It's a dumb insult, but sometimes the people using it have a point. Playing against the flavor of the month heroes/hero combos every game does get old after a while. It hasn't happened as much to me lately (probably has to do with me not playing as much) but a few months ago, there would be KotL/PL pickers in every damn game and it got really annoying.
Picking heroes deemed OP to try to get your win rate higher is lame but keeping track of ult cooldowns and things that are actually very good habits to get into seems more like what he was referring to.
I didn't realize you can't play dota 2 offline with bots, that's pretty lame on Valve's part.
Dota just simply isn't balanced for competitive play outside of captains mode so people who take advantage of that are normally the ones who get called tryhards. I've never really seen it have to do with people trying to get better at the game.

The guy who instant locks the most trending hero instantly. About a month or two ago its someone who would instalocks nyx, or someone who pub trains and tries to emulate competitive strats.
I just tried and couldn't. My internet has been intermittently going down today so I tried to play a couple bot games (both with steam in online mode and offline mode) and it would let me play for a little bit before it would just kick me from the game saying I was disconnected from the server.

You can. It used to hang on "Connecting to Dota 2 Network" if you were offline but now it'll let you access the menus and everything that requires the Dota 2 Network is greyed out. It was re-added in one of the last two patches.
If it was re-added and is supposed to work, then it seems to be buggy and non functional.

Oh yeah, calling someone tryhard because he's counterwarding or something like that is completely ridiculous. Calling a team out for picking only tier 1 heroes in All Pick, I can understand, but everything else is fair game.
I just unplugged my ethernet cord and bot matches worked fine. Maybe it has to do with being in Dota 2 when the internet is down. I started it up after unplugging so I'll try starting Dota 2 and then unplugging it.
edit: Just tried a few different ways and I was connected to the bot match everytime. Can't replicate your issue : /

I really wish that if in All Pick you didn't pick by the end of the first countdown it randomed for you, but only from the hard support pool.

Better off trading for em so you get a set/item you want.
Getting an unusual courier is a 1/40 shot.
Opening 6 chests will probably give you 2 of the same item and another 4 you might not even want

Haha, yeah I've checked it out and yeah I do feel bad for him somewhat.
There are two types of try hards, those who only play to win, and those who actually play to get better and know what it takes to get better.
The first category picking #roadtot14 heroes is usually an easy win and usually deserve to be told that they are try hards in a negative way.
Actually, there might be a third category of try hards who think that they're playing to get better, but haven't learned how to improve. You could probably put those who start counting cds before learning proper mechanics here.

Bad players picking the wrong heroes or heroes they're still learning how to play exist in every game mode. You won't escape them by playing the other modes. Maybe Captain's Mode...but that will put you at the mercy of a drafter who may pick a horrible lineup, putting you in the position of not only losing before the game starts, but also playing a hero you don't even want to play for the next 45 minutes for your trouble.
At least with AP, you can play a hero you actually feel like playing and/or learning how to play xyz hero or role better.

15/8/15. Easily my most difficult match so far (won 6 straight with Husk from yesterday to today). Enemy comp:

Omni
Bane
Luna
Mirana
3 hard disables + Omni ulti + 3 Ghost Scepters + 1 Halberd + Mirana invis.

Was 12/4/11 before we started diving past T3 for kills. I was gripped every time, Mirana arrowed every other leap, Pudge ulted every other team fight. Huskar gives no fucks at all.

What items do I get? For being a carry she really doesn't do much nor could I participate much in anything. I went mid and my teammates kept asking me to come gank...and I couldn't really help out much when I did try. lol
Although I do like her ulti...really good in the big teamfight's...and the extra bonus physical damage just melts people.

Watch any of those 3 recent replays.
You will be fairly uninvolved for the first 15 minutes. You need to focus on farming because you need items to make her useful, no if's and's or but's. This can be accomplished either in a lane or by stacking ancients. Stacking Ancients is a more advanced technique and a lot of teams won't let you do it for free, so save that approach for later. You have to be good at last-hitting with ranged heroes, and you have to do it well.
I can find you a replay of a Medusa that Ancient stacked and played really well with me recently later if you'd like.
