Vegeta is boring in Super and I'm glad he's taken a backseat the last several months.

I like him more now :( Sure, they haven't given him all the extra flair (besides SSB, which is kind of meh now that they use it for everything and without the RoF outfits), but I'm glad to see he continues to grow as a character and a family man. Who'd have thought the Saiyan Prince would learn to put diapers on her baby girl?

vegeta is still great

feel the character might get stagnant soon tho, so maybe an arc where he moves to salad, or, hopefully, conquers salad would be great

Yeah, I love how he was visibly proud in how well he could change diapers. He went from evil dude who killed innocents to fighting for others, last arc he was fighting for Trunks, not himself and that was big I think.
I'm very interested to see how tensions might rise between Vegeta and Goku in this arc after Vegeta learns what's going on.
Interested in seeing his reaction to Freeza too.

I feel strongly Vegeta won't give much of a fuck

have to wonder if Freeza will reveal that Beerus was the one who ordered to get planet Vegeta destroyed

then again, it is possible that plot thread has been forgotten already

I think Vegeta needs to open up his own branch of Saiyan transformations. Like how Trunks had that unique one. Vegeta needs to be coming up with his own, not always following Goku's power-up line

I don't enjoy comic relief dad Vegeta.

I mean, I'm happy for the guy, he grow up to be a respectable man, he's just not as fun to watch anymore.

so we hate character development now

I like Vegeta's character, now. But he was such a load after Namek that he was better off dead. I am glad he was put through the ringer before being redeem in the Buu Saga. And I like to think he'd jobber/ no respect status is karma.

If anything, Gohan is the boring one in Super especially since they keep recycling his plot points.

Gohan in Super is just weird to me. He was excited to be in the first tournament, but for some reason when Goku brings up this one to him, he's hesitant. What? I also feel like Gohan should have achieved Mystic form again a while ago, not just within these last 24 hours. He was shown with the bang in that episode when Trunks left, which should have indicated Mystic form, right? But the past episode acted like he was just regaining it for the first time in a long time. I also don't like how he became a mini Goku during the exhibition matches. I wish he would have been more concerned about Goku's actions and how people see him as evil.

Shower thought, but shouldn't in the Japanese dub they shouldn't they say

Sūpā Saiya-jin Aoi

Rather than

Sūpā Saiya-jin Blue?

Cause Aoi is Blue in Japanese. If google is telling me correctly.

Likely because Toei were the ones adding these developments without any clear direction from Toriyama. Now Toriyama has written him back into the story on presumably his terms.

If we're just comparing Super and Z, IMO:

Saiyan arc>Frieza arc> Cell arc>Future Trunks arc>Buu arc>U6 arc>BoG arc>Ressurection F arc

Haven't watched DB and GT in years but the Piccolo arc probably lands somewhere around the Frieza arc and Baby arc probably sits somewhere around Future Trunks/Buu.

Character development man, still one of my favorite moments in Super, it shows Vegeta has come a long way.

Super Saiyan Bargain Sale :P I wonder what he could come up with, but yeah it'd be interesting to see him use his God ki to go beyond with another form, while Goku improves SSB Kaioken.

Yeah he needs his own technique or something. He's just a gimped Goku.

Exactly! Like imagine if Goku had SS Blue, Black had SS Rose, and Vegeta had SS Red. Something besides being second to having what Goku has

When SSJ was just SSJ, yeah it was neat seeing the three saiyans achieve it. But all of them following the same line of transformations is kind of played out now, IMO

*sees people not viewing Vegeta as the best character in Super*

And if we wanna talk about boring characters that are almost completely divorced from the rest of the show.

Goten and Trunks have no interesting characterization in Super. They're just cute kids that show up for wacky hijinks during the goofier episodes, and promptly disappear the second anything serious happens.

Japan loves their English words. You'll find lots of English words in their daily dialogue, like damage (Dameeji) or timing (Taimingu).

