hey, what's the biggest your backpack can get? I have 80 slots atm, but I have to destroy things regularly to make room for sweet loot :/
I haven't found another backpack for sale since Lothering though :(
**party member spoiler! to do with
urn of sacred ashes
quest**
I can't believe Leliana turned on me after I poured blood into the ashes haha, I had to do a quick load and not do it, I need her for my party :/
Did not see that coming haha

I'm up to 110, but I still haven't gone through the dwarven level or the elven alienage. I'm sure there's at least 1-2 more backpacks out there.

The Warden's Keep DLC is worth it for the storage chest if you hate destroying cool gear.

My best group yet was 3 mages and a rogue, lol. I made Liliana an archer so I had to bring a tank into the mix to balance things out-still three ranged and one melee though.

I do think I could do 3 mages and Zevran, especially in a second playthrough with stuff unlocked. Would really just revolve around having one mage min/max arcane warrior with spells that don't require having a staff out (weird bug I think) as a utility caster.

Man 3 mages sounds like a god send compared to my all melee groups. At least you have a lot of crowd control there and AoE nukes. I run into a random encounter with like 3 melee guys and 10 archers and It's like I'm playing Civ 4 :lol . Pause every other second, look at who's disrupts are up and who is weakest and who I can kill the fastest. I keep my potions on rotation so I always have one up, or try to at least. Zevran helps because he does a ton of damage as well as my 2 handed warrior I made.

Running around back and forth in Orzammar will eventually drive you crazy, or at least it did for me.

Perhaps, but I'm mesmerized by the vistas and the political aspect thus far. Granted, I just arrived, but that alone helped reinvigorating the game in my eyes.

I bought the digital deluxe edition, so I have the DLC waiting for me, my current save is at camp after the previously mentioned quest. (I had to go to camp, my Hero had 8 red box injuries next to his name :lol)

also..
Is it normal to be utterly shit at this game? I havent played an rpg before, but Im getting my ass handed to me on easy! I started on normal and had to drop it back for the first boss creature thing
ogre
, I thought I put it back up to normal after that, but when I went to drop it again having a tough time defending
Redcliffe
, it was already on easy :(
Still having a blast though!

Anybody know the exact locations of all the backpacks in game? I spend too much time deciding what to keep and what to get rid off, this was my biggest complaint in Mass Effect and it's clearly evident here as well.

I chose dwarf commoner as my orgin. 20 hours in I saw my GF play through the noble origin and I damn near started over.

Circle Tower - Quartermaster
Dalish Camp - Varathorn's Goods
Denerim Market - Gorim (after the Landsmeet)
Ostagar - Quartermaster
Party Camp - Bodahn's Wares

I don't know how anyone can play this game beyond Normal difficulty (for first play through). I mean, I can get by encounters but it usually takes a long time (unless it's just a bunch of scrub darkspawn) and usually with 1 or 2 deaths. Keeping my warrior with threathen alive is pretty damn hard. I use MMO tactics though, and it seems to work okay. Archer's pull, tanks up front, mage nuking from the back and I setup a tactic to taunt anyone going after my light armor wearers. Still takes a while since I have at micromanage a lot (my tactics are not setup like I want yet... it's pretty daunting--had the same problem with FFXII gambits).

I keep hearing about the dwarf noble origin being tremendous. Looks like it may be the best one in the game.

That sounds like fun. I'm playing a spirit healer, so the notion of going without healing is completely foreign to me. Do you burn through a lot of potions? Do you find yourself running out? There don't seem to be any endless supply vendors for them.

If you haven't played a party based RPG it probably takes a bit of getting used to. Take some time to get the hang of micromanaging, stuff like heals and crowd control, flanking and avoiding being flanked, that sort of thing. That Redcliffe part is hard, and probably harder still if you don't have a healer.

Stupid question incoming:

Playing the 360 version, how do i pause in battle to issue commands to my party? im assuming this is like a KOTR deal right?

