I cant watch this shit anymore. Seriously, watching those redrawn snippets makes me want to cry. Vegeta/Goku battle with that animation? Sweet fuck.

Dragon Ball Z looked so much better before..

Who the fuck cares? The only reason anybody watches this show is for the gripping tale about a young man and his love for adventure. I can't wait for the U.S. release so I can finally replace my little stuffed puppy dog I sleep with <3 Watching the weekly releases online brings me back to the good ol' days

I watched the Super Saiyan episode and was disappointed. It felt so rushed. An epic moment like that should not have been so rushed.

Agreed. I had a raging boner the whole time and it just went limp once his hair turned yellow. Of all things to cut short... this is literally my only complaint thus far, but I remember it being disappointing in the original cut too :P

I don't think I was, but I was like 12 or 13 and thought DBZ was the pinnacle of anime achievement then as well. :lol

I've been passing on Kai since I saw they censored a bunch of stuff. I noticed that they lightened up on it though, so I might start watching for the Trunks/Android/Cell Saga.

Might as well! Trunks is about to cut Freeza up. Things are about to get serious :D Given how much time is left, it sounds like Gohan's high school drama is going to be cut significantly, which is another welcomed change by me. Still haven't read the manga, so I dunno, but that was my least favorite part of series... right up there with the Garlic Jr. saga

Should be getting my Blu Ray soon. I've heard only good things about the new dub, so I'll give it a listen. Makkankosappo instead of SPECIAL BEAM CANNON, Kienzan instead of DISTRUCTO DISC, Kaioken instead of KAYOKEN, and, best of all...

Over 8000 instead of over 9000. Holy shit :D

The transformation was edited by mere seconds. The Kai version is pretty much exactly the same, cutting out 2-3 seconds here and there.
Yes, I measured both versions just now.

Has anyone seen Ep. 56?

Around the episode half, when Trunks is fighting Freezer, there's a piece of music that is practically the same as the beginning of "War" from Avatar's soundtrack (by James Horner --> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mw6Se1Wo4S4). And, it isn't something that hears similar, IT IS that track.

Am I missing something? lol

Edit. Ah yes dammit, it's by James Horner xD

Its James Horner. They're probably both "homaging" that motif from some piece of classical music.

Ah yes, it's by James Horner :lol

And I see, that's probably the case. That part sounds great in the anime.

Oh my god, my ears. . . that is horrible. =\

Anyways, can't wait for what's next, the animation goes up a lot in quality now compared to what it was during Freeza and before.
I still can't fathom why there was no Cha La Head Cha La. It's just too iconic to replace. :(

I don't know if it's my source, but was DBZ always this jittery animation-wise?

If I understand what I think you are talking about, then yeah, the older stuff is I believe. But that should go away soon if I remember correctly.

Not as much if you're watching the Dragon Box masters. But yeah, DBZ has that problem =(

Just wait for DBZ's 30th anniversary when Toei decides to reanimate the entire series in HD.

wait seriously?? no faulconer for english version??

who did the music for the english track then? the blu ray reviews so far don't say

I hope they look back on this years from now and realize what a mistake it was for Kai to not have been completely redrawn and animated. I shed a tear every time I think of what could have been.

Here are the OP & ED dubbed in English by Funimation from their DVD/Blu-ray release.

I haven't been following this thread too closely.

I saw this, amazed by the animation and went to go see if the clips looked this good. Sadly, they just got the MvC2 treatment :( .

I would spend far too much money if the whole thing looked as good as the intro/ending. At least I'll always have the intro....

Just imagining Goku going Super Saiyan in that animation... :'(

for some reason, this made me :lol

Apparently they're changing Frieza's voice. I hope it's better because I really liked the old one.

I haven't watched this yet but have they removed all the out of place dialogue from DBZ like "Bro" in Kai?

