One thing I didn't like about the Cell fight and I hope Kai cuts is Gohan acting all cocky and whatever. Just felt out of character.

True. I guess I just remember all the times Gohan was all normal and happy while training as a SSJ - but I guess that was just their training to getting accustomed to SSJ.Kintaro said:Not quite true. Remember, there was a flashback during his training with Goku. Goku wanted to quit but Gohan put on a smirk that scared Goku a bit before Gohan passed out. Other than that, there wasn't much in the way of seeing Gohan when he first turned SSJ. He was raging out when he turned though. To the point where Goku had to talk him out of the form.

*Some say he wanted to end it after Frieza but I don't buy that.

Seda said:Random/ignorant questions here:
Is DBZ Kai available/going to be available in English? Or should I just stick with the recently released DBZ DVD sets?
If the answer to that question is yes, is it a new English dub? or is it just the same Funimation Dub as before?
I prefer the English voices and BGM, simply because it's what I first saw when I watched through the entire series, although the Kai BGM sounds great.
I guess my general question is, what is the best English DBZ version to own/watch? I was thinking of picking up these DVD sets someday.

Seda said:EDIT: Hmm, after seeing some clips on Youtube, I think I'll pass on Kai simply because of the BGM, its not bad or anything, but it's just so different from what I remember, I want to relive my childhood I suppose :/.
So my final question is: with the English DVD DBZ box-sets (like this), can I watch with the English (FUNimation) Dub AND English (FUNimation) BGM? (Bruce Faulconer)
Example Music
Seems like, according to Wikipedia, the DVD sets (not the Dragon Boxes, because they also use Japanese BGM) are what I would want. Am I correct with this?

X-Frame said:Anyone know where I can get the original Ocean dub that replayed over and over on CN before FUNimation took over?
I know that Ocean continued with Z after the original 53-54 episodes but all I really want are the originals - though it would be interesting to watch the Ocean dub until the end of Z.
Hearing Brian Drummond play Vegeta as a SSJ is just awesome and weird at the same time.
Takao said:To get that Ocean dub you're going to have to find the DVD releases by Pioneer. They're long since out of print, but are very common on sites like eBay. They're the edited version with the Shuki Levy music, and such. They released the 53 episode order that the US saw on broadcast, as well as the first three movies (which have arguably the best English dubs this franchise has seen). The movies are Uncut and bi-lingual.
There is no legal way to get the alternate dub of Z past that point. Other than the above releases, the rest of Ocean DragonBall Z that was aired in Canada, and international markets was never released on home video. There is also no home release for the alternate dubs of Dragon Ball and GT done in Calgary by Blue Water.

Funi owns the home video rights. The Ocean dub was only made as a workaround of Canadian broadcast rules (a certain percentage of content broadcast on Canadian networks must be Canadian).X-Frame said:Wow, thank you. I am going to have to check eBay for the first 53 original episodes - but how come the Ocean Dub 54+ never went on video? Didn't have the rights to print?
I'm inclined to agree with him. The first three movies had fantastic dubs.Blader5489 said:Is this a joke?

That's the difference between DBZ and Dragonball. In Dragon Ball we've seen the progression of Goku through his feats and training, while Gohan all he needs is to get angry.
Takao said:Weird thing is, there's a rumor that Ocean may be working on their own dub of Kai. They're credited with video editing in the broadcast version of Kai in the US, and according to Funimation's voice actor for Goku, they're in the process of recording their own dub with a different score. Is it true? I don't know. Why? I also don't know.
Takao said:No? Many in the fandom love those dubs for actors who (they believe) can act, a script that accurately protrays the Japanese script without sounding awkward, and retaining the Japanese score. Until Kai, most would argue those were the best dubbed pieces of animation this franchise has seen. This is a pretty fickle fanbase.

K' Dash said:I've seen DB and DBZ like 4 times each, is it worth the time to watch Kai, do they add anything new?
Takao said:If you've put up with Z's pacing four times then Kai doesn't offers much to you. However, the show has new music, new voice acting, and international versions should have more accurate scripts (hopefully we'll never get Goku calling Frieza Miss Portugal '94 ever again). But, you seem to be from a Spanish speaking nation, and I have no clue as to how accurate or not their original version were (it doesn't help that there's like half a dozen different Spanish dubs in different dialects).
These are the "orange boxes" right?VGChampion said:I think my only way to get what I want is to go back and buy all those individual DVD sets they first released back when they were still doing VHS. I have a bunch of old VHS tapes in my closet with the show just the way I like it minus the picture quality. :lol

Mikey Jr. said:So freeze subs is dissolving in September. Thats where I got the episodes from. Anyone got any good sites that they use for Kai?
That was never said in the Ocean/Pioneer dub movies, which is what he was referring to.Blader5489 said:Did "I'm gonna send you to the next dimension" come from the Japanese script? =P
Crakatak187 said:Instead of DBZ being reanimated. I think it would be better to have the Original Dragonball to be reanimated. The truth is Dragonball has much better fights then DBZ.
yep.X-Frame said:They're certainly milking DBZ now.
The next steps seem likely for a complete remake of the series with new tech.
I say 2-3 years and we'll start to hear things about a remake. Either that or a reboot with Goku & Vegeta Jr.
