Dota 2 Beta Thread V: Real Talk Strikes Back [Tutorials]

As of now there have been no changes to the Beta proceedings of Dota 2.

The Game is now listed as Early Access and requires a $9.99 purchase of a Starter Pack to play, or a free beta key item redeemable on Steam.

The plan is to release the game this summer, but some news sites ran the article early.

So basically: Finished tutorials + Abaddon + Legion Waifu + 'official' launch + Steam Summer Sale next Thursday? Cool.

I'd love to be one of the contributors who's weekly items get added during release. They'll probably end up the highest selling items ever, just by coincidence of when they were released.

So your telling me that Aniuxi Gentleman Skywrath Mage set is coming out next week?

Also, really nice to see that we are going to get some free hats for completing the tutorials. Sniper stuff is pretty nice.

I'd like at least a 1 or 2 week grace period after release so people who never wanted to bother with invites or never looked at the thread but noticed Dota 2 on the frontpage of steam can find their way here.

Guess who bought the only wards in a game featuring an enemy Pudge!

Did you guess me playing Weaver, even though we had Shadow Shaman and Crystal Maiden?

You guessed right!

Bonus question: guess who complained about getting ganked out of the fog up top repeatedly

Bottle sniper mid maxing shrapnel blast for harass/wave pushing, rune security going orchid rush is legit. I love that this skill keeps getting buffed because most people go 1 button sniper.

Biggest thing that's been annoying me recently is bad support players. At the start I think we've got a good lineup but then they just sit in lane sapping xp and taking last hits. They never pull the lane, stack camps or buy wards and with the farm they do take they get crappy item builds like boots straight to scepter instead of getting an early mek or something (had a shadow shaman get bloodstone for some reason when a simple blink dagger would have given us so much utility in picking off enemies).

I think I can play support decently but it can be a bit miserable being poor. You can't always rely on the carry to farm well even if they get space and their item choices can be poor(yeah, CK, vanilla boots into buckler is a great idea). And with no one else getting support items it can be difficult to buy courier, wards, etc. and still pick up a mek when it's effective, nevermind other core items.

Will this move over to Community on release?

Hopefully not. That's where threads go to die.

We've got big enough community that it'd be hard for it to die. Not to mention Dota2 is the game you play for years. Most of the games today should last you a couple hundred hours, while Dota 2 lasts you thousands of hours.

Played -AR game as wisp/Lo. Man, had no idea what i was doing.

Doom Bringer is fun though.

I played him once in AR mode, and pretty much told my team sorry ahead of time.

It was terrible. I wouldnt mind trying him again because he can be so useful

Well just had a new fun experience. Dude just goes back to base and leaves his keyboard apparently. No disconnect and he said nothing. Just left and abandoned after his time was up. What the fuck?

I personally think Shrapnel has been shit since they removed the vision it provides (happened with all projectiles in 6.77, wisp's spirits etc.). My biggest thing about Sniper vs Flint Beastwood (HoN's Version) is that in Dota 2 Sniper's Shrapnel damage is 12/24/36/48 a second, but the damage is only delt every 3 seconds. The skill lasts for 9, so essentially you're hitting for 36/72/108/144 total if the target stays in it's radius the entire time (movement slow isn't enough to stop people from getting out, on average I get 1 or 2 ticks on a player).

It's great for pushing creeps, but kind of screws your last hits because the creep's HP is dropping so low, and it's damage versus buildings now is pathetic (4/8/12/16).

I support a fast Orchid on Sniper though, the silence +20% damage + regen is great! You're able to fire off your ulti every 20/15/10 seconds. Start the fight with your ulti, and pick a kill with it a few seconds later.

No, it does't. It hits once every second, not every 3 seconds. It also deals damage at the very start, so it does 10 total instances, doing 120/240/360/480 damage over 9 seconds. Maybe you some how got confused by it only dealing 1/3rd its normal damage to buildings?

I guess so. Hopefully it doesn't die.

Just got a Dawngate beta invite and trying out a game now. It's.. odd. I prefer Dota so far but it's very early on so that might change.
