Doubleday Stands by Kitty Kelley's Claims That W Did Cocaine At Camp David

So, Kitty Kelley's Bush family expose, "The Family: The Real Story of the Bush Dynasty" comes out tomorrow. Sharon Bush, one among the over 1,000 sources for the book has been trying to recant her story about Bush Jr. using coke. She went on Today this morning to sell this story. And Doubleday, the book's publisher just issued the smackdown.

Statement by Doubleday Regarding Kitty Kelley NEW YORK, Sept. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- The following is a statement by Doubleday regarding Kitty Kelley:

In an appearance on the Today Show on Monday, September 13, 2004, Sharon Bush repeated a denial she made earlier last week. After telling Kitty Kelley that she had knowledge of President George W. Bush "doing cocaine" at Camp David -- "not once, but many times," Mrs. Bush now denies that statement. This denial has already been utterly discredited by a third party to the meeting at which Mrs. Bush made the statements. Doubleday and Kitty Kelley, author of "The Family: The Real Story of the Bush Dynasty," firmly uphold the accuracy and veracity of reporting on this topic. Further, Doubleday and Ms. Kelley affirm that Mrs. Bush was read her comments on the day following the meeting in a telephone conversation, lasting over an hour, that was witnessed by Random House Vice President Peter Gethers -- that those comments included her remarks on cocaine use at Camp David -- and that she once again agreed that these comments were true. The following are undisputable facts:

-- Mrs. Bush confirmed that she was aware of cocaine use by President George W. Bush at Camp David when his father was President

-- Mrs. Bush confirmed that such usage occurred on more than one occasion

-- Mrs. Bush knew that Ms. Kelley planned on using this information in her book and was read the exact quotes that would be utilized

-- Mrs. Bush continued to have a good relationship with Kitty Kelley -- long after the meeting in April at which she confirmed the cocaine report

-- Mrs. Bush called Ms. Kelley in May, 2004 after which there was a friendly correspondence.

Additionally, Today Show host Matt Lauer and Mrs. Bush suggested that Kitty Kelley had a "relationship" with Lou Colasuonno, a public relations executive who witnessed the April 1, 2003 lunch meeting between Kitty Kelley and Sharon Bush. Kitty Kelley had never met or spoken with Mr. Colasuonno prior to April 1, 2003. Kitty Kelley has never had and does not have any personal, social or financial relationship with Mr. Colasuonno.

What does this have to do with the good men of the Swift Boat Veterans For Truth? Don't let them snow you under, George! We won't stand for the continual whitewashing of the truth by the leftist element! A blizzard of disinformation and spin, that's what this book is!

I hate to say it, but if Bush really is doing cocaine while he's president it would certainly explain a lot.

Well, does coke cause brain damage? Because if that's the case, it still explains quite a bit.

When did this interview happen? Because if this is true and occurred anytime vaguely recently, then it makes Sharon Bush incredibly stupid.

I was at Barnes and Noble the other day. I couldn't believe how many negative books about Bush there were. It's getting absurd.

Next thing you know, there will probably be a book exposing a plot by the Bush adminstration that caused the recent rash of hurricanes in Florida.

You see, none of that matters, because as has been demonstrated the average American lacks the capacity to read any of these books.

Wow here we have the only person on the planet who missed the birth of personal destruction that was birthed in the Clinton era.

Uhhh....If you don't think that the US administration hasn't been working on a secret weather controlling machine since 1954 then you obviously need more help than I could possibly provide.

Yes, it's a shame that a conservative perspective is so hard to find in our nation's bookstores.

Yup, that's right.

Now quick, someone photohop a white nose onto the chimp!

Other fun stuff allegedly in the book:

It reveals alleged sex offenses against minors by Dubya's father.

It reveals the use of the White House by male hookers under Dubya.

It reveals how former first lady Babs Bush is almost a practicing witch.

It reveals how Dubya has had a very special friend in the mayor of a Tennessee city, who has has cohabited the Texas ranch many times.

It reveals the details of embarassing photographs of Bush that actually caused U.S. Govt. agents to perpetrate the anthrax mailings to destroy the building of National Enquirer and kill photo editor Stevens.

It reveals the incredible relationship between Dubya and some famous televangelists.

It reveals intimate details gleaned from persons close to Bush in Crawford, Texas.

It reveals the filth of Bush's ancestors, the most shocking family in US history.