Out of the six different openings, the Dwarf Noble is the only one i played where there was a reason to return to where you started. Not only that but there should be a huge shitstorm when i do return. The only other intro thats even close to something like this is the Human Noble and thats not even a good comparison since what happens there isnt tied to where you start. The Dwarf Commoner would be cool but
you take care of business with your sister before you go with Duncan. If Rica were in some serious danger the urge to book it back to Orz would make sense. When i played the Commoner, i didnt even get a chance to say goodbye after the fight lol

There are endless supply vendors for elfroot and flasks, though, which combine to create health pots.

Those are some tough decisions near the end of the game. I sat there for a couple of minutes thinking about each one. Guess I can't make everyone happy :/

Not so much as it's the best one, but I'm sure your return to Ozammar will be quite interesting.

I buy all the potion's I can but Morrigan has made at least 100 so far. And yes, i use many, many, MANY potions.

OK so probably been asked a billion times, got the digital deluxe edition on Steam, the Extra DLC I got (2 of them? Stone keeper + some other one)... I want to make sure I don't pass them by. I know one is a party member (plus a new area?) and one is a new area, but having just completed the mage origin story I only have one 'premium content' note in my log... I have downloaded both though.

Will I come across these in normal gameplay or do I have to go out of my way?

Again, I would read the thread but I'm afraid of spoilers. Thanks all.

is it worth picking up the massive strategy guide thing that I saw at EB the other day? would it help me get better? I think I may have found my new favourite style of game. :D

I didn't understand that I need to specialise each party member :/
Both my hero and Morrigan have potion making, hero and leliana have poison making etc, started to try and seperate each of their roles now though.

My only healing spell is "heal", will I eventually get one that heals everyone in the party at the same time? Or one to bring somebody back to life? I keep losing someone super early into big fights. Yes, I'm looking at you Denerim back alleys

edit:

I can only imagine - I'm early as anything in the game, and I've already made decisions I'll make very differently on my second playthrough

You can do them anytime, they are not "missable". One is in your camp, other is a gold icon on your world map on the left side.

I find it very useful, especially for the side quests and knowing where to go.

Once you go to Mages Tower, you get Wynne who is a spirit healer and comes with group heal and revive (maybe you have to put 1 point in but I think she already comes with it), etc.

Afaik, having multiple potion makers is redundant. The only skill that looks to be useful for anyone melee would be Poisons because you cant even apply poison or throw bombs unless you have the skill. The same applies to Trapmaking but doesnt seem as useful as having multiple people throwing flasks or coating their weapons.

The Spirit Healer tree has some other healing spells. And i think there are a couple others in that are available to all mages.

Man I did a new game and went for a hume noble orgin. I got up to the point where
people are holding the door shut while I'm supposed to go to the kitchen to escape
but the door is locked. There's no other way due to the fire's blocking the path, and the main door being (spoiler). I restarted from previous saves, as far back as 40minutes. I was looking forward to Rogue/Ninja/duelist extreme.

Did they test this game? Really? I started over like 3 times. Don't think I have another one in me.

Did you
get the family sword from the treasury/whatever? Maybe you need that before you can enter the kitchen?

Yep, it was the first thing I did. Was glad to get better gear. Dual wielding from the start.

I also lingered until guards stopped showing up. Do you think that's the glitch? Killing until they stop respawning.

What sucks about Wynne is that on one hand she's so useful that she's almost necessary to have in the party but on the other she's incredibly boring so you miss out on a lot of good dialogue if you substitue her for say Zevran or Alistair.

For me it's Morrigan and Shale and everyone else just rotates in.

Bring up the wheel (its hold L2 by default in the PS3 version so I'm guessing its hold the L trigger by default for the 360 version) to pause the game and then select a command to queue it up. Press the bumpers to switch characters while paused.

Are you sure its the door to the kitchen that is locked? i dont remember it being locked when i played through. There are locked doors though, for if you have a rogue.

I am on the fence.........I want to play it on whatever platform it will run/look better. I'm not sure if my PC will out perform the 360.

Dual Core 2.33Ghz
Geforce 8800GTS SSC 640Mb
2 Gigs Ram
I'd run it at 1280x960

or

Xbox 360

Also, is the collectors edition worth it? It looks like it might be, but I have been shammed before.

