hero?

If you wanna support there's this great hero called Crystal Maiden, she has an awesome aura, and two good disables.

Well, sure, but they're generally stronger in terms of pure damage output, usually, right?

I don't get Life Steal when Ranged! What a rip off, I thought I lost the Damage Aura. D:
 
i just won a game! feels good =). Now what's a Carrier and I'm just going by the suggest buy build for the void teleporter slow time guy. What level do i put points in to my stats?
 
Riot does pull out a unique design every now and then. That new guy in LoL, Victor, has single target move that gives a shield equal to the damage, a static version of AA's Stun (Places an object on the ground that slows, if the person stands in it too long they get stunned). Other two moves are a bit boring, a skill shot laser and a cloud you can move.

The thing I find a unique that I don't think Dota has an equivalent too is the guy has one of his inventory spots permanently filled with a McGuffen (A interesting way to balance), which can be upgraded in the shop to act as a mini-Aghanim Scepter for one of his 3 basic attacks.
 
Design wise Victor is pretty fucking uninventive.

Except for the item thing, which is a total gimmick.
 
I personally think the item gimmick is the only part that is cool. I'm not too confident that Riot thought it though to well though, unless the character has some really high base damage, that gimmick will likely be a major disadvantage. Definitively feels like they took the idea of Aghanim's though.

7 games behind parity. I will even you out one day, stats!

Finally played a game of Slardar where I felt comfortable, grabbing a Blink Dagger helped tremendously. Proved invaluable for pinning Weaver long enough to hit him with an Amplified Damage and some bashes.

Finished with something like 98 CS, spent it on Phase Boots, Blink, Vanguard, and a Crystalis. Could have opted for a BKB instead of the crit + damage, but at that point in the game Kapura's AM diverted all of the enemy team's attention anyway, so I figured I'd grab something more offensively geared (and damage redundancy never hurts, tbh). Was amusing seeing Tidehunter melted with us teaming him (he lost 90% of his health in a second, popped the ravage, and died instantly), and then Weaver trying and failing to take me on solo.
 
Got another opportunity to practice my Pudge skills today. I was playing against AI's with one other friend, teaching him the game (he came off of LoL). I had some amazing hooks! I had one where Juggernaut went into the fog, and I was on the inside of our base's wall. I just waited a second, threw the hook out, pulled him in, and killed him!

Also, is there any kind of command or action that tells the AI's to let you take solo mid? They always put 2 on the bottom, one on mid, and one at top, always expecting me to take top, no matter who I am. I didn't like doing top as Pudge.

Just walk mid. They should leave.

On another note, my biggest issue switching from HoN to DOTA 2 is item builds; I need to work on that (might be because I only have 17 dota 2 games played lol...).

They don't have any specific commands for it but like HK said just start walking mid and the mid ai will go to another lane. It's always 2-1-2 in AI games.

Pick AM first.

Alternatively, make a pushing team that can take down towers so quickly that he won't be able to safely farm. Death Prophet, Shadow Shaman, Furion and Broodmother are great pushers.

Own him, not his team. That's a crapload of farm on AM or on any hard carry that he was probably farming in peace for > 40min before he started doing anything.

Win faster is another option. There is a lot of good pushers. Don't just run around killing heroes, with a score of 50-24 you should have had a rax or two.
 
There are two heroes will almost certainly come out soon:

Bane: Portrait and finished spell icons found. Voice files have been in the game since the first datamine several months ago.
Invoker: Portrait and finished spell icons found. Voice responses (no files, though) discovered fairly recently.

Other heroes that we know are being worked on are:

Silencer (early model and spell icons found)
Phantom Assassin (early model and spell icons found)
Clinkz (early model found)
Gyrocopter: (early model found)
Templar Assassin (early model found)
Luna (concept art found)
Spiritbreaker (lore found)
 
I just watched dendis stream and wondered how his account is lvl 6 in the main menu :O Is he playing some kind of higher beta or is it because he played 378 games? Im currently at 60 games or something and still lvl 0 with 0 exp

He played the beta before it was open to more general public (closed beta), they deactivated the leveling up system before that.
