I'm not getting the whole EU's taking the easy route through NA thing. The only requirement is that their "Base" be located in NA? They don't have to have a single NA citizen?

I believe for Direct Invites and Regional Qualifiers - that Valve selects - they need to be physically located in the region - playing from that region.

For Open Qualifiers you can do whatever you want.

scaling spell dmg works well, hold alt over a spell and it tells you your spell dmg from added int and aether if you have it

What do you mean by "successfully implemented"? They have been implemented and work well as far as I know.

The impact of scaling spell damage is very negligible. I think the goal was to slightly increase the power of spell casters in the late game without making it viable to explicitly build int items for big damage. It's pretty different from league in that regard and should not appear to have had a visible impact on the game.

I would say spell scaling was successfully translated via individual heroes like SWM or OD.

I'd argue that nerfs like non-rechargable BKBs, more mobility based patches, and the era of agi heroes being the only carries have helped spell based heroes a lot.

When I started this, most high end carries were agi, and with the 10 secs bkb, spell users were fucked late game.


EDIT: Now that we are talking about this, when did the team dynamics started to change? Before most teams had a physical based hero as the "carry", now we have almost all type of heroes as "core".

Overall, I prefer this dota over the one I started at, for sure.

Yes, that's also part of it. As I see it, the point of spell scaling is so no one feels "useless" in the late game, and so spell carries and attack carries can coexist. Spell scaling is just one way direct of achieving that. Dota's taken a multi-pronged approach with Aghs and Pure Damage and selective scaling and INT carry items and so on.