It reveals how Bush plans additional wars for oil, under the pretense of fighting terrorism and defending Israel -- these are just pretenses, the real reason is we are running out of oil.

It reveals Dubya's Oedipus complex with Babs, his love/hate relationship with his father, some surprising medical details about Dubya, including an explanation of why he is so burnt out.

It reveals the little-known relationship between Laura and Gen. Tommy Franks.

It reveals how Dubya's dad got the nickname "Rubbers" from Congressional colleagues.

It reveals how the Bushes plotted to kill Ronald Reagan and put Poppy Rubbers in the White House.

It reveals the involvement of Bush Sr. in the Colombia and South America drug trade.

It reveals Dubya's participation in the sexual/occult Rites of Onan and the Skull and Bones at Yale University.

It reveals murders committed by the Bush family.

MEGATON!

It's also worth noting that Kelley, the author of other scandalous unauthorized biographies has never been successfully sued.

Classic spin technique. Distract from the issue at hand, exaggerate the opposition to the point of absurdity.

Makura, please provide some old email or posting defending Bill Clinton on the marajuana issue and then I'll take you seriously. Until then, you are a joke.

Oh, and I keep having the impulse to say "It's the War and the Economy, Stupid" to just about everybody. Does it matter that GWB did coke 10 years ago, really? Nice to use to deflate some of his hypocrisy, perhaps, but not much more. There are better reasons to want this joker out of office-- see the Helicopter thread for one.

Why would I want to distract you guys from this? This new book reminded me of my trip to the bookstore the other day, that's all. I don't really feel the need to challenge this book at all. To me it's just more alarmist hyperbole based on a virulent hatred for Bush.

So you defended Clinton on drug-use claims?

Oh, and what exactly is alarmist about this book? Sensationalized hyperbole perhaps, but alarmist? Do you know what the word means?

By the way, I never trust the words "just" or "that's all."

And damn right I hate Bush (someting you seem to think is a problem) for misleading the country and starting an unsubstatiated war. And spendign us into a hole. Bring on the books, let's get him out of office.

What? I've never looked into it. I like Clinton. I wish he would have ignored the "wag the dog" complaints and bombed bin Laden when he had the chance, but overall I thought he did a good job. He apologized for the Moncia thing and I forgive him. I equally dislike the way there were 10 new "Clinton is Satan!!" books coming out of the right every week when he was in office, but this thread isn't about that....

The New York Times gave this book a poor review.

Clearly this book - along with the timing of its publication - is intended to have an impact on the coming election. The book's flap copy reads: "at a crucial point in American history, Kitty Kelley is the one person to finally tell all about the family that has, perhaps more than any other, defined our role in the modern world. This is the book the Bushes don't want you to read." But the author's undisguised contempt for many of the Bushes, combined with her failure to come to terms with politics and policy, and her tireless focus on sex, drugs and alcohol, will likely play into family members' penchant for assailing the media. It will likely give them an opening to shrug off this book as a snarky exercise in gossip, instead of forcing them to deal with substantive questions about their political record. Then again, in an election season willfully focused on the past and the personal and the unproven, this book may provide yet another distraction from issues here and now.

Duh. No one thinks she's a literary genius, unbiased or that she has a brilliant political mind.

She writes trashy but apparently true tales of the underbelly of the lives of public figures. However, it's worth noting that she has not been successfully sued. And she even published that Nancy Reagan was the blow job queen of Hollywood and once sucked the knob of Frank Sinatra. Don't you think if that shit was false, she would have had her ass sued to hell and back?

The real story here is the creepiness of the Bush family in stark contrast to the squeaky clean Americana image it's trying to peddle to the American public.

How come Doubledays press-release states "The following are undisputable facts" when they are currently in dispute this very second?

Did they learn their persuasion skills from GAF? :)

I've never done cocaine, but I have a few friends that did it sometimes in college, that second part, from what they've said, is completely untrue. More like a whiskey dick type thing.

Why the hell are they disputing trivial cocaine allegations when she's supposedly accusing him of this?

You'd think if this could be proven in any way some form of legal action would be taking place.

Robojimbo, that's just sarcasm from the poster you quoted.

[Bill Cosby] So I asked the guy why he took drugs. Cocaine, you see. He said, " It intensifies your personality." I looked at him. He looked at me. "But what if you're an asshole?", I said. [/Coz]