How say you?
PC version wins because of the overhead view. You'll be fine with that rig :9

Thanks for the info guys. Looks like I am getting it for PC :)

Now to rationalize the "Digital Collectors Edition" It sounds good, but I've fallen into that trap in the past.

Thoughts?

That's why it's nice to play a mage. I can afford to run with a highly entertaining crew like Shale, Alistair and Zevran, which is exactly what I've been doing. :p

Currently playing as a dual-wielding Warrior, Human Noble. And I think I'm in the latter third of the game. Been really enjoying it, but I feel as though I've rushed some things. I'll be making a concerted effort to make my second playthrough a more explored one. I'm sure I missed things, as I tend to in WRPGs.

Dragon Age: Origins really got its hooks into me. I'm loving the entire world. Sorta considering reading the books, too.

I don't know if it's been asked before, but for my second playthrough I'm very much considering a Mage, but does anyone know how well Arcane Warrior and Spirit Healer specializations work well together?

Yeah for my second playthrough I may play the role of a complete fuckshit dickhead spirit healer just so I can keep her boring old wrinkly ass out of my party. Currently she just makes the game cruise control, though.

I think I mean skills - and yeh, I meant that I had purposefully created redundancies in my group, hadn't even noticed. I will be much better prepared next time. Im a big fan of throwing flasks haha.
I have never succeeded at either stealing or disarming a trap either :/ My hero is human noble rogue, level 2 stealing and level 2 trapmaking

I've been aiming for that very spec myself, right now I'm using an Arcane Warrior with a couple heal spells. I'm a little disappointed, to be honest. The AW can hit respectably hard, but my stamina is too low to last long in melee, and cast times have a delay because you have to sheath your sword, so twitch spell reactions are not possible. I understand these balances exist to keep it from being overpowered, but I get the feeling that until I get some nicer gear it's not even worth it. I would recommend going Spirit Healer first.

I see no reason why AW and SH wouldn't work well together. SH doesn't even require a special mode or anything, it just straight up gives you the spells.

I have Arcane Warrior on my Mage, it's nearly useless and mostly for fun. It requires you taking points away from Magic/Willpower and dumping at least 2 or 3 levels into dex so you can actually hit things at a decent rate. The armor is off the charts though. But in this game since Armor isn't like in AD&D (higher armor only means less damage taken now, instead of no hit at all) it's pretty useless unless you also dump more points into Constitution.

My Armor and Defense is at 29 wearing Ancient Elven Armor chest and helm (haven't found the rest). The Defense is in the 80's. This is with Rock Armor and Arcane Shield I think i'ts called. Good tank if you build em right, just have to use spells to get attention (which...is easy :p). But you won't have the instant aggro management of a proper warrior (taunt, threaten).

With a Spirit Healer it would feel pretty bad. You'd have ot choose between the two, and they both travel down very different paths IMO. I mean you could certainly do it, but why waste their talents on the front line by standing in the back trying to heal. And if you're in the heat of battle healing, you're gonna spend your little bit of mana you have left over from casting the stuff you need to actually stay alive.

The ability to do physical damage is directly proportionate to your AW ability that instatly gives you 50% fatigue. Which makes your spells cost 50% more. See where I'm going with this? But you do hit like a beast with 39 Magic (which is like STR, and I think the STR still tacks on top of that though I could be wrong).

A good match for min/max playstyle would be blood mage. Personally I'm just keeping AW, though I'd like to get shapeshifter and play with that...but I'm pretty certain spells don't carry over into other forms unfortunately.

My Mage/Tank bounces between the two roles. Heavy into primal, so I can stand in the middle of a bunch of guys, cast firestorm and continue to attack them while my spell shield and AW ability to go halfway into the fade reduce the damage i take to nearly nothing. Which is great because enemies seem to focus on my Mage since he's always in front when a cutscene ends....

The only Mage specs that seem like they would go well together from a min/max perspective as Psy-Phi said is Blood Mage and Spirit Healer. Arcane Warrior seems to be a spec you build your Mage around and not something you supplement yourself with. Shapeshifter is more of an "oh shit" utility or an OOM back-up it seems. There is not a lot of overlap for mages.
