So I've been trying to catch up and watched the first 2 arcs because last time I saw the dbz anime was back when the Frieza movie was in theaters. I don't know why but none of the fights so far feel like they have any impact? Like the punches are just kinda hollow. Which is really amped up when they cut back to flashbacks to Z. Really hope this improves.

The REAL Dragon Ball Super starts with the Champa arc, The GOOD Dragon Ball Super starts with the current arc we're on now, the style of the show has jumped up so much this arc outside of one or two episodes.

Basically how things are now and it stays that's way throughout the series. On the bright side the fight choreography significantly improves so there's that

That link *is* the new chapter lol

Thanks! Everyone, we should support this Yamcha spinoff manga. Look at how interesting it is seeing things play out differently. I think by showing enthusiasm for things like this manga and Super's amazing Universe 7 team (bringing back 17, beefing up Roshi, Krillin, Tien, having a female fighter through 18) we can keep DB staying away from being just the Super Saiyan/Goku and Vegeta show :)

Edit: I'd love to rock a Yamcha avatar but Hunter X Hunter is my favorite manga and Ging is such a perfect representation of HXH. As much as I root for Yamcha, I don't think I can switch my avatar to him. Any others willing?

If what you got out of the discussion is that people are "defending and justifying" Roshi's behavior then your reading comprehension is questionable.

You're the one who put controversy in quotation marks and tried to whitewash what happened by asking that people not call it sexual assault despite the overt rapey imagery and Yurin screaming for him to get his hands off of her. You dismissing posters' concerns telling them to not be offended "because Japan", some of whom might have suffered sexual abuse or have a loved one who has or simply those who have the moral decency to be repulsed regardless is gross as hell.

Wow, what happened in this thread.

Anyway, one possibility that occurred to me for episode 92.
Maybe with one of the teammates, Goku doesn't trust them to fight at their fullest without breaking,
so he tests them while everyone else is trying to figure out where they are.

Or Maybe Goku went to train in the ROSAT or something in the 6 hours he'll have after this, and doesn't show up until the last second, and people are getting worried.

Wow, what happened in this thread.

Don't worry. New Yamcha chapter will save us from yesterday's disappointing episode. Tien should have shined better, the Roshi stuff was tone-deaf to DB's universal appeal. New female character, expanding on Tien's back story, and the setting of Tien's dojo was all fantastic though

Edit: Yamcha is going through what Raiden went through with the change in fan perspective of him from the jump from MGS2 to MGS4.

Well, let's see... your points seem to be that (paraphrased) "it's not as bad as you say it is", "Japan needs to deal with the issue internally", and "I don't think it was all that offensive and you shouldn't get all up in arms over it".

To which I say: No, I obviously disagree; I don't live in Japan and this is a thread specifically about Dragon Ball Super so I will criticize all elements from my perspective and my perspective alone; I am thoroughly disappointed by absolutely everyone who tries to downplay this kind of depiction and refuse to not get up in arms over it.

Also, it should be noted that Dragon Ball Super is an international franchise at this point, and so everything is fair game. Whether or not our words will ever reach this is an open question, but I don't think they can completely ignore us if there's a big enough reaction.

Your post at the top of the page is literally you trying to normalize what happened. You basically said the sexual assault is okay because he paid for it by getting kicked in the nuts and talisman possessed.......wow..
Thanks for proving my point...

Well, let's see... your points seem to be that (paraphrased) "it's not as bad as you say it is"
I was saying A) the actual content was tame compared to DB and other anime and B) if people are going to be upset about something they should do themselves a favor and use the right label. As someone who has actually been a victim of sexual assault I'd prefer it if people didn't label something with zero touching as assault.
"Japan needs to deal with the issue internally",
I don't know where the hell you got that from, I said that it's part of a larger issue in Japan that needs to be addressed, nowhere did I say that Japan has to deal with the issue internally.

