Wait, what ... BLUE Popo?

I thin I'm going to have to wait for the blu-ray releases.

It just looks like balls on nicktoons in SD on my TV.

I'll check and see if CW is SD or HD...

Edit: Ugh, SD too.

Amazon.com is listing a double pack of Kai sets One and Two as "DragonBall Z Kai: The Saiyan Saga" with it being on DVD, and Blu-Ray. Those who haven't got into Kai yet, but are interested, might want to bite on that this holiday season.

and then there's the suckers who've bought set 1... >_>

Just a heads up, that super marathon of Kai is still going on on Nicktoons. Not having that channel (more like that channel not being available in Canada), I can't tell you exactly what they're airing at the moment.

CW4KIDS Kai has most of its redubbed lines done by Sean Schemmel.

I say we should refer to this version as Big Blue.

I'm watching Kai from the beginning now and forgot just how much I love the Saiyan Saga. The best saga IMO.

So awesome, there is something about that battle between Goku and Vegeta that is freaking epic.

Convince me to buy the Dragon Box sets. I believe there's 4 of them out now?

Do you appreciate proper video remastering and the Japanese version of DBZ?

If the answer is "yes", then the Dragon Box should be in your hands. No questions asked.

Finally getting new episodes agian and hot damn Freeza's new 2nd form voice kicks ass.

Dub is so much better than it was

Edit: I prefer the orange brick releases simply for nostalgia because it has the broadcast music I remember when I watched this growing up. I know that the Japanese music is original, but it just feels off when I watch it. I know I'm in the minority though. I'm not really a DBZ purist or anything like that.

I have some of the orange box season sets and will probably start getting Kai when the airing finishes.

The remastering of the original film negatives by Toei is in a word pristine. You'll never be able to buy DBZ looking or sounding better than this, and not for much longer either. Funi recently confirmed that the Dragon Boxes will be a limited release, and once they sell out they're gone. Box 2 going out of stock at several retailers including Rightstuf first alerted the DB community, but has since been restocked with a limited print run.

Crap. I had better get on those then while Amazon still has them!

Oh man I caught some of the CW kai today as my kid was watching it and saw the blue popo, I was like WTF!!! They turned the halo into a little ball too at least from what I saw, worst version hands down.

You say worst, I say best.

Going to order those sets soon... but why do I have some terrible feeling that Funi will release another set somewhere down the line... I already got burned by buying seasons 1-3 in the orange bricks a while ago :/

There's always a possibility that they could, though I kind of doubt it. The orange bricks are outselling the Dragon Boxes due to their bargain bin pricing, and will stay in print for the foreseeable future. Funi's next DBZ cash cow will be Kai, and you can expect multiple releases of it over the next decade.

There's not really much that can be done. The Dragon Boxes are frame by frame restorations done by hand by Toei. The only thing that can be done is a Blu-Ray release, but no one knows if the DBox masters are in HD.

The only thing I can see FUNi doing is a really dodgy upscale, or some cheapo sets that use the footage, but drop all the fancy packaging.

With Kai around a Blu-Ray release of Z kind of seems unlikely.

Damn I need to catch up on this. DBZ was my favorite show as a little kid. I loved the Final Atonement episode, Vegeta was so beast.

I have the orange digitally remastered Season 1-7 boxes and every now and then when watching them I get annoyed by the widescreen technique they used that cuts off the top and bottom. Is there a good box set around that has the show in 4:3 and includes the English soundtrack. The Dragon Boxes were looking good, but then I saw that they use the Japanese soundtrack.

Halp.

No there is no full 4:3 DBZ set with English (Bruce Falcouner) soundtrack.

Orange Bricks are the best if you want the broadcast music, even if the widescreen crops a bit.

You want the original single releases then. Though keep in mind they zoomed in on the image to crop out film damage, so you'll still be losing picture. But they're 4:3, and use Falcouner's awful score.

Completely agree. The English music is where my childhood is at. The Japanese audio sounds like garbage.

True Story: Monster Rancher's score has been recylced no less than two times. Once in the alternate dub for DragonBall Z, and again for the Deltora Quest dub. Ocean's getting mileage out of that.

:lol

I might just stick with the orange bricks then.

Seasos 6 & 7 only just arrived last week, lots to watch!

Pretty much this.

Krillin's a dick, but his
deaths
accounts for
two of the
most iconic moments in the franchise for me.

I like the Japanese soundtrack but since I grew up with the English version, that's what I want when I watch the show. Really wish they included it in the Dragon Box as there just aren't any perfect sets for us. I'll probably end up picking the Dragon Box sets from Trunks Saga and above as I'm so tired of the Saiyan and Freeza arc's by now. :lol

Everyone knows that Tien > Krillin.

I think Tien might even train harder than Vegeta, TBH. Dude's hardcore. Gets no love except from Chiaotzu and Launch, though ;(

I like Krillin. You haters.

By the way, today, Nicktoons Network finally aired the rest of the Frieza fight. ABOUT DAMN TIME!

The censoring is really terrible though. I hate it.

I watched a couple episodes of this. Honestly I don't like it. Fillers made dbz for me. The new music sucks. No blood. And the voice acting seems worse from what I remember, has that changed?

I feel the opposite. I like it because it gets to the point and it's fast. It was boring having to wait weeks for a new episode where it was just 20 minutes of pure reaction shots. It was boring. At least with this one, it gets to the action right away and doesn't waste showing anything useless. I like the new music as well, though I'm sure it's just using the Japanese soundtrack over the US one. Still, I was never fan of the horrible Japanese voices so this music is new to me, and it surprisingly fits it very well. As for the voice acting, I still hate Gohan's new music and Frieza's original voice was so much better. Regarding the censorship, I'm not really surprises since it's airing on Nicktoons Network. I'm positive the DVD releases aren't censored...right?

I think the fillers were apart of the magic of dbz. You waited weeks for something to happen. Yeah it was annoying, But we kept watching!

I know I did. I couldnt wait to get home from school. :lol

I'd like the music if it were "Hey cha la" or the old dbz dub theme. But it's not.

Frieza is the one villain whose dub voice is always inferior to the original japanese voice. Which is a shame, because he's by far the most iconic villain in the entire DB saga, and by extension, one of the most iconic in manga/anime. He's supposed to sound like an evil nobleman, not Rita Repulsa, which is how he sounded in Z. and even in Kai, it felt like funi was trying to meet halfway between Rita Repulsa and evil nobleman. Just awful, especially when you compare it to the other main villains.
