Dota 2 Beta Thread V: Real Talk Strikes Back [Tutorials]

Ah so its a match up problem not exactly related to SF not being able to abuse crow himself.

Anyway I would love for SF to make a return in the meta. Too bad that won't happen until some crazy buffs. Most baller hero ever.

He's already big in China and a pretty solid situational carry. Nobody runs him mid anymore in competitive but all of the buffs he's gotten over the last few patches have made him a feasible hard carry.

So you are agreeing with me that the rune buff is reward enough?

Are you saying you never miss a last hit or lose out on some xp when you have to back off to bottle up? How much advantage should the rune provide? Should it be an automatic lost lane if you get beat for 2 runes? 3 runes?

To be clear, I'm not agreeing with or conceding a single point you've just listed.

I wasn't saying deaths mid are a result of runes, but runes are a contributing cause. When your opponent gets a rune you know it, and if they don't show back up on the map you have to play it safe. If one person has a rune most of what is accomplishes is zoning, but if you can just sit back safely and spam nuke the wave with bottle crow mana, you don't get hurt nearly as badly. Deaths happen most often when people get surprised or are caught overextending. If one mid is actively trying to get runes but the other is better controlling the spacing of the lane with bottle crow mana and HP, the one getting the runes will lose out on exp.

Don't shove words in my mouth with that stuff about last hitting. Of course you miss things in transition, but the point is that no lasting/large advantages are claimed. When you work someone out of lane, run them out of regen, and take the rune, they shouldn't get a free pass back into getting viable. They should have to waste that minute running back to base and give you the two waves of free cs. And it should be a lost lane if you concede 2-3 runes, that's a pretty big deal. Team needs to help you out if you can't get them.

Also I still need to know what would be an instructive scenario.

yo bro bottle crowing lets u spam ur skillshots without regard to ur manapool, brings dota closer to the superior game

stop messing around the skillshots arent even designed with the same mindset

but pls

DP skillshotspam so impactful

look at that DK skillshot oh shit

So if this was real, who (in their current state) would fall out of being a "mid" hero. SF and Pudge were mentioned before. I think SF is pretty much out, but Pudge could still be in in some situations, basically against any squishy target that he could potentially kill at 3. I also expect Lion mid to come back.

One very popular one comes to mind: Magnus. That man can't survive mid without getting the runes or crowing. He just can't.

Also, not popular, but Zeus could no longer mid unless he has rune control. He really needs that regen for farming and HP replenishment.

How many AGI gankers are there? I just realise I like TA/Nyx/BH and they all fit in the same category pretty much.

Not Riki though. He can fuck off.

OK I'm definitely not going to put myself in the "likes all AGI gankers" category because Viper players are terrible people and playing Mirana is like piloting a tank.

Thanks for the help anyway.

Tbh, I can see both sides of the coin. You push a group of heroes out of the limelight either way, but there's definitely something to be said for mid lane not being as kill or rune oriented. I think a nerf could more plausibly reduce the amount of charges the fountain gives you (be that 2 or 1), or maybe require a courier slot for each individual charge (I think someone mentioned this before, not sure).

My prediction is that buffs/nerfs will very with hats. Just like the warlock buff/set.

IE nerf = naix no hats
buff = release new sets

I'd like to see it reduced to 1/3.

You shouldn't be getting 400 hp and 225 mana every 20 seconds. Bottle Crow should be something that a struggling mid can use to help a tad for maybe one extra nuke or a little bit more time in lane before heading to the rune/fountain, it shouldn't be a triple mana/health pot infusion on a 20s cooldown.

does "finding replay" take forever for anyone else?

Varies depending on time of day. The replays are just hosted on servers, if those servers are swamped replays take forever.

You can even download the replays outside of the game if you click download replay and copy/paste the url it reports in the console into a browser. Then just add the replay to your replay folder and make sure it's named after the game ID. Only really useful when the in-game download fails.

i have console open, and I get this:

Sending steam HTTP request to check replay file
OnReplayCheckCompleted: exists = 1 statuscode = 200 context = 200858874

can't seem to find a link. I've even copied down all the match ID's (for the TI3 east so far), but i'm not sure where to download them.... any ideas?

Which game are you trying to get? I'll see if it'll find the replay for me and give you the link if it does.

i was trying to get all the ti3 games. I'm almost done with the east, so it'd basically be all the west replays at this point...

I appreciate you looking but I'm just trying to be efficient. Do you know if you can just sub the match ID in a download link from the server and do it that way?

EDIT: just to be clear, I can download them, just takes a long time for the download button to pop up

It seems the link only shows in the console if the download actually fails. I used this method when it would find the replay, but clicking download just failed at 0%. I guess your download isn't failing, just extremely slow?

This is what comes up if it fails:

Sending steam HTTP request to check replay file
OnReplayCheckCompleted: exists = 1 statuscode = 200 context = 118121446
OnReplayChunkDownloadCompleted: Replay download failed. Error code = 206 success = 0
Retrying download: http://replay151.valve.net/570/118121446_662041951.dem.bz2 Bytes: 0-1048576

Edit: that link is just an example, not TI3.

Found something very useful, you can download every game here.

welp, your google-fu wins. no idea why i couldn't find that. Thanks!

Dota 2 has no bugs whatsoever.

Riot willing to address them by banning. VALVe let's it be a part of the game.

Beta. Isn't like the new heroes in LoL are ever balanced anyways.

Don't understand why they actively tried to nerf heroes so they could never fill roles they weren't designed for. Every support's damage ratios nerfed because people took them mid.

It's their game and you'll play it like they want you to, if you don't like it you can leave (or get banned).

It's not a beta, even VALVe doesn't consider it to be.

You can buy a key, you can be gifted a key, you have massive tournaments for it and it has a fully functioning item shop.

It's not a beta.

You're right about it not being a beta, at least not completely. But the game still isn't officially released. It's not like no bugs are what makes a game good anyways.

Why does Omni Knight see so little competitive play? He seems like a pretty good hero, his defensive spells can be a real PITA.

Does he not fit in well with the whole trilane meta?