"I don't think it was all that offensive and you shouldn't get all up in arms over it".
Because it really wasn't that bad, they didn't show "parts" of Yurin for the viewer's "enjoyment" and Roshi's actions were not painted in a positive light. But I also said that it was not done well and that it's a dumb and shitty trope. As for me saying I don't think people should get up in arms about it, I immediately followed that up by saying that it is part of a larger issue in Japan that DOES need addressed. I don't think people should get their feathers all ruffled by this scene in particular because as far as gross sexual shit in Japanese media this barely even registers, but as I said it IS still part of a large issue with Japan.

I'm guessing you decided to just ignore this sentence then.
The show being Japanese doesn't excuse it, but it does provide context as to why something is the way it is and I think that's something people should understand.
It's an issue ingrained in many Japanese people, but just as I said above that doesn't excuse, but it is also important for people to understand the context of WHY. It's all part of a larger issue in Japan that is not just restricted to their media, but how they view sex and sexual activities culturally, and like I said, it is an issue that needs to be addressed. Nobody is telling you you can't voice your criticism, I myself didn't like it and think the episode would have been better without it, but this particular thing is not really worth getting majorly upset about. The discussion about and how it is part of a larger issue is fine, but we also don't need to exaggerate what actually happened in this episode.

Your post at the top of the page is literally you trying to normalize what happened. You basically said the sexual assault is okay because he paid for it by getting kicked in the nuts and talisman possessed.......wow..
And this is just... ugh. Talk about completely ignoring what was said and putting words in my mouth.

I put controversy in quotes because it's just a few people that are really upset about it.
Sexual assault is forced touching, Roshi only touched her when picking her up and didn't grope her then, what Roshi was doing was sexual harassment, I also didn't say harassment is okay, I was asking people to use the right label.
The rest of your post is just more ignoring what I said and pretending I said something else to fit your narrative of me being an opposing force.
Also hi, I was molested at the age of 4, tell me more about how I have no moral decency when it comes to sexual assault.
Apparently people would rather just be upset than have an actual discussion, otherwise why would there be THREE people here trying to completely change the meaning of a post of mine because it doesn't fit perfectly with their argument.

ArchedThunder

After reading your post, I implore you not to response to them anymore. You don't have to tell them a thing about such a thing that happened in your life. It is always easy to act 'outraged' on someone's behalf, when the person you're arguing for isn't even insulted.

And your post also proves that people online really should be quiet when they attack someone for 'not understanding sexual assault'.

Characters being sexualized in anime has been one thing that's kept me away from watching certain anime, but this just seemed tame to some things that were in DB,, which has some which could be considered sexual harassment. If this has never been a factor in Roshi's character, this would bother me on a deep personal level, or if they handled this badly, which I don't think they did.

Roshi in DB has Goku take women away to bring them to him to live with him. Bulma's age when Roshi has her flash for the Dragon Ball/ Nimbus bothers me. Spying on Bulma. Some of these the characters never become aware of, and they bother me much more. I skip a lot of the Roshi stuff when rewatching Dragon Ball, and if I rewatch Super, I'll probably do the same here.

The character knew she was being sexually harassed. She is smarter in handling it than other characters in DB. She can defend herself. And she gets a hit in on Roshi for it.Not handling it well to me would have been if she ran away because of what Roshi did and there was no resolve, and it zooms in on Roshi laughing, or used her sexual appeal to take advantage of Roshi.

The one thing that did really bother me, because you're making these characters beyond stupid, and beyond fucked up individuals are Tien and Goku, who normalize this shit, and let's Roshi do whatever he wants, encouraging sexual harassment. It is handled really bad in that sense, and DB never had characters like Goku aware of what master Roshi was doing, so in that sense it really bothers me. Goku looking into the room seeing Roshi chase her, is my most hated scene in the history of DB, DBZ, Super, and GT, and Goku has never been displayed as that much of an incompetent individual.

It would have been better if they didn't have this Master Roshi bullshit in it at all, but it's hard to get mad when I've seen worse from Master Roshi. One thing I think was bad about this, is this is when we're suppose to take Roshi seriously with the ToP, and now we can't because of this episode.
Roshi picking her up and forcing her into a room also bothered me a little.