I remember when I spoke with Harada (Tekken's producer) a couple of months ago when he was in Peru for an event, I was able to understand him no problem and I used English words whenever I forgot its counterpart in Japanese :P It was fine. One of my lines was "Peruu no pureiyaa (player) tachi no leberu (level) ni suite, dou omoimasuka?", which means something like "What do you think about the Peruvian players' level?"

Hey now, the kids are training. They're giving them the Gohan treatment, in an arc or two they'll be back in action and kick some ass!

I didn't mind Vegeta in the Cell or even Buu Saga, when although keeping up with Goku for longer than other rivals, it was still obvious he was getting left behind, but I was never fan of BoGs making him the number 2 again and especially RoF pushing him to match Goku.

It's funnier considering Trunks is supposed to be as old Future Trunks was when he was training with future Gohan.

I think this beat it.

I mean, I liked this moment in retrospect, but when I first watched this episode I made preparations: Bought beer, pop corn, went to watch it at the place of the girl I was going out with at the time and my hype was MAXIMUMEST for Vegito.
Then Vegito dissolved in the same episode and Trunks pulled a Genki Dama sword from his ass... my hype was deflated so I couldn't enjoy whatever came after Vegito went kaput.
Had they kept Vegito going for half of the next episode to weaken Zamasu down considerably and letting Trunks finish the job gracefully, I might have had zero issues with how the whole thing played out in the end.

I think Trunks' first Ikari transformation is a pretty great moment.

Ikari Trunks was hype, I was willing to overlook him pulling that shit out of his ass, heck I even overlooked learning Mafuuba in a few minutes, but Genki Dama sword was just too much. The arc overdid the weird shit with Trunks, which ultimately soured my enjoyment of it.

I kinda understand this but for me this is so much better than having Trunks do nothing like in the manga.

Yeah, it was well earned. One of my favorite moments of Super. Trunks deserved that.
Cant believe some people still have a hard time accepting character power increases on experiencing near death on at least a dozen times by Black/Zamasu in a short amount of time.

But at the same time, Vegeta manually training to god levels while Goku needing the 5 saiyan initially is glanced over as natural.

On the one hand, it makes sense that they try to sideline them given how young they are and that they could potentially be a hinderance.

On the other, not only are they about as old or older than Gohan was on Namek, these little punks took on Majin Buu. It'd be nice to see them get a little shine.

Sadly I believe neither the anime nor the manga could find the right balance for Trunks in the arc. The anime overdid it, the manga simply made him not a part of anything, other than introducing the enemy.

A few things I think should have made the arc much more memorable:
  • Super Saiyan Rage: Explain it as the first stage of obtaining God ki, a combination of wrath (the usual way to obtaining SS in the first place) and battling among beings with God ki.
  • Goku should have used the Mafuuba, not Trunks.
  • No random Genki Dama Sword, at the end, simply have Trunks defeat a weakened down Zamasu by Vegito.
  • Final Kamehameha should've been the moment when Zamasu went purple blob Zamasu, that would've shown some impact.
  • Vegito weakens down Zamasu, realizing his job is done and it is Trunk's turn to finish the whole thing. Vegito takes a backseat and simply watches as Zamasu goes nuts and starts yelling shit at Trunks, then the sword moment (sans Genki Dama) happens.
  • Whis explains the SS Rage shit and tells Trunks to keep training in order to reach greater heights, like SSB.
I don't know and I don't expect everyone to agree, but those things would've made me enjoy the arc a lot more I think.

At the current point in Super...they're already a few years older than Cell saga Gohan...
Pan was 4 at the end of Z after all, currently she should be close to 1 year old.

Yep.

I hope the Latin American dub pulls the right strings here, the hate boner "nerd" media has for this show here is pathetic.

Also the narrative that GT was the original Toriyama ending and that Super is a cashgrab is awfully widespread.

Man they've been teasing us for a while and we have yet to get confirmation on when the fuck they'll start airing the show. It sucks that we'll have to wait so long before it gets to the good stuff.