So I've seen a few episodes of this in Nicktoons Network and it's the same DBZ I remember. I do like that it's going at a fast pace so that's pretty cool. I don't like Gohan's new voice though. I prefer the older voice. The rest of the crew sounds kinda the same as the older voices. The opening has incredible animation.

OH MY FUCKING KAMI

OLD LADY FREEZA IS BEING RECAST!

This is the best dub related news I've heard in a long time. With this, I will officially give the dub a chance, because Freeza's voice was always the biggest travesty for me. Awesome stuff :D

Yeah, that's welcome news indeed. But it still won't get me to watch more than an episode or two of the dub. Cannot stand Schemmel or Sabat.

Hopefully the rumor about the Ocean Group dubbing it for Canada turns out true.

I might watch this, actually. Funi's dub of the Freeza eps was weak, as they were just getting their footing back then, and their re-dub for the earlier Saiyan eps just sounded off. Now I can watch the whole thing with a consistent tone.

No Faulconer music is a huge blow for me, but not really an issue until the show gets to the Cell/Buu episodes. Faulconer's stuff was almost all terrible during the Freeza arc (lots of unforgettable/generic rock, with music cues that were completely off) and he wasn't even around for the Saiyans arc. It was only during the Cell and Buu stories that Faulconer's music came in kicking ass.

shit, getting excited about new Gundam and new DBZ...I feel like I'm 10 years old again. :lol

Ugh, Ocean dub was horrible. Most of the voices were just plain wrong, and the worst offense was that garbage music they recycled from Megaman.

Sabat's awesome, and Schemmel is the perfect Goku. =P

I was watching the marathon on Nick last night and it wasn't bad. although vegeta saying that goku's power level exceeds 5000 pissed me off :lol

Same :lol I think the fandub for Kai said 8,000 if I remember right. They're doing all they can to avoid the meme :p

Did that episode air yet? I heard it was going to be "Over 9000" just for the TV version to appease the fanboys.

Edit: OH GOD THERE IT IS

Man I don't know what to buy to watch this series. I don't think I have the patience anymore to watch the original run with all that powering up and filler wait times but Kai doesn't have the music I grew up listening to and I don't think the Dragon Box does either. I wish someone would support the kids who grew up watching it on Cartoon Network.

They did over 9000 last night. I enjoyed it very much.

Has anyone bought this yet: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0036ZA8G2/?tag=neogaf0e-20 ?
Nicktoons isn't in HD so I am tempted to buy it ONLY if its uncensored

Yes it is uncensored, and it is quite awesome.

What you are looking for are either:

1. The original DVD sets (out of print, most expensive way to collect the show)
2. The Orange Bricks (still in print, very cheap, but contains a HORRIBLE remastering of the show)

For the fans of the Falcouner dub, these are the only way to go. I personally would have liked them to include the Falcouner dub with the Dragon Box (simply for nostalgia), but instead, they opted to go with the dub with Japanese score. Cause, you know, that appeals to so many people :lol

Ehh, compare the music when Gohan goes SSJ2, the Japanese one versus the English one. Japanese ones blows it out of the water.

Compare the music when Gohan kills Cell. Funi version blows it out of the water. :D

Yeah, I figured that was the only way to go. I have S1 and S2 on Orange Box but after losing the first disc to Season 2 before even watching it I kind of gave up on buying those. Especially with the cuts on the top and bottom.

Keep in mind, it's not 16:9. I'm happy that they decided to go this route, though, since the broadcasted version in Japan wasn't true 16:9 anyway (in the sense that it was originally made that way or that it was touched up to perfection).

I grew up with the Cartoon Network music as well, so I've been pessimistic about picking up the Dragonbox and/or watching Kai. But the music on Kai is really good so far. I know that I'm going to miss some of Falcouner's themes like SSJ Vegeta when the time comes around, but honestly I've been pleasantly surprised with the music so far and it hasn't taken away from my enjoyment of the episodes at all. With all the filler cut out, Kai is so much easier to watch anyway, that it's totally worth it.

So from someone in the same boat as you, Kai is definitely worth it.