If that bothers you so much, why wasn't the scene where Goku gave Bulma up for Old Kai not upset you more? It gave up his childhood friend's body to power Gohan up and did it again in front of Vegeta. Before then, he tried to used Videl, who is 16 in the manga.

Not being smart, I am just wondering since what Goku did was in-character for him and personally see the above worst in this aspect.

One part is nostalgia, then you have DBS being super colorful which is huge contrast compared to Z. The tone of the show resembles DB in it's fun nature and the seriousness have been toned down greatly.. so if you grew up being exposed to Z first it's super jarring. It's like the universe it's gonna be erased but you don't feel the despair cause deep down ain't shit gonna happen.

But the show is super good tho.

Rewatched it just now, watched the dub so I don't know if they changed it, but was it a kiss in the manga/ Japan version, or was it more? I just kind of assumed Goku was never going to act on it, which he never did as far as we know. It'd be a different story if they brought Bulma to the Kai world and didn't tell her why. Videl's a little more messed up, I honestly forgot Goku offered Videl.

Vegeta should have got Goku's comment about Bulma being more attractive than Chichi on recording. Goku would never mess with Vegeta again.

He offered Videl in front of Gohan.
Maybe this is why he wants to beat Goku next episode. Also maybe that was why he was nervous to tell Goku about the baby.

I thought it was a pretty bad episode in many ways. First is the obvious with Roshi, they went way too far with it. It wasn't even funny and it wasn't fun to watch. There's a way to do perverted characters, and the things Roshi did in this episode was absolutely not the way to do it. I think most of the criticism is justified.

Other than that, the episode did nothing with Tien and basically did nothing to demonstrate why Goku would want them on the team. Every other character's episode gave us some indication of how they have grown or changed since Z and it would have been nice to see some of that with Tien and Roshi. Not to mention the villain's motivations were so thin to the point that I'm not even sure what her problem with Tien was.

It was to touch her boobs in the original. When Vegeta called him out on this and told him to used his own wife, he claimed she had no bounce left.

This is why Gohan is the better hero.

Need to really watch DBZ in Japanese, didn't know the Dub was so butchered at times, in the dub I think they just pass it up as him wanting a kiss.
I need to reflect on that, since up until now I saw that in a different context, which can still be taken badly, but no where near as badly.

Off topic, but I feel like Super's dub has been handling that better.

Can we talk about power levels or is GT canon pls

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Power levels my friend are a bunch of nonsense, it's a plot device. There will always be someone stronger and new transformations and crazy power ups. People that try to reason power levels with a measurement scale are wasting time.. come at me bros.

GT was a mistake and nothing but trash. However, the opening is pretty good and certain character designs are pretty good!

Better idea.
Kale didn't have earrings in the episode, but she has them in the opening and it the one character design for her that has been released. Let the crazy theories about her earrings begin.

The way she was drawn in general this episode was pretty sloppy tbh.

Clearly fits with GT canon, because Roshi is going to get arrested after Yurin calls the cops/ Krillin, so he cleans up his act and acts like a different character to avoid being caught/ Krillin agrees not to arrest him if he cleans up his act.

Better idea.

Need to see if it'll be the same in the next episode we see her, Might just be an inconsistency, didn't they don't want to fully spell out she's Fembrola.

Maybe they didn't find out the words that triggered her to make her go Fembrola.

can the tournament finally fucking start now or are we gonna get another 10 filler episodes of them training. just throw them in the time chamber, flash forward, and start the tournament. jeez

also when did Vegeta agree to enter the tournament again?

Let's about this instead.

I read DB Heroes has a mission supposed to adapt Super's content where Goku goes in hell to recruit another team member.

Was that bullshit ?

When Bra was born.

The tournament starts in a month, not before.

So, Caulifla and the seemingly shy saiyan from the title song are two different people, eh? That's interesting, I did think their characters were the complete opposite last week when some were saying they were the same, but it could have been her faking someone out. Now that we know they're different, cool, two female saiyans in one go.

So, when people were saying Goku doesn't have a mental handicap, at this point is it that or is he complicit at the very least in sexual harassment? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Excuse me, but the moosetache is the best part of that design.

Bra had to check him on it lol

Poor Yamcha, he's probably still waiting for Goku to show up.

Lol, you know I'm watching the DBZ sub cell saga and it's funny how Goku sabotaged yamcha indirectly when he brought up "have a healthy baby" the man panicked and vegeta went in for the kill even tho you could see Vegeta developing feelings for Bulma since she was always caring for him. Trunks should be grateful.

Eh, had much higher hopes for Tien/Roshi.

Just one time...one time can't they go all in for an episode played entirely straight on drawing deep from the show's mythos and world building in terms of happenings/techniques/etc that have largely vanished since the DB and Z days? You'd think with everything being on the line there'd be more impetus to appeal the best and most esoteric bits they've got to stand up against all the other worlds at play.

There's so much potential on this front, and both Hunter X Hunter and One Piece have employed this on occasions in their modern animated jaunts---so it just feels like a waste for Dragonball to not redouble on the finer details given the classic (mismash) of a setting it has going for it. Go fuller Wuxia, come on~

Everyones talking about Kale but i'm more interested Caulifla, considering shes supposed to have a lot of potential she could end being like a female Gohan.

That mission was revealed like a week before the recent rumor, I think the rumor is just piggy backing off of that.
You fight movie villains in that mission.

1. Not filler.
2. Vegeta technically never agreed, since he said they had to clear it up with Bulma, which they never did, they just made her give birth, which was never the agreement for him joining.

Everyones talking about Kale but i'm more interested Caulifla, considering shes supposed to have a lot of potential she could end being like a female Gohan.
I'm more interested in her since she'll be our first SSJ. Kale doesn't count as a SSJ.

Last technique Goku learned was instant transmission lol I do think the battle royale format makes the return for strategies like the old DB tournaments.. it's the only way to make weak characters relevant again. But I do agree the cast should learn some techniques say what you will about bleach but they would train and come up with some dope stuff. DB for awhile has become screaming and beam struggle fights.

Hot Take on Roshi situation (though I think some of these points have already been made):

1) Most of the Western Dragon Ball fandom has little exposure to DB. Hell most of these perverted Roshi scenes people are talking about right now are ones I've never seen. "They did it in Dragon Ball" isn't a helpful defense.

2) It's 2017, not the late 80's. Some things don't/shouldn't fly anymore (or I would say more accurately they shouldn't get passes from criticism anymore)

3) The sort of people who would watch Super through simlucast are those who watched Dragon Ball in their childhood/adolescence but are now all in their 20s & 30s. I feel this sort of humor gets less funny and relateable the older you get. Especially after you've like spoken to a woman before or actually had sex.

4) "Other anime do it too!" Ok? Don't most people also lambast those same shows?

5) Yeah, Goku and TIen just going "whatever" about the whole situation does make things worse.

6) It wasn't actually funny or clever. You can do offensive humor if you nail the execution/landing (see some shock comics). This......was lazy.

Anyway hopefully the next episode is better in every regard :)

By that logic, they would have made Goten useful by now.

And yet another person who haven't watched Dragon Ball.

At this point, crying about sexual assault in a cartoon it just funny. I expect no less from Neogaf. And moral disgusting huh, oh please tell us more.

Well if this isn't a demeaning or unempathetic take. If you think a particular person has made a specific error in their judgement or their argument you are free to speak with that person. If your take is "stop criticizing things you think are bad/dumb" that is an awful take. You know people can just not like a thing and not be triggered right?

also when did Vegeta agree to enter the tournament again?

It'll probably start in June if leaks are anything to go by. And these episodes haven't been filler aside from 87/89 really. They've done well to add some solid character development for Gohan, Krillin and 17.

It improves, but it doesn't ever match the intensity in Z.

I like her more too. I like her whole leader of a gang of dirtbags vibe, she's like the Asha Greyjoy of Saiyans
